Abstract

Systems for volume manufacturing of items are provided. In some embodiments, a fabrication system is configured to retrieve a fabrication data package including manufacturing data. The system can verify the manufacturing data of the fabrication data package, and transmit the fabrication data package to at least one fabrication terminal configured to perform at least one fabrication process in accordance with the manufacturing data of the fabrication data package. If a predefined fabrication processing time period has not expired, the system can determine a process load associated with at least one additional fabrication data package, and repeating the above processes for the at least one additional fabrication data package, if the process load of the at least one additional fabrication data package is less than a predetermined process load of the fabrication system. If the predefined fabrication processing time period has expired, the system can generate a status report.

Claims (34)

1. A fabrication system comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory operably coupled to the one or more processors and storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the fabrication system to perform operations comprising:

(a) initiating a predefined fabrication processing time period;

(b) retrieving a fabrication data package, wherein the fabrication data package comprises manufacturing data;

(c) verifying the manufacturing data of the fabrication data package;

(d) transmitting the fabrication data package to at least one fabrication terminal, wherein the at least one fabrication terminal is configured to perform at least one fabrication process in accordance with the manufacturing data of the fabrication data package;

(e) if the predefined fabrication processing time period has not expired,

determining a process load associated with at least one additional fabrication data package, and

repeating (b) through (d) for the at least one additional fabrication data package if the process load of the at least one additional fabrication data package is less than a predetermined process load of the fabrication system; and

(f) if the predefined fabrication processing time period has expired, generating a status report.

2. The fabrication system of claim 1 , wherein the fabrication data package is retrieved via a data network.

3. The fabrication system of claim 1 , wherein the fabrication data package is retrieved from a remote terminal.

4. The fabrication system of claim 3 , wherein the operations further comprise transmitting the status report to the remote terminal.

5. The fabrication system of claim 1 , wherein the manufacturing data includes a three-dimensional representation of a patient's teeth for each of a plurality of treatment stages for the patient.

6. The fabrication system of claim 5 , wherein verifying the manufacturing data comprises determining whether the fabrication data package is missing data for any of the treatment stages.

7. The fabrication system of claim 6 , wherein the operations further comprise: if the fabrication data package is missing data for at least one treatment stage, requesting the missing data before performing the at least one fabrication process.

8. The fabrication system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise generating a message upon completion of the verification.

9. The fabrication system of claim 8 , wherein the fabrication data package is retrieved from a remote terminal, and the generated message is transmitted to the remote terminal.

10. The fabrication system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further comprise detecting an error condition associated with the fabrication data package.

11. The fabrication system of claim 10 , wherein the operations further comprise transmitting a report of the error condition to a remote terminal.

12. The fabrication system of claim 11 , wherein the operations further comprise receiving a modified fabrication data package generated by the remote terminal to address the error condition.

13. The fabrication system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one fabrication process comprises generating a tray data file based on the manufacturing data, wherein the tray data file includes layout information indicating a spacing and an orientation for each of a plurality of items on a tray.

14. The fabrication system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one fabrication process comprises manufacturing a plurality of items via a rapid prototyping process.

15. The fabrication system of claim 1 , wherein the predetermined process load of the fabrication system is based on an operational status of the at least one fabrication terminal in performing the at least one fabrication process.

16. The fabrication system of claim 15 , wherein the at least one fabrication process comprises:

generating three-dimensional object data based on the manufacturing data of the fabrication data package, and

causing a manufacturing machine to fabricate an item according to the three-dimensional object data.

17. The fabrication system of claim 16 , wherein the at least one fabrication process comprises converting the three-dimensional object data into a format executable by the manufacturing machine.

18. The fabrication system of claim 1 , wherein if the process load of the at least one additional fabrication data package is not less than the predetermined process load of the fabrication system, the operations further comprise timing out for a predetermined period before repeating (b) through (d) for the at least one additional fabrication data package.

19. The fabrication system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one fabrication terminal comprises a plurality of fabrication terminals, and wherein the operations further comprise:

parsing the fabrication data package into a plurality of data batches, and

transmitting each data batch to one of the plurality of fabrication terminals.

20. The fabrication system of claim 19 , wherein the operations further comprise monitoring an operational status of each of the plurality of fabrication terminals.
