Additive formulation for reduction or prevention of microbially induced corrosion in concrete or cementitious material
An additive formulation for reduction or prevention of microbially induced corrosion in concrete, cementitious material (such as mortar or grout), or a combination thereof. The additive formulation comprises a Quat Silane and a fungicide, wherein the ratio of the Quat Silane to the fungicide in the formulation is in a range of about 10:1 to about 1:10, preferably in a range of about 5:1 to about 1:5.
1. A method of preparing a material comprising:
adding an additive formulation comprising a Quat Silane configured to cure on and/or within the material, a defoamer, and a fungicide to the material; wherein the material is in a wet-state selected from the group consisting of an uncured concrete, an uncured cementitious material, and a combination thereof; and wherein the addition results in a reduction or an elimination of microbially induced corrosion, wherein the defoamer is present in the additive formulation from about 2 weight % to about 25 weight %.
2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the Quat Silane is in a ratio of the Quat Silane to the fungicide in a range of about 10:1 to about 1:10.
3. The method according to claim 2 , wherein the Quat Silane is in a ratio of the Quat Silane to the fungicide in a range of about 5:1 to about 1:5.
4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the defoamer is selected from the group consisting of polyether amine, ethoxylated alcohol, silicone-based defoamer, tributyl phosphate, and a combination thereof.

The method according to claim 1 , wherein the fungicide is selected from the group consisting of Sodium OrthophenylPhenol, Imazalil Sulphate, diiodomethyl-p-tolylsulfone, carbamate, isothiazolinone, azole, chlorothalonil, zinc pyrithione, copper pyrithione, sodium pyrithione, tebuconazole and propiconazole; chlorothalonil, diiodomethyl-p-tolylsulfone, zinc pyrithione, copper pyrithione, sodium pyrithione, and a combination thereof.
6. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the carbamate is selected from the group consisting of iodopropynyl butylcarbamate (IPBC), carbendazim, and a combination thereof.
7. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the isothiazolinone is selected from the group consisting of OIT (2-Octyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one), DCOIT (4,5-Dichloro-2-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one), BBIT (N-butyl-1, 2-benzisothiazolin-3-one), and a combination thereof.
8. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the azole is selected from the group consisting of tebuconazole and propiconazole, and a combination thereof.
9. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the Quat Silane is added at an effective amount to reduce bacteria and fungus and/or prevent bacterial and fungal growth in the material.
10. An article comprising:
a material, in a wet-state, selected from the group consisting of an uncured concrete, an uncured cementitious material, and a combination thereof having an additive formulation cured therein, wherein the additive formulation comprises a Quat Silane, a fungicide, and a defoamer from about 2 weight % to about 25 weight % of the amount of the Quat Silane.
11. The article according to claim 10 , wherein the ratio of the Quat Silane to the fungicide in the formulation is in a range of about 10:1 to about 1:10.
12. The article according to claim 10 wherein the ratio of the Quat Silane to the fungicide in the formulation is in a range of about 5:1 to about 1:5.
13. The article according to claim 10 , wherein the defoamer is selected from the group consisting of polyether amine, ethoxylated alcohol, silicone-based defoamer, tributyl phosphate, and a combination thereof.

The article according to claim 10 , wherein the fungicide is selected from the group consisting of Sodium OrthophenylPhenol, Imazalil Sulphate, diiodomethyl-p-tolylsulfone, carbamate, isothiazolinone, azole, chlorothalonil, zinc pyrithione, copper pyrithione, sodium pyrithione, and a combination thereof.
15. The article according to claim 14 , wherein the carbamate is selected from the group consisting of iodopropynyl butylcarbamate (IPBC), carbendazim, and a combination thereof.
16. The article according to claim 14 , wherein the isothiazolinone is selected from the group consisting of OIT (2-Octyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one), DCOIT (4,5-Dichloro-2-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one), BBIT (N-butyl-1, 2-benzisothiazolin-3-one), and a combination thereof.
17. The article according to claim 14 , wherein the azole is selected from the group consisting of tebuconazole and propiconazole, and a combination thereof.
18. An article comprising cured concrete or cured cement having an additive formulation cured therein, wherein the additive formulation comprises a Quat Silane, a fungicide, and a defoamer from about 2 weight % to about 25 weight % of the amount of the Quat Silane.
19. The article according to claim 18 , wherein the ratio of the Quat Silane to the fungicide in the formulation is in a range of about 10:1 to about 1:10.
20. The article according to claim 19 , wherein the ratio of the Quat Silane to the fungicide in the formulation is in a range of about 5:1 to about 1:5.
21. The article according to claim 18 , wherein the defoamer is selected from the group consisting of polyether amine, ethoxylated alcohol, silicone-based defoamer, tributyl phosphate, and a combination thereof.

The article according to claim 18 , wherein the fungicide is selected from the group consisting of Sodium OrthophenylPhenol, Imazalil Sulphate, diiodomethyl-p-tolylsulfone, carbamate, isothiazolinone, azole, chlorothalonil, zinc pyrithione, copper pyrithione, sodium pyrithione, and a combination thereof.
23. The article according to claim 22 , wherein the carbamate is selected from the group consisting of iodopropynyl butylcarbamate (IPBC), carbendazim, and a combination thereof.
24. The article according to claim 22 , wherein the isothiazolinone is selected from the group consisting of OIT (2-Octyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one), DCOIT (4,5-Dichloro-2-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one), BBIT (N-butyl-1, 2-benzisothiazolin-3-one), and a combination thereof.
25. The article according to claim 22 , wherein the azole is selected from the group consisting of tebuconazole and propiconazole, and a combination thereof.
