Abstract

Aspects of the present disclosure include a method of managing scent in an environment, which includes disposing at least one scent diffusion device within an environment, wherein the at least one scent diffusion device comprises a communications facility that enables transmitting signals to and receiving signals from a remote computer, receiving at least one target value of a scent parameter for the environment at the remote computer, and controlling, via the remote computer, diffusion of a liquid from a source of the liquid in fluid communication with the at least one scent diffusion device to achieve the target value of the scent parameter. Controlling a diffusion rate of the liquid includes altering at least one of a voltage and a duty cycle applied to at least one component of the diffusion device.

Claims (20)

1. A method for determining a fill level of a scent diffusion device disposed in an environment, the method comprising:

obtaining sensor readings from several sensors associated with the scent diffusion device;

discarding sensor readings from the several sensors of the scent diffusion device below a first threshold level;

discarding sensor readings of the scent diffusion device above a threshold number of standard deviations from a maximum sensor reading;

aggregating the remaining valid sensor readings of the scent diffusion device;

calculating a final fill percentage for the scent diffusion device;

responsive to calculating the final fill percentage, determining whether the final fill percentage is below a threshold fill percentage;

responsive to determining that the final fill percentage is below the threshold fill percentage, generating a control instruction indicating that the scent diffusion device should switch from a first package to a second package; and

responsive to generating the control instruction, the scent diffusion device switching from the first package to the second package.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the sensor reading is a voltage reading.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein a maximum sensor reading indicates a sensor of the several sensors closest to a magnet of the scent diffusion device.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein discarding sensor readings above a threshold number of standard deviations is achieved by calculating a standard deviation of all of the sensor readings, then determining if each individual sensor reading is within a threshold number of standard deviations from the maximum reading.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein calculating the standard deviation is achieved by multiplying the threshold number of standard deviations by the standard deviation and adding the result to the sensor reading, and wherein if the result of the calculation is greater than the maximum reading, then the subject sensor reading is discarded.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein each sensor has two fill percentage possibilities, a high possibility and a low possibility.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, for each remaining sensor reading, determining a side of a sensor curve the sensor reading is from and determining if the sensor reading falls within a range including a low percentage clip value and a high percentage clip value.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein when the fill percentage falls above the fill high percentage clip value and below the low percentage clip value, the previous reading minus average usage rate for the scent diffusion device is used as a predictive model.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the calculated fill percentage for each sensor, both high and low, is evaluated to determine if the calculated fill percentage falls within the high and low percentage clip values.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein if a particular fill percentage value falls between the high and low percentage clip values, then the calculated fill percentage is compared to the fill percentage value calculated for the immediately preceding reading and is considered a valid reading if the calculated fill percentage is less than that calculated for the immediately preceding reading.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein when two or more adjacent sensors of the several sensors have valid readings for a particular fill level, the calculated fill percentage determined for each of the sensors are averaged to arrive at a final fill percentage for a cartridge of the scent diffusion device at that fill level.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein once the low clip value is reached, an average rate of depletion is used to calculate the fill percentage starting from the last valid reading.
