Abstract

Full-color pixel arrangements for use in devices such as OLED displays are provided, in which multiple sub-pixels are configured to emit different colors of light, with each sub-pixel having a different optical path length than some or all of the other sub-pixels within the pixel.

Claims (38)

1. A device comprising a full-color pixel arrangement, the full-color pixel arrangement comprising:

a plurality of N sub-pixels, the N sub-pixels being addressable and controllable as a single pixel within the device;

wherein the full-color pixel arrangement includes not more than two colors of emissive regions; and

wherein the full-color pixel arrangement comprises one or more selected from the following:

at least one color altering layers, each disposed in a stack with one or more of the N sub-pixels;

N−1 emissive layers, each disposed within one or more of the N sub-pixels.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the at least one color altering layers is N−1 color altering layers.

3. The device of claim 1 , wherein each sub-pixel of the plurality of N sub-pixels comprises a blue emissive region or a green emissive region.

4. The device of claim 3 , wherein one of the N sub-pixels comprising the green emissive region is configured to emit blue light.

5. The device of claim 3 , wherein one of the N sub-pixels comprising the blue emissive region is configured to emit green light.

6. The device of claim 3 , wherein one of the N sub-pixels comprising the blue emissive region is configured to emit blue light.

7. The device of claim 1 , wherein the N sub-pixels comprise a common emissive region that extends into each of the N sub-pixels.

8. The device of claim 7 , wherein the common emissive region is a light blue emissive region.

9. The device of claim 8 , wherein the common emissive region comprises a plurality of emissive materials.

10. The device of claim 9 , wherein the common emissive region comprises green and blue emissive materials.

11. The device of claim 8 , wherein the plurality of N sub-pixels comprises:

a green sub-pixel that includes a color filter and/or a down-conversion component;

a red sub-pixel that includes a color filter and/or a down-conversion component; and

a blue sub-pixel.

12. The device of claim 1 , wherein:

the N sub-pixels comprise first, second, and third sub-pixels;

the first sub-pixel comprises a blue emissive region; and

the second and/or third sub-pixels comprise a blue emissive region having a green emissive material and a deep blue emissive material.

13. The device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of N sub-pixels comprises:

a blue sub-pixel comprising a blue emissive region;

a green sub-pixel; and

a red sub-pixel comprising a color filter and/or a down-conversion component;

wherein each of the blue, green, and red sub-pixels has a different optical path length than each of the others.

14. The device of claim 13 , wherein the green sub-pixel comprises a green emissive region.

15. The device of claim 13 , wherein the green sub-pixel comprises a color filter and/or a down-conversion component.

16. The device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of N sub-pixels comprises:

a green sub-pixel comprising a color filter and/or a down-conversion component; and

a red sub-pixel comprising a color filter and/or a down-conversion component; and

a blue sub-pixel.

17. The device of claim 1 , further comprising a first emissive region comprising a green emissive material.

18. The device of claim 1 , wherein emissive elements of at least 1 sub-pixel of the plurality of N sub-pixels comprise a light-emitting diode (LED).

19. The device of claim 18 , wherein Nis equal to 3 and a first emissive layer is blue and a second emissive layer is green.

20. A device comprising a full-color pixel arrangement, the full-color pixel arrangement comprising: a plurality of N sub-pixels, the N sub-pixels being addressable and controllable as a single pixel within the device; wherein the full-color pixel arrangement includes not more than two colors of emissive regions; and wherein the full-color pixel arrangement comprises one or more selected from the following: at least one color altering layers, each disposed in a stack with one or more of the N sub-pixels; less than or equal to N- 1 emissive layers disposed within one or more of the N sub-pixels, wherein the one emissive layer is light blue.
