Abstract

Pre-connected analyte sensors are provided. A pre-connected analyte sensor includes a sensor carrier attached to an analyte sensor. The sensor carrier includes a substrate configured for mechanical coupling of the sensor to testing, calibration, or wearable equipment. The sensor carrier also includes conductive contacts for electrically coupling sensor electrodes to the testing, calibration, or wearable equipment.

Claims (30)

1. An analyte monitoring device comprising:

a housing;

an analyte sensor configured to generate a signal during monitoring of an analyte, the analyte sensor comprising a distal portion having a first electrode and a second electrode and a proximal portion having a first electrical contact and a second electrical contact, wherein the first electrical contact is electrically coupled to the first electrode and the second electrical contact is electrically coupled to the second electrode;

electronics disposed in the housing and configured to process the signal generated by the analyte sensor; and

an intermediate body mechanically coupled and electrically coupled to both the proximal portion of the analyte sensor and the electronics comprising a substrate, wherein the substrate comprises:

a first conductive portion electrically coupled to the first electrical contact,

a second conductive portion electrically coupled to the second electrical contact,

a first hole extending through the first conductive portion and the substrate, and

a second hole extending through the second conductive portion and the substrate,

wherein the housing comprises a first aperture through the housing and a second aperture through the housing, and

wherein the first aperture is configured to share an axis with the first hole of the intermediate body and the second aperture is configured to share an axis with the second hole of the intermediate body;

wherein a first pathway electrically couples the electronics to the first electrical contact and a second pathway electrically couples the electronics to the second electrical contact, wherein the first pathway passes through the first aperture, and the second pathway passes through the second aperture,

wherein the first pathway electrically coupling the electronics to the first electrical contact and the second pathway electrically coupling the electronics to the second electrical contact are formed with conductive adhesive or solder.

2. The analyte monitoring device of claim 1 , wherein the first aperture is configured to receive a first electrical pin in the first pathway and the second aperture is configured to receive a second electrical pin in the second pathway.

3. The analyte monitoring device of claim 2 , wherein the first electrical pin in the first aperture electrically couples the electronics to the first conductive portion of the substrate and the second electrical pin in the second aperture electrically couples the electronics to the second conductive portion of the substrate.

4. The analyte monitoring device of claim 2 , wherein the first electrical pin in the first aperture provides a first external electrical interface through the housing and the second electrical pin in the second aperture provides a second external electrical interface through the housing, and wherein the first external electrical interface and the second external electrical interface each electrically couple to the electronics.

5. The analyte monitoring device of claim 1 , further comprising an identifier coupled to the substrate.

6. The analyte monitoring device of claim 5 , wherein the identifier, the analyte sensor, and the substrate form a laminated configuration.

7. The analyte monitoring device of claim 5 , wherein the identifier includes a QR code.

8. The analyte monitoring device of claim 5 , wherein the identifier is an optical identifier or a radio-frequency identifier.

9. The analyte monitoring device of claim 5 , wherein the identifier is configured to identify any of the analyte sensor, calibration data for the analyte sensor, and/or a history associated with the analyte sensor.

10. The analyte monitoring device of claim 1 , wherein the first conductive portion and the second conductive portion are at least partially embedded in the substrate.

11. The analyte monitoring device of claim 1 , wherein the substrate further comprises a datum structure configured to control a position and a spatial orientation of the analyte sensor relative to the substrate.
