Abstract

An illumination device (e.g., an electric candle, etc.) generally includes a shell, a housing coupled to the shell, a flame-shaped head disposed at least partially outside of the shell, and a pendulum supporting the flame-shaped head. The pendulum is pivotally coupled to the housing and configured to move the flame-shaped head relative to the housing. The illumination device also includes a first light source configured to illuminate the flame-shaped head, a second light source arranged inside the shell and configured to illuminate the shell, and a printed circuit board assembly operable to control the first light source to illuminate the flame-shaped head and the second light source to illuminate the shell.

Claims (43)

1. An electric candle, comprising:

a housing;

a flame-shaped head disposed at least partially outside of the housing;

a pendulum supporting the flame-shaped head, the pendulum pivotally coupled to the housing and configured to move the flame-shaped head relative to the housing;

a first light source arranged to illuminate the flame-shaped head;

a second light source arranged to illuminate the housing;

a printed circuit board assembly operable to control operation of the first light source and the second light source.

2. The electric candle of claim 1 , further comprising a support member coupled to the housing and the pendulum, the pendulum configured to pivot relative to the housing via the support member, to thereby move the flame-shaped head relative to the housing.

3. The electric candle of claim 2 , further comprising a driving device coupled to the pendulum and configured to move the pendulum, to thereby move the flame-shaped head relative to the housing.

4. The electric candle of claim 3 , wherein the driving device comprises an electromagnetic coil and a magnet; and

wherein the magnet is arranged at a lower end portion of the pendulum and the electromagnetic coil is arranged at a bottom portion of the housing and adjacent to the magnet.

5. The electric candle of claim 4 , further comprising a battery compartment disposed generally below the housing, the battery compartment including a battery cartridge configured to hold at least one battery for providing power to the electric candle.

6. The electric candle of claim 5 , wherein the printed circuit board assembly is electrically connected to the electrode of the battery cartridge.

7. The electric candle of claim 6 , further comprising a battery cover coupled to the battery cartridge and configured to retain the at least one battery within the battery cartridge.

8. The electric candle of claim 1 , wherein the pendulum includes a tapered end portion, and wherein the pendulum is pivotally supported by the housing via the tapered end portion.

9. The electric candle of claim 1 , further comprising a shell; and

wherein the housing is coupled to the shell.

10. The electric candle of claim 9 , wherein the shell includes a hollow interior, a closed top and an open bottom, and wherein the closed top defines a first through hole;

wherein the housing includes a hollow interior and a second through hole defined in a top of the housing, and wherein the housing is disposed at least partly within the shell so that the first through hole of the shell and the second through hole of the housing are coaxially arranged;

wherein an upper portion of the pendulum extends through the second through hole of the housing, and wherein a lower portion of the pendulum is arranged inside the hollow interior of the housing; and

wherein the flame-shaped head is further disposed at least partially outside of the shell.

11. The electric candle of claim 9 , wherein the second light source is disposed within the shell.

12. The electric candle of claim 1 , wherein the first light source is disposed within the flame-shaped head.

13. An electric candle, comprising:

a shell having a hollow interior, a top portion, and a bottom portion, and wherein the top portion defines a through hole;

a flame-shaped head disposed adjacent the through hole and arranged at least partially outside of the shell;

a first light source disposed within the flame-shaped head and configured to illuminate the flame-shaped head;

a second light source disposed within the hollow interior of the shell and configured to illuminate the shell; and

a printed circuit board assembly disposed within the hollow interior of the shell and operable to control the first light source and the second light source.

14. The electric candle of claim 13 , further comprising a battery compartment disposed within the hollow interior of the shell, the battery compartment including a battery cartridge configured to hold at least one battery for providing power to the printed circuit board assembly.

15. The electric candle of claim 13 , wherein the printed circuit board assembly is electrically connected to a electrode of the battery cartridge.

16. The electric candle of claim 15 , further comprising a battery cover coupled to the battery cartridge and configured to retain the at least one battery within the battery cartridge.

17. An electric candle, comprising:

a shell;

a housing coupled to the shell;

a flame-shaped head disposed at least partially outside of the shell;

a pendulum supporting the flame-shaped head, the pendulum pivotally coupled to the housing and configured to move the flame-shaped head relative to the housing;

a first light source configured to illuminate the flame-shaped head;

a second light source arranged inside the shell and configured to illuminate the shell;

a printed circuit board assembly operable to control the first light source to illuminate the flame-shaped head and the second light source to illuminate the shell.

18. The electric candle of claim 17 , further comprising a driving device coupled to the pendulum and configured to move the pendulum, to thereby move the flame-shaped head relative to the housing.

19. The electric candle of claim 17 , further comprising a battery compartment disposed within the shell, the battery compartment including a battery cartridge configured to hold at least one battery for providing power to the printed circuit board assembly.

20. The electric candle of claim 19 , further comprising a battery cover coupled to the battery cartridge and configured to retain the at least one battery within the battery cartridge.
