SCAFFOLD WOUND DRESSING
The present disclosure includes a method of adhering an external wound dressing formed of an animal-derived bioprotein scaffolding around a site on a patient, for example, where a medical apparatus is entering the patient. The animal-derived bioprotein scaffolding can be formed of bioprotein fibers woven together. An adhesive can be integrated with the animal-derived bioprotein scaffolding and the external wound dressing can be affixed to the medical apparatus to secure the medical apparatus to the patient.
1 . A method comprising:
adhering an external wound dressing formed of an animal-derived bioprotein scaffolding around a site on a patient where a medical apparatus is entering the patient, wherein the animal-derived bioprotein scaffolding is formed of bioprotein fibers woven together and an adhesive is integrated with the animal-derived bioprotein scaffolding; and
affixing the external wound dressing to the medical apparatus to secure the medical apparatus to the patient.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the adhesive is a pressure sensitive adhesive.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the adhesive is a waterproof pressure sensitive adhesive.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein an antimicrobial agent is integrated with the animal-derived bioprotein scaffolding.
5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the antimicrobial agent comprises ammonium or silver.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the medical apparatus is a tube entering the patient.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the medical apparatus comprises a lead for an electrical device.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the medical apparatus is affixed without stitches.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the external wound dressing is adhered over the site and at least partially covers the medical apparatus.
10 . The method of claim 1 , the external wound dressing further comprising a slit forming a non-split region and a split region comprising two or more tails utilized to secure the medical apparatus.
11 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising cutting the slit in the external wound dressing.
12 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the external wound dressing is provided with a preformed slit.
13 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising:
adhering the non-split region to the patient on one side of the medical apparatus; and
adhering the tails on an opposite side of the medical apparatus.
14 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising:
adhering the non-split region to the patient; and
wrapping the tails around the medical apparatus to secure the medical apparatus to the patient.
15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein wrapping the tails around the medical apparatus comprises wrapping in a roman sandal manner.
