Abstract

A video decoding method includes obtaining information indicating a first difference between a maximum size of a coding unit having a 1:4 ratio and a size of a largest coding unit, determining the maximum size of the coding unit of having the 1:4 ratio by using the size of the largest coding unit and the first difference, determining a minimum size of the coding unit having the 1:4 ratio based on a minimum size of a coding unit, determining whether a coding having the 1:4 ratio may be generated by splitting a first coding unit based on the maximum size and the minimum size of the coding unit having the 1:4 ratio, and determining a second coding unit including the coding unit having the 1:4 ratio, from the first coding unit, and decoding the second coding unit.

Claims (25)

1. A video decoding method comprising:

obtaining, from a bitstream, information about a size of a largest coding unit;

obtaining, from the bitstream, information about a difference between the size of the largest coding unit and a maximum size of a coding unit with a width and height ratio equal to 1:4;

determining the maximum size of the coding unit with the width and height ratio equal to 1:4 using the information about the size of the largest coding unit and the information about the difference;

when it is determined that a current coding unit is split into a plurality of lower coding units using the maximum size of the coding unit with the width and height ratio equal to 1:4, splitting the current coding unit into the plurality of lower coding units; and

decoding the plurality of lower coding units,

wherein the current coding unit is one among a plurality of coding units split from the largest coding unit.

2. A video decoding apparatus comprising:

a receiver configured to obtain, from a bitstream, information about a size of a largest coding unit, and obtain, from the bitstream, information about a difference between the size of the largest coding unit and a maximum size of a coding unit with a width and height ratio equal to 1:4; and

a decoder configured to determine the maximum size of the coding unit with the width and height ratio equal to 1:4 using the information about the size of the largest coding unit and the information about the difference, when it is determined that a current coding unit is split into a plurality of lower coding units using the maximum size of the coding unit with the width and height ratio equal to 1:4, split the current coding unit into the plurality of lower coding units, and decode the plurality of lower coding units,

wherein the current coding unit is one among a plurality of coding units split from the largest coding unit.

3. A video encoding method comprising:

generating information about a size of a largest coding unit;

determining a maximum size of a coding unit with a width and height ratio equal to 1:4;

generating information about a difference between the size of the largest coding unit and the maximum size of the coding unit with the width and height ratio equal to 1:4;

when it is determined that a current coding unit is split into a plurality of lower coding units using the maximum size of the coding unit with the width and height ratio equal to 1:4, splitting the current coding unit into the plurality of lower coding units; and

encoding the plurality of lower coding units,

wherein the current coding unit is one among a plurality of coding units split from the largest coding unit.

4. A method of transmitting a bitstream generated by encoding a video, the method comprising:

generating information about a size of a largest coding unit;

determining a maximum size of a coding unit with a width and height ratio equal to 1:4;

generating information about a difference between the size of the largest coding unit and the maximum size of the coding unit with the width and height ratio equal to 1:4;

when it is determined that a current coding unit is split into a plurality of lower coding units using the maximum size of the coding unit with the width and height ratio equal to 1:4, splitting the current coding unit into the plurality of lower coding units, and encoding the plurality of lower coding units; and

outputting the bitstream including the information about the size of the largest coding unit, the information about the difference between the size of the largest coding unit and the maximum size of the coding unit with the width and height ratio equal to 1:4, and encoded date of the plurality of lower coding units,

wherein the current coding unit is one among a plurality of coding units split from the largest coding unit.
