5. The mask assembly of claim 2 , wherein each said headgear connector portion includes an arm and the slot is positioned at a free end of the arm, each said arm being a stiffened member that includes an upwardly curved shape, each of the stiffened members is made of a material that resists up and down movement of the stiffened members, yet allows the respective stiffened member to flexibly bend about the patient's face.

6. The mask assembly of claim 2 , wherein each said headgear connector portion includes an elongated arm extending from the shroud and the slot at a free end of the elongated arm, each said elongated arm is a stiffened member that includes an upwardly curved shape and is configured to avoid covering the patient's field of vision, each of the stiffened members is made of a material that resists up and down movement of the stiffened member, yet allows the stiffened member to flexibly contact the patient's face and to follow contours of the patient's face along the patient's cheek.

7. The mask assembly of claim 2 , further comprising an anti-asphyxia valve configured to allow the patient to breath from ambient when pressurized air is not supplied to the patient.

8. A mask system comprising:

a cushion module comprising:

a cushion constructed of a flexible material to form a seal with a patient's nose and mouth in use, and

a frame connected to the cushion and forming a breathing chamber, the frame constructed of a more rigid material than the cushion, and the frame including a frame opening configured to in-use allow a flow of breathable gas into the breathing chamber;

a clip-on upper headgear connector having:

a pair of arms, each of said pair of arms having a free end with a slot;

a central connecting portion formed between and in one piece with the pair of arms; and

a pair of clip structures, the central connecting portion being provided between the pair of clip structures, each said arm of the pair of arms extending laterally away from a respective clip structure and the connecting portion;
