Abstract

A faux fireplace having a controller generating an imitation log crackling sound synchronized to an ember flicker of a faux log. The faux fireplace includes a video display displaying a video flame having releasing embers based on a video loop stored as a video file in memory. The controller generates the imitation log crackling sound for the displayed releasing embers as well. The type of crackling sounds and the volume of the crackling sound are different for each of the faux logs to create an authentic visual and audio experience. The ember flickers are generated by lighting associated with each of the faux logs.

Claims (24)

1. A faux fireplace, comprising:

a body having a cavity;

a display disposed proximate the cavity and configured to display a faux flame;

a faux log disposed in the cavity and configured to generate a faux ember flicker; and

a controller configured to generate a crackling sound that is synchronized with an individual said faux ember flicker.

2. The faux fireplace as specified in claim 1 , wherein the faux log comprises a light configured to generate the faux ember flicker.

3. The faux fireplace as specified in claim 1 , wherein the displayed faux flame is a video.

4. The faux fireplace as specified in claim 3 , further comprising memory including the video of the faux flame, wherein the controller is configured to control a playback speed of the faux flame.

5. The faux fireplace as specified in claim 1 , wherein the displayed faux flame includes an ember releasing from the faux flame.

6. The faux fireplace as specified in claim 5 , wherein the controller is configured to generate the crackling sound that is synchronized to the releasing ember.

7. The faux fireplace as specified in claim 1 , wherein the controller is configured to generate the crackling sound for less than all of the ember flickers.

8. The faux fireplace as specified in claim 1 , wherein the display is configured to display a flame ember releasing from the faux flame; and the controller is configured to generate an audio sound that is synchronized with the flame ember.

9. The faux fireplace as specified in claim 1 , further comprising an input, wherein the controller is responsive to the input.

10. A method of controlling a faux fireplace, comprising a body having a cavity, a display disposed proximate the cavity and configured to display a faux flame, a faux log disposed in the cavity and configured to generate a faux ember flicker, and a controller configured to generate a crackling sound that is synchronized with an individual said faux ember flicker, the method comprising:

the faux log generating the faux ember flicker; and

generating the crackling sound that is synchronized with the faux ember flicker.

11. The method as specified in claim 10 , wherein the faux log comprises a light generating the faux ember flicker emulating a glowing or flickering burning log.

12. The method as specified in claim 10 , wherein the displayed faux flame is a video.

13. The method as specified in claim 12 , further comprising memory including the video of the faux flame, wherein the controller controls a playback speed of the faux flame.

14. The method as specified in claim 12 , wherein the display displays a flame ember releasing from the faux flame, and the controller generates an audio sound that is synchronized with the flame ember.

15. The method as specified in claim 10 , wherein the displayed faux flame includes an ember releasing from the faux flame.

16. The method as specified in claim 15 , wherein the controller generates the crackling sound that is synchronized to the releasing ember.

17. The method as specified in claim 10 , wherein the controller generates the crackling sound for less than all of the ember flickers.

18. The method as specified in claim 10 , further comprising an input, wherein the controller is responsive to the input.
