Abstract

A fluid pump assembly is provided. The pump has a pair of units magnetically coupled to each other. The first unit contains a drive motor and a magnetic assembly. The second unit contains a magnetic assembly and a blade of a propeller/impeller for imparting movement to a fluid. As the first unit is activated by the drive motor, a magnetic flux is created which in turn rotates the magnetic assembly in the second unit, driving the blade.

Claims (38)

1. A magnetically driven unit, comprising:

a housing comprising a base and a nozzle releasably connected to the base;

a rotator at least partially contained in the housing, the rotator comprising a magnet;

a shaft operatively connected to the rotator;

a blade operatively coupled with the shaft;

a magnet cover cooperating with the base to enclose the magnet of the rotator between the base and the magnet cover;

an axle concentrically surrounded by the shaft;

a magnetic shield placed on top of the magnet of the rotator;

a sleeve concentric with and surrounding the axle;

a lower bearing concentric with and surrounding the sleeve, the lower bearing interposed between the magnet and the base; and

a thrust washer interposed between the lower bearing and the base.

2. The magnetically driven unit of claim 1 , wherein the axle comprises a flanged base.

3. The magnetically driven unit of claim 2 , wherein the flanged base contacts a surface of the base.

4. The magnetically driven unit of claim 3 , wherein the sleeve is a ceramic sleeve positioned between the axle and the shaft.

5. The magnetically driven unit of claim 2 , wherein the axle comprises a metallic material.

6. The magnetically driven unit of claim 1 , wherein the nozzle comprises a plurality of ribs spaced apart from one another to create openings for allowing fluid to flow therethrough.

7. The magnetically driven unit of claim 1 , further comprising a casing connected to the shaft and surrounding the magnet of the rotator and the magnet shield.

8. The magnetically driven unit of claim 1 , wherein the lower bearing is connected to the rotator.

9. A fluid pump assembly, comprising:

the magnetically driven unit of claim 1 ; and

a drive unit comprising a drive unit magnet configured for magnetically coupling to and rotationally driving the blade of the magnetically driven unit.

10. A magnetically driven unit, comprising:

a housing comprising a base and a nozzle extending from and connected to the base;

a rotator at least partially contained in the housing, the rotator comprising a magnet;

a shaft operatively connected to the rotator;

a blade operatively coupled with the shaft;

a magnetic shield placed on top of the magnet of the rotator, the magnet of the rotator and the magnet shield disposed within a casing connected to the shaft;

an axle operably associated with the shaft, the axle concentrically surrounded by the shaft and comprising a flanged base;

a sleeve concentric with and surrounding the axle;

a lower bearing concentric with and surrounding the sleeve, the lower bearing positioned between the magnet and the base; and

a thrust washer positioned between the lower bearing and the base.

11. The magnetically driven unit of claim 10 , wherein the sleeve comprises a ceramic material and the axle comprises a metallic material.

12. The magnetically driven unit of claim 10 , wherein the shaft, the axle, and the sleeve are concentric with one another.

13. The magnetically driven unit of claim 10 , wherein the flanged base of the axle contacts a surface of the base.

14. The magnetically driven unit of claim 10 , wherein the base and the nozzle are releasably connected to one another.

15. A fluid pump assembly, comprising:

the magnetically driven unit of claim 10 ; and

a drive unit comprising a drive unit magnet configured for magnetically coupling to and rotationally driving the blade of the magnetically driven unit.
