Claims (40)

1. A method of electronic communication, the method comprising:

storing, within a storage device, one or more of product catalogs for each customer of a plurality of customers, wherein each product catalog comprises products having at least one property in common;

receiving, via a network interface, a request from a device of a first customer;

selecting, via a processor, a second customer according to a first product in a first product catalog of the first customer matching a second product in a second product catalog of the second customer; and

directing, via the processor and the network interface, the device to present a user interface to initiate an electronic communication between the first customer and the second customer.

2. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

storing, in the customer profile for each customer of the plurality of customers, relationship designations that identify personal relationships between the plurality of customers; and

limiting the selection of the second customer to a subset of the plurality of customers having a personal relationship with the first customer.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user interface is configured to initiate the electronic communication by directing an e-mail message to the second customer.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user interface is configured to initiate the electronic communication by directing an instant message to the second customer.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user interface control is configured to initiate the electronic communication by placing a comment in a page associated with the second customer.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein directing the device to present the user interface comprises displaying information regarding the first product and the user interface.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one property in common is that a respective customer wants to purchase the products in a particular catalog.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one property in common is that a respective customer own the products in a particular catalog.

9. A computing system, comprising:

a storage device configured to store a customer profile for each customer of a plurality of customers, wherein:

each customer profile comprises a product catalog and a relationship designation, and

the relationship designation identifies personal relationships between the plurality of customers; and

a processor configured to:

receive a request from a device of a first customer,

search product catalogs of customers whose respective relationship designation specifies a relationship with the first customer,

select a second customer in response to a first product in a first product catalog of the first customer matching a second product in a second product catalog of the second customer, and

transmit signals to cause the device of the first customer to present a user interface comprising a user interface control to initiate an electronic communication directed to the second customer.

10. The computing system of claim 9 , wherein the user interface control is configured to initiate the electronic communication by sending an e-mail message to the second customer.

11. The computing system of claim 9 , wherein the user interface control is configured to initiate the electronic communication by sending an instant message to the second customer.

12. The computing system of claim 9 , wherein the user interface control is configured to initiate the electronic communication by placing a comment in a page associated with the second customer.

13. The computing system of claim 9 , wherein the processor is configured to transmit the signals so as to cause the device to simultaneously display both information regarding the first product and the user interface control.

14. A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising a plurality of instructions, that in response to being executed, cause a computing system to:

store a customer profile for each customer of a plurality of customers in an electronic database, wherein each customer profile comprises a plurality of product catalogs for the respective customer;

receive a request from a device of a first customer;

in response to the request, search product catalogs of other customers for a product in a first product catalog of the first customer and in a second product catalog of a second customer and select the second customer in response to finding the product in the first product catalog of the first customer and in the second product catalog of the second customer; and

present, to the first customer via the device, a user interface comprising a user interface control to initiate an electronic communication directed to the second customer.

15. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the plurality of instructions cause the computing system to:

identify additional products that are present in at least one of the product catalogs of the first customer and in at least one of the product catalogs of the second customer; and

present, to the first customer via the user interface, information that identifies additional products, respective product catalogs of the first customer in which the additional products are listed, and respective product catalogs of the second customer in which the additional products are listed.

16. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the plurality of instructions cause the computing system to present the user interface control such that the user interface control initiates the electronic communication by sending an e-mail message to the second customer.

17. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the plurality of instructions cause the computing system to present the user interface control such that the user interface control initiates the electronic communication by sending an instant message to the second customer.

18. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the plurality of instructions cause the computing system to present the user interface control such that the user interface control initiates the electronic communication by placing a comment in a page associated with the second customer.

19. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the plurality of instructions cause the computing system to simultaneously display both information regarding the first product and the user interface control.

20. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 14 , wherein the plurality of instructions cause the computing system to determine that the request is for a product listing of the first product.
