Abstract

A femur plate is provided, the femur plate comprising a first end portion anatomically pre-formed to conform to a trochanter region of the femur and a second end portion anatomically pre-formed to conform to a condyle region of the femur, wherein the second end portion comprises at least one first opening configured to receive a bone fastener. The femur plate further comprises an elongate shaft extending from the first end portion to the second end portion, the elongate shaft comprising at least one second opening configured to receive a bone fastener. Furthermore, a periprosthetic implant system comprising the femur plate and a method of implanting the femur plate are provided.

Claims (46)

1. A femur plate configured to project from a trochanter region to a condyle region of a femur, the femur plate comprising:

a first end portion and a second end portion, the first end portion being anatomically pre-formed to conform to a convex surface of a greater trochanter of the femur and the second end portion being anatomically pre-formed to conform to a convex surface of a lateral condyle of the femur;

at least one first opening configured to receive a bone fastener for attachment of the femur plate to the condyle region;

a plurality of second openings configured to receive a bone fastener for attachment of the femur plate to a shaft region of the femur; and

an elongated shaft portion comprising the plurality of second openings, wherein the elongated shaft portion is convexly shaped along its lateral extension to conform to the shaft region of the femur and comprises a central shaft region with a center line and multiple of the plurality of second openings, wherein:

the second openings within the central shaft region are alternately arranged on opposing sides of the center line along a longitudinal extension of the central shaft region, and

none of the second openings within the central shaft region are arranged on the center line.

2. The femur plate of claim 1 , wherein at least one second opening of the second openings within the central shaft region forms a through-hole extending substantially orthogonal from an upper plate surface to a bone facing plate surface of the femur plate.

3. The femur plate of claim 1 , wherein the multiple of the plurality of second openings within the central shaft region are arranged adjacently on one side of the center line of the central shaft region in a substantially equal first distance.

4. The femur plate of claim 1 , wherein the multiple of the plurality of second openings within the central shaft region are arranged adjacently on opposing sides of the center line of the central shaft region in a substantially equal second distance.

5. The femur plate of claim 3 , wherein centers of the second openings within the central shaft region are arranged on both sides of the center line of the central shaft region lie on a zig-zag line along a longitudinal extension of the femur plate.

6. The femur plate of claim 1 , wherein:

within a second shaft region a contour of the femur plate on opposing sides of the center line follows a curved line along a longitudinal extension of the femur plate, and

the contours on the opposing sides of the center line run approximately parallel to each other.

7. The femur plate of claim 1 , wherein the elongate shaft portion further comprises a proximal shaft region and a distal shaft region.

8. The femur plate of claim 7 , wherein at least one of the proximal shaft region and the distal shaft region comprises a guidance opening configured to receive guidance means to apply to the femur.

9. The femur plate of claim 7 , wherein

at least one of the proximal shaft region and the distal shaft region comprises at least one second opening of the plurality of second openings configured to receive a bone-fastener for at least one of mono-cortical and bi-cortical fixation.

10. The femur plate of claim 1 , further comprising

at least one third opening configured to receive a bone fastener for insertion into a femur neck.

11. The femur plate of claim 10 , wherein

at least one of:

the at least one third opening,

the at least one first opening, and

one or more second openings of the plurality of second openings

comprises a locking structure for locking a bone fastener received through that opening at a selected angle to the femur plate.

12. A periprosthetic implant system comprising:

a femur plate having a first end portion and a second end portion, the first end portion being anatomically pre-formed to conform to a convex surface of a greater trochanter of the femur and the second end portion being anatomically pre-formed to conform to a convex surface of a lateral condyle of the femur, the femur plate comprising:

at least one first opening configured to receive a bone fastener for attachment of the femur plate to a condyle region of the femur;

a plurality of second openings configured to receive a bone fastener for attachment of the femur plate to a shaft region of the femur; and

an elongated shaft portion comprising the plurality of second openings, wherein the elongated shaft portion is convexly shaped along its lateral extension to conform to the shaft region of the femur and comprises a central shaft region with a center line and multiple of the plurality of second openings, wherein:

the second openings within the central shaft region are alternately arranged on opposing sides of the center line along a longitudinal extension of the central shaft region, and

none of the second openings within the central shaft region are arranged on the center line, and

at least one of the at least one first opening and one or more of the plurality of second openings is arranged in the femur plate such that a bone fastener inserted through that opening does not touch an implant in its implanted state in a region of one of a trochanter or a condyle of a femur.

13. The periprosthetic implant system of claim 12 , wherein at least one second opening of the multiple of the plurality of second openings within the central shaft region of femur plate forms a through-hole extending substantially orthogonal from an upper plate surface to a bone facing plate surface of the femur plate.

14. The periprosthetic implant system of claim 12 , wherein the elongate shaft portion of the femur plate further comprises a proximal shaft region and a distal shaft region.

15. The periprosthetic implant system of claim 12 , wherein the femur plate further comprises at least one third opening configured to receive a bone fastener for insertion into a femur neck.

16. The periprosthetic implant system of claim 15 , wherein the at least one third opening of the femur plate is arranged in the femur plate such that a bone fastener inserted through that opening does not touch the implant in its implanted state.

17. The periprosthetic implant system of claim 12 , wherein at least one of the at least one first opening of the femur plate and one or more second openings of the plurality of second openings of the femur plate comprises a locking structure for locking a bone fastener received through that opening at a selected angle to the femur plate, wherein selectable angles for a particular plate opening define a cone that does not touch the implant in its implanted state.

18. A femur plate configured to project from a trochanter region to a condyle region of a femur, the femur plate comprising:

a first end portion and a second end portion, the first end portion being anatomically pre-formed to conform to a convex surface of a greater trochanter of the femur and the second end portion being anatomically pre-formed to conform to a convex surface of a lateral condyle of the femur;
