Abstract

A system for identifying a person for a sporting event. The person is identified using pass-through facial recognition technology in which one or more images of the person are taken while the person is in motion. The person is identified by comparing one of the images taken while the person is in motion with a profile image of the person.

Claims (53)

1. A system configured to facially identify a person for a sporting event, comprising:

a user database configured to store digital facial data of the person prior to commencement of the sporting event, the digital facial data being associated with electronic contact data of the person;

a sensor configured to detect an approach of the person to initiate facial image capture;

at least one image collection device in a photo zone, each image collection device being adapted to capture a series of pass-through facial images of the person after detection of the person approaching towards the device, said device being configured for depth-detection, said device being configured to track the person as they move through the photo zone without a wearable device using RFID technology, said device being configured to forward the pass-through facial images of the person being tracked through the photo zone while the person is in motion; and

a processor configured to:

accept a paid per entry registration with facial data from a smartphone to permit attendance of the person at the sporting event;

receive from the at least one image collection device, while the person is at the event, the pass-through facial images of the person;

compare the digital facial data stored in said user database with at least one of the pass-through facial images of the person captured by the at least one image collection device; and

particularly identify the person upon a successful match between the digital facial data and at least one of the pass-through facial images solely using facial recognition technology as a primary identification, said processor being configured to particularly identify the person being tracked through the photo zone while the person is in motion, wherein said processor is configured to identify the person with a secondary identification where the identification using facial recognition technology fails to identify the person.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein said at least one image collection device includes a tablet computer.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the secondary identification includes a non-biometric means for identification.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein said non-biometric means includes at least one of a chip, a race number, and a smartwatch.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the sporting event is a running race.

The system of claim 1 , wherein said processor is configured to continue comparing the digital facial data stored in said user database with the at least one of the pass-through facial images until a successful match is achieved, or until there is no more facial data stored in said user database left to compare.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein said processor is a local computer, and said user database is a cloud-based storage medium.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein said processor is configured to use facial recognition technology which utilizes user eye location relative to user nose and/or cheek bone location.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein said processor is configured to use the facial recognition technology to confirm passage of the person past a predetermined point at the sporting event.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the predetermined point is a finish line.

11. A method to facially identify a person for a sporting event, comprising:

accepting a paid per entry registration with facial data from a smartphone to permit attendance of the person at the sporting event;

storing, in a user database, digital facial data of the person prior to commencement of the sporting event;

associating, with a processor, identification data of the person with the person's digital facial data;

tracking an approach of the person in a photo zone towards at least one image collection device, the tracking being conducted without a wearable device using RFID technology;

capturing, with the at least one image collection device, a series of pass-through facial images of the person, the image collection device being configured for depth-detection;

forwarding the pass-through facial images of the person while the person is in motion through the photo zone;

comparing the digital facial data stored in the user database with at least one of the pass-through facial images of the person captured by the at least one image collection device; and

identifying the person upon a successful match between the digital facial data and at least one of the pass-through facial images solely using facial recognition technology as a primary identification.

12. A method to facially identify a person for a sporting event, comprising:

accepting an entry registration with facial data from a smartphone to permit attendance of the person at the sporting event;

storing, in a user database, digital facial data of the person prior to commencement of the sporting event;

associating, with a processor, identification data of the person with the person's digital facial data;

tracking an approach of the person in a photo zone towards at least one image collection device, the tracking being conducted without a wearable device using RFID technology;

capturing, with the at least one image collection device, a series of pass-through facial images of the person, the image collection device being configured for depth-detection;

forwarding the pass-through facial images of the person while the person is in motion through the photo zone;

comparing the digital facial data stored in the user database with at least one of the pass-through facial images of the person captured by the at least one image collection device;

identifying the person upon a successful match between the digital facial data and at least one of the pass-through facial images solely using facial recognition technology as a primary identification; and

identifying the person using a secondary identification where the identification using facial recognition technology fails to identify the person.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the secondary identification includes a non-biometric means for identification.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the non-biometric means includes at least one of a chip, a race number, and a smartwatch.

15. The method of claim 11 , wherein the sporting event is a running race.

16. The method of claim 11 , wherein the identification includes using a point on an eye as a key data point.

17. The method of claim 11 , wherein the comparing continues until either a successful match is achieved, or until there is no more facial data stored in the user database left to compare.

18. The method of either claim 13 or 16 , wherein the digital facial data of the person is from a previously established user profile.

19. The system of claim 1 , wherein said user database is configured to add user facial data with the person's explicit permission.

20. The system of either claim 3 or 6 , wherein the digital facial data of the person in said user database is from a previously established user profile.

21. The system of claim 20 , wherein the system is configured to be accessible by a means for accessing the system.

22. The system of claim 1 , wherein said image collection device includes a 3-D rangefinder to facilitate depth detection.

23. The system of claim 1 , wherein said image collection device includes an associated viewing screen.

24. The method of claim 18 , further comprising accessing a local network of image collection devices with a means for accessing the network.

25. The method of claim 24 , wherein the means for accessing the network at least includes the image collection device.

26. The method of claim 25 , wherein the image collection device is a tablet computer.

27. The method of claim 11 , wherein the person is tracked with a wearable device.

28. The method of claim 11 , wherein the at least one image collection device includes a tablet computer.
