Abstract

A system for configuring a multi-mode antenna onboard one or more of a plurality of network devices on a wireless network is provided. The system includes one or more processors configured to obtain data indicative of a channel quality indicator associated with one or more antenna modes of a plurality of antenna modes in which the multi-mode antenna onboard one or more of the network devices is configurable. Each of the plurality of antenna modes can have a distinct radiation pattern. The one or more processors can be configured to determine one or more network performance indicators for the wireless network based on the data. The one or more processors can be configured to provide one or more control signals over the wireless network based on the one or more network performance indicators. The control signal(s) can be associated with reconfiguring an antenna mode of the multi-mode antenna.

determine one or more network performance indicators for the wireless network based, at least in part, on the channel quality indicator; and

provide one or more control signals to reconfigure an antenna mode of the multi-mode antenna for the second device of the plurality of devices based, at least in part, on the one or more network performance indicators.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the network controller is configured to obtain data from the first device while the multi-mode antenna is configured in each of the plurality of antenna modes.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein to determine the one or more network performance indicators, the network controller is configured to:

provide the data from the first device as an input to a machine-learned model configured to process the data and output the one or more network performance indicators.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more network performance indicators comprise at least one of an uplink speed of one or more of the plurality of devices or a downlink speed of one or more of the plurality of devices.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more network performance indicators for the wireless network comprises at least one of an uplink speed for each of the plurality of devices or a downlink speed for each of the plurality of devices.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the data comprises at least one of a receive signal strength indicator (RSSI), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) or signal-to-interference-plus noise ratio (SINR).

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more network performance indicators comprise a signal indicative of a maintenance action needed on network equipment of the wireless network.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the one or more control signals are associated with reconfiguring the antenna mode of the multi-mode antenna from a first antenna mode in which the multi-mode antenna is in communication with the network equipment to a second antenna mode in which the multi-mode antenna is not in communication with the network equipment.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein the wireless network comprises an 802.11 network or a cellular network.

10. A method for controlling a wireless network including a plurality of devices having a multi-mode antenna configurable in a plurality of different antenna modes, the method comprising:

obtaining, by a network controller of the wireless network, data from a first device of the plurality of devices on the wireless network while the multi-mode antenna of the first device is configured in one or more of the plurality of different antenna modes, the data comprising a channel quality indicator associated with communicating with the first device;

determining, by the network controller, one or more network performance indicators for the wireless network based, at least in part, on the channel quality indicator; and

providing, by the network controller, one or more control signals to reconfigure an antenna mode of the multi-mode antenna of a second device of the plurality of devices based, at least in part, on the one or more network performance indicators.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein obtaining the data from the first device includes obtaining, by the network controller the data while the multi-mode antenna of the first device is configured in each of the plurality of different antenna modes.

12. The method of claim 10 , wherein determining the one or more network performance indicators includes providing, by the network controller, the data as an input to a machine-learned model configured to process the data and output the one or more network performance indicators.

13. The method of claim 10 , wherein the one or more network performance indicators comprise at least one of an uplink speed of one or more of the plurality of devices or a downlink speed of one or more of the plurality of devices.

14. The method of claim 10 , wherein the one or more network performance indicators for the wireless network comprises at least one of an uplink speed for each of the plurality of devices or a downlink speed for each of the plurality of devices.

15. The method of claim 10 , wherein the data comprises at least one of a receive signal strength indicator (RSSI), signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) or signal-to-interference-plus noise ratio (SINR).

16. The method of claim 10 , wherein the one or more network performance indicators comprise a signal indicative of a maintenance action needed on network equipment of the wireless network.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the one or more control signals are associated with reconfiguring the antenna mode of the multi-mode antenna from a first antenna mode in which the multi-mode antenna is in communication with the network equipment to a second antenna mode in which the multi-mode antenna is not in communication with the network equipment.
