Abstract

A vehicle cover assembly comprising; a flexible cover; one or more side rails; and a fastener assembly that is secured to a vehicle bed comprising; a cover fastener that is on one or more edge regions of the flexible cover; and a side rail fastener with one or more rows of fasteners comprising; a plurality of dual hooks on the base that releasably connect with the cover fastener of the flexible cover; and a plurality of spacers between the plurality of dual hooks.

Claims (28)

1. A side rail fastener configured to secure a tonneau cover to a side rail, the side rail fastener comprising:

a substrate;

a plurality of dual hooks supported on the substrate and comprising:

i) a plurality of first dual hooks each having a first base extending upwardly from the substrate, and a front first hook and a rear first hook, both of which extend upwardly from the first base and point in a first direction, wherein a first trench is defined between the front first hook, the rear first hook, and a top edge of the first base, the top edge of the first base is spaced upwardly from the substrate; and

ii) a plurality of second dual hooks each having a second base extending upwardly from the substrate, and a front second hook and a rear second hook, both of which are located on the second base and point in an opposing second direction;

wherein the plurality of first dual hooks are arranged in rows that extend along a length of the substrate and the plurality of second dual hooks are arranged in rows that extend along the length of the substrate, and the rows of the plurality of first dual hooks and the rows of the plurality of second dual hooks alternate along a width of the base so that either at least a portion of the front second hook or at least a portion of the rear second hook is at least partially aligned with the first trench in a transverse direction to the length of the substrate.

2. The side rail fastener according to claim 1 , wherein one or more of the plurality of first dual hooks comprises a pair of angled walls that are canted in the first direction.

3. The side rail fastener according to claim 2 , wherein one or more of the plurality of second dual hooks comprises a pair of angled walls that are canted in the second direction.

4. The side rail fastener according to claim 3 , wherein the side rail fastener comprises a spacer supported on the substrate, wherein a height of the spacer is greater than a height of one or more of the plurality of first dual hooks and a height of one or more of the plurality of second dual hooks.

5. The side rail fastener according to claim 4 , wherein one or more of the plurality of first dual hooks are a reverse mirror image of one or more of the plurality of second dual hooks.

6. The side rail fastener according to claim 5 , wherein the front hook and the rear hook of the first dual hooks comprises a connection lip, and the trench has a U-shape.

7. The side rail fastener according to claim 1 , wherein the side rail fastener comprises a spacer supported on the substrate, wherein a height of the spacer is greater than a height of one or more of the plurality of first dual hooks and a height of one or more of the plurality of second dual hooks.

8. The side rail fastener according to claim 7 , wherein one or more of the plurality of first dual hooks are a reverse mirror image of one or more of the plurality of second dual hooks.

9. A side rail fastener configured to secure a tonneau cover to a side rail, the side rail fastener comprising:

a substrate;

multiple rows of a plurality of first hook structures that point in a first direction, each of the plurality of first hook structures comprising a first base that extends upwardly from the substrate and a pair of first hooks extending upwardly from the first base, the plurality of first hook structures are arranged along a length of the substrate, each of the first hook structures comprise a first trench that is defined between the pair of first hooks and a top edge of the first base;

multiple rows of a plurality of second hook structures that point in a second direction, each of the plurality of second hook structures comprise a second base that extends upwardly from the substrate and a pair of second hooks extending upwardly from the second base, the plurality of second hook structures are arranged along the length of the substrate;

wherein at least one of the multiple rows of first hook structures is staggered between at least two of the multiple rows of the second hook structures so that a hook of one of the second hook structures is at least partially aligned with the first trench in a transverse direction to the length of the substrate.

10. The side rail fastener according to claim 9 , wherein one or more of the first hook structures are a reverse mirror image of one or more of the second hook structures.

11. The side rail fastener according to claim 10 , wherein the side rail fastener comprises a spacer supported on the substrate, wherein a height of the spacer is greater than a height of one or more of the first hook structures and/or one or more of the second hook structures.

12. The side rail fastener according to claim 11 , wherein the multiple rows of the first hook structures and the multiple rows of the second hook structures are substantially straight or linear along the length of the substrate.

13. The side rail fastener according to claim 11 , wherein a ratio of the first hook structures and the second hook structures is 1:1 or more.

14. A tonneau cover assembly comprising the side rail fastener according to claim 9 , wherein the tonneau cover assembly comprises the side rail and the tonneau cover, the side rail is configured to be attached to a bed wall of a cargo area of a vehicle, and the tonneau cover is configured to be rolled open and closed along the length of the side rail, wherein the side rail comprises opposing flanges for engaging the substrate of the side rail fastener.

15. The tonneau cover assembly according to claim 14 , wherein the substrate of the side rail fastener comprises a region that is free of any of the first hook structures and the second hook structures, wherein the region that is free of any of the first hook structures and the second hook structures is configured to be engaged by or between the opposing flanges of the side rail.

16. The tonneau assembly according to claim 15 , wherein the tonneau cover comprises a fastener assembly comprising a plurality of loops, and the plurality of loops are configured to engage and disengage the first hook structures and/or the second hook structures.

17. The side rail fastener according to claim 1 , wherein a gap is defined between adjacent first bases of respective first dual hooks in the transverse direction.

18. The side rail fastener according to claim 17 , wherein a second trench is defined between the front second hook, the rear second hook, and a top edge of the second base, the top edge of the second base is spaced upwardly from the substrate.

19. The side rail fastener according to claim 9 , wherein a gap is defined between adjacent first bases of respective first hook structures in the transverse direction.
