Abstract

A method for operating an access control comprises creating a plurality of wake-up schedules for a wireless transceiver. Each of the plurality of wake-up schedules may be configured to control how frequently the wireless transceiver wakes up to transmit or receive information. Each of the plurality of wake-up schedules for the wireless transceiver may be different from another one or the plurality of wake-up schedules for the wireless transceiver. The method may further comprise automatically switching between the plurality of wake-up schedules for the wireless transceiver such that a duration of time between wake-ups for the wireless transceiver radio is shorter during some predefined times and longer during other predefined times. The duration of time between wake-ups for the wireless transceiver may be configurable by an administrative user via an interface.

Claims (44)

1. A method for operating a device having a battery, a processor, and a wireless transceiver, the method comprising:

determining a plurality of wake-up schedules for the wireless transceiver, wherein each of the plurality of wake-up schedules is configured to control how frequently the wireless transceiver wakes up to transmit or receive information, and wherein each of the plurality of wake-up schedules for the wireless transceiver is different from another one of the plurality of wake-up schedules for the wireless transceiver; and

switching between the plurality of wake-up schedules for the wireless transceiver such that a duration of time between wake-ups for the wireless transceiver is shorter during some predefined times and longer during other predefined times.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein switching between the plurality of wake-up schedules is determined by one or more settings that are configurable by a user.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the wireless transceiver comprises a radio-frequency (RF) credentialing mechanism configured to accept an access credential, and wherein the plurality of wake-up schedules for the RF credentialing mechanism controls how frequently the RF credentialing mechanism wakes up to poll for the access credential, the method further comprising:

switching between the plurality of wake-up schedules for the RF credentialing mechanism such that a duration of time between wake-ups for the RF credentialing mechanism is shorter during some predefined times and longer during other predefined times.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein one or more of:

the switching between the plurality of wake-up schedules; and

the duration of time between wake-ups for the RF credentialing mechanism is configurable by a user.

5. The method of claim 3 , wherein switching between the plurality of wake-up schedules for the RF credentialing mechanism is dynamically adjusted based on detecting a frequency of user credentialing attempts over a predefined period of time, a battery power level, or a combination thereof.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the switching between the plurality of wake-up schedules for the wireless transceiver is based on a time of day, a day of the week, a type of building environment, or any combination thereof.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the duration of time between wake-ups for each of the plurality of wake-up schedules for the wireless transceiver is dynamically adjusted based on detecting one or more inputs.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the one or more inputs includes:

a frequency of user credentialing attempts over a predefined period of time; and

a battery power level.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein the dynamic adjusting is implemented over time via an artificial intelligence algorithm.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one wake-up schedule of the plurality of wake-up schedules is configurable by a user via an interface comprising a voice-activated personal digital assistance in wireless communication with a network connected to the device.

11. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

waking the wireless transceiver immediately upon receiving an access user credential attempt.

12. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

overriding one or more of the plurality of wake-up schedules with a second wake-up schedule when a connection to a wireless network fails due to an outage of the wireless network.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the second wake-up schedule comprises a power-saving wake-up schedule that dynamically increases the duration of time between wireless transceiver wake-ups while outage of the wireless network persists.

14. The method of claim 1 , wherein the device comprises a second wireless transceiver, and wherein the wireless transceiver operates according to a first wireless communication protocol and the second wireless transceiver operates according to a second wireless communication protocol.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein at least one of the plurality of wake-up schedules for the wireless transceiver wakes the wireless transceiver more frequently than at least one of a second plurality of wake-up schedules for the second wireless transceiver wakes the second wireless transceiver.

16. The method of claim 14 , wherein the plurality of wake-up schedules for the wireless transceiver is based at least in part on the first wireless communication protocol, the method further comprising:

determining a second plurality of wake-up schedules for the second wireless transceiver based at least in part on the second wireless communication protocol.

17. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining, by an artificial intelligence algorithm, an access pattern or a communication pattern over a period of time, wherein at least one wake-up schedule of the plurality of wake-up schedules is determined based at least in part on the access pattern or the communication pattern.

18. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

determining, by an artificial intelligence algorithm, an access pattern or a communication pattern over a period of time; and

adjusting at least one wake-up schedule of the plurality of wake-up schedules based at least in part on the access pattern or the communication pattern.

19. The method of claim 1 , wherein switching between wake-up schedules comprises switching from a first wake-up schedule to a second wake-up schedule, the method further comprising:

performing a diagnostic test for connecting with a network device; and

adjusting a signal strength used by the wireless transceiver while operating according to the second wake-up schedule based at least in part on performing the diagnostic test.
