Abstract

A capsule for preparation of a beverage can include a container and a beverage ingredient contained therein. The container can include at least one support having a section on which a plurality of sequences of symbols is represented; each symbol is sequentially readable, by a reading arrangement of an external device, while the capsule is rotated along an axis of rotation. Each sequence can code a set of information related to the capsule, and at least one of the sequences can include symbols defining a preamble sequence that allows determination of a position of the symbols in the associated sequence coding the set of information related to the capsule. The container can include a cup-shaped body having a flange-like rim and a lid connected to the body, the support can be on a bottom of the rim, and the bottom of the rim can be opposed to the lid.

Claims (33)

1. A support adapted to be associated with, or part of, a capsule for the preparation of a beverage, the support comprising a section on which at least one sequence of symbols is represented so as that each symbol is sequentially readable, by a reading arrangement of an external device, while the capsule is driven in rotation along an axis of rotation, each sequence coding a set of information related to the capsule, the information including a speed of rotation of the capsule during a centrifugation extraction process performed on the capsule.

2. The support of claim 1 , wherein the capsule comprises a body and a lid connected at a rim to the body and the support is adapted for connection to a bottom of the rim, which is opposed to the lid of the capsule.

3. The support of claim 1 , wherein the information includes: liquid flow rate and/or liquid temperature, for liquid that traverses a coffee in the capsule during the centrifugation extraction process.

4. The support according to claim 1 , wherein the set of information of at least one of the sequences comprises information for recognizing a type associated to the capsule.

5. The support according to claim 1 , wherein the set of information of at least one of the sequences comprises information for detecting errors, and/or for correcting errors in said set of information.

6. The support according to claim 1 , wherein at least one of the sequences comprises symbols defining a preamble sequence, so as to allow the determination of a position of the symbols in said sequence coding the set of information related to the capsule.

7. The support according to claim 6 , wherein the preamble symbols and/or the preamble sequences comprise information for authentifying the set of information.

8. The support according to claim 1 , wherein each symbol is represented in the section by an entity having a measurable characteristic, readable by the measuring arrangement, the measurable characteristic varying according to the value conveyed by said symbol.

9. The support according to claim 1 , wherein each symbol is printed and/or embossed in the section of the support.

10. The support according to claim 1 , wherein the section of the support is a circumference, each symbol being represented in the section by a segment which is substantially rectilinear and/or arch shaped and extends substantially along at least a part of the circumference.

11. The support according to claim 1 , wherein the symbol are readable by an optical sensor included in the reading arrangement, the color and/or the shape of each symbol being chosen according the value of said symbol.

12. The support according to claim 1 , wherein the symbols is printed or embossed by a pattern which possesses surfaces having different reflective and/or absorbing properties to light.

13. The support of claim 1 , wherein there are at least two sequences of the same length, which are repeated.

14. The support of claim 1 , wherein the symbols are arranged as diffuse and reflective portions to encode 1 and 0.

15. The support of claim 1 , wherein the symbols are readable in the infrared spectrum.

A capsule for the preparation of a beverage comprising a container and a beverage ingredient contained therein, wherein the container comprises at least one support the support comprising a section on which at least one sequence of symbols is represented so as that each symbol is sequentially readable, by a reading arrangement of an external device, while the capsule is driven in rotation along an axis of rotation, each sequence coding a set of information related to the capsule, the information including a speed of rotation of the capsule during a centrifugation extraction process performed on the capsule.

17. The capsule according to claim 16 , wherein the support is permanently attached or placed on said capsule or is removably connected on said capsule.

18. The capsule according to claim 16 , wherein the section is arranged on the container along an arc-shaped or circular path of a circumference of the capsule.

19. The capsule according to claim 16 , wherein each sequence is arranged along at least an eighth of the circumference.

20. The capsule according to claim 16 , wherein the container comprises a body and a lid connected to the body and wherein the section is present on the lid of the container.

21. The capsule according to claim 16 , wherein the section is present on the rim of the capsule.

22. The capsule according to claim 16 , wherein the section is present on the bottom of the rim of the capsule which is opposed to the lid or foil of the capsule.

23. The capsule according to claim 16 , wherein the capsule is formed of a recyclable and/or bio-degradable material.

24. The capsule according to claim 16 , wherein the capsule comprises a cup-shaped body and a foil or membrane lid to close the body.

25. The capsule according to claim 16 , configured for a centrifugation extraction process in which liquid fed into the capsule and traverses a coffee bed and flows out of a periphery of the capsule.

A system for preparing a beverage from a capsule comprising a container and a beverage ingredient contained therein, wherein the container comprises at least one support adapted to be associated with, or part of, a capsule for preparation of a beverage, the capsule comprising a section on which at least one sequence of symbols is represented so as that each symbol is sequentially readable by a reading arrangement while the capsule is rotated along an axis of rotation, each sequence coding a set of information related to the capsule, the information including a speed of rotation of the capsule during a centrifugation extraction process performed on the capsule,

the system comprises a beverage preparation device comprising a capsule holder for holding the capsule and rotational driver for driving the holder and capsule in rotation along the axis of rotation, the beverage preparation device comprising the reading arrangement configured for reading the sequences of symbols in the section when the capsule is rotated along said axis.

27. The system according to claim 26 , wherein the reading means comprises a light emitter and a light sensor or an inductive sensor.

28. The system according to claim 26 , wherein the optical reading means or inductive sensor is arranged to read the sequences on the rim of the capsule.

29. A method for preparing a beverage, the method comprising:

rotating a capsule about an axis of rotation to read a section of the capsule on which at least one sequence of symbols is represented so that each symbol is sequentially readable, each sequence coding a set of information related to the capsule, the information including a speed of rotation of the capsule during a centrifugation extraction process performed on the capsule, and;

extracting by centrifugation the beverage from the capsule by rotating the capsule about the axis.

30. The method according to claim 29 , wherein the symbols are read at a first rotational speed and the beverage is extracted from the capsule at a second rotational speed.
