Abstract

Systems and methods for providing asynchronous consumption of streaming media are disclosed. One computer-implemented method may include: receiving, from a first user device associated with a first user, a request to share a multimedia content with a second user, the request identifying the multimedia content, a first user profile associated with the first user, and data associated with the second user; retrieving a second user profile associated with the second user based on the received request; causing to be displayed, on a second user device associated with the second user, a notification alerting the second user of the request; receiving, from the second user device, a response accepting the request; and linking the first user profile with the second user profile for the shared multimedia content to enable viewing activity of both the first user and the second user to be shared and synced with one another.

Claims (44)

1 - 20 . (canceled)

21 . A system for asynchronous consumption of streaming media, the system comprising:

at least one database; and

a server in network communication with the at least one database, the server configured to perform operations including:

linking a first user profile with a second user profile for asynchronous interaction with a shared multimedia content based on receiving, at the server, an acceptance indication from a second user device associated with the second user profile of a multimedia content sharing request generated by a first user device associated with the first user profile;

enabling, based on the linking, viewing activity of both a first user associated with the first user profile and a second user associated with the second user profile to be shared and synced with one another;

identifying, based at least on past viewing activity associated with the second user, multimedia content to recommend to the first user;

constructing, based on the identifying, a recommendation rail including the identified multimedia content, wherein the identified multimedia content comprises a plurality of multimedia content options and wherein the constructing comprises:

identifying viewing preferences associated with the first user, wherein the viewing preferences correspond to a category of multimedia content;

determining that at least one of the plurality of multimedia content options corresponds to the category; and

prioritizing the at least one of the plurality of multimedia content options to appear before other of the plurality of multimedia content options in the recommendation rail; and

transmitting instructions to the first user device to display the plurality of multimedia content options in recommendation rail based on the prioritizing.

22 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the instructions comprise instructions to display the recommendation rail on a home screen of a media streaming platform on the first user device.

23 . (canceled)

24 . The system of claim 21 , wherein the plurality of multimedia content options include a combination of shows and/or movies.

25 - 26 . (canceled)

27 . The system of claim 21 , wherein each of the plurality of multimedia content options is presented in the recommendation rail in a horizontal configuration and wherein each of the plurality of multimedia content options comprises a content preview visual.

28 . A computer-implemented method for asynchronous consumption of streaming media using a server in network communication with at least one database, the method comprising operations including:

linking a first user profile with a second user profile for asynchronous interaction with a shared multimedia content based on receiving, at the server, an acceptance indication from a second user device associated with the second user profile of a multimedia content sharing request generated by a first user device associated with the first user profile;

enabling, based on the linking, viewing activity of both a first user associated with the first user profile and a second user associated with the second user profile to be shared and synced with one another;

identifying, based at least on past viewing activity associated with the second user, multimedia content to recommend to the first user;

constructing, based on the identifying, a recommendation rail including the identified multimedia content, wherein the identified multimedia content comprises a plurality of multimedia content options and wherein the constructing comprises:

identifying viewing preferences associated with the first user, wherein the viewing preferences correspond to a category of multimedia content;

determining that at least one of the plurality of multimedia content options corresponds to the category; and

prioritizing the at least one of the plurality of multimedia content options to appear before other of the plurality of multimedia content options in the recommendation rail; and

transmitting instructions to the first user device to display the plurality of multimedia content options in recommendation rail based on the prioritizing.

29 . The method of claim 28 , The system of claim 1 , wherein the instructions comprise instructions to display the recommendation rail on a home screen of a media streaming platform on the first user device.

30 . (canceled)

31 . The method of claim 28 , wherein the plurality of multimedia content options include a combination of shows and/or movies.

32 - 33 . (canceled)

34 . The method of claim 28 , wherein each of the plurality of multimedia content options is presented in the recommendation rail in a horizontal configuration and wherein each of the plurality of multimedia content options comprises a content preview visual.

35 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing computer-executable instructions which, when executed by a server in network communication with at least one database, cause the server to perform operations comprising:

linking a first user profile with a second user profile for asynchronous interaction with a shared multimedia content based on receiving, at the server, an acceptance indication from a second user device associated with the second user profile of a multimedia content sharing request generated by a first user device associated with the first user profile;

enabling, based on the linking, viewing activity of both a first user associated with the first user profile and a second user associated with the second user profile to be shared and synced with one another;

identifying, based at least on past viewing activity associated with the second user, multimedia content to recommend to the first user;

constructing, based on the identifying, a recommendation rail including the identified multimedia content, wherein the identified multimedia content comprises a plurality of multimedia content options and wherein the constructing comprises:

identifying viewing preferences associated with the first user, wherein the viewing preferences correspond to a category of multimedia content;

determining that at least one of the plurality of multimedia content options corresponds to the category; and

prioritizing the at least one of the plurality of multimedia content options to appear before other of the plurality of multimedia content options in the recommendation rail; and

transmitting instructions to the first user device to display the plurality of multimedia content options in recommendation rail based on the prioritizing.

36 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 35 , wherein the instructions comprise instructions to display the recommendation rail on a home screen of a media streaming platform on the first user device.

37 . (canceled)

38 . The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 35 , wherein the plurality of multimedia content options include a combination of shows and/or movies.

39 - 40 . (canceled)
