Abstract

Present embodiments include but are not limited to a video camera which is able to capture and record video data of an entire machine without contacting the machine, to visually study complex motions which vary both in time and spatially at different locations on the machine, wherein filters applied to the motion present in the video recording are used to identify frequencies of importance and to visualize their impact on the operation of the machine, including by removing certain frequencies of lesser interest from the video recording.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein applying one or more filters comprises selecting at least two noncontiguous frequencies, and further comprising producing one or more new video outputs which create a visual presentation of a subset of the motion of the monitored objects such that the at least two noncontiguous frequencies are present in the one or more new video outputs.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the frequency spectrum of motion is obtained from the video recording by selecting a location from at least one of the plurality of frames of the video recording.

constructing one or more filters associated with the at least one frequency or the at least one frequency range; and

applying one or more filters to isolate, amplify, or remove apparent motion in the video recording occurring at the at least one frequency or the at least one frequency range selected, thereby producing one or more new video outputs which create a visual presentation of a subset of the motion of the monitored objects in the video recording.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the objects comprise motors, actuators, pumps, linkages, blowers, fans, pipes, ducts, gears, wings, control surfaces, rods, struts, conveyors, produced goods being mechanically moved in a production environment, and physical structures subject to dynamic changes in motion.

15. The method of claim 13 , further comprising obtaining a time waveform resulting from the change of the intensity in one or more pixel locations present in a selected region of interest in a field of view in one or more frames of the video recording from which the frequency spectrum is obtained, and wherein the step of applying one or more filters is performed on every pixel in the field of view or a portion of the field of view comprising a subset of pixel locations in the field of view, thereby removing at least one of unwanted frequencies and apparent motion from the one or more new video outputs.
