Abstract

An additive formulation for reduction or prevention of microbially induced corrosion in concrete, cementitious material (such as mortar or grout), or a combination thereof. The additive formulation comprises a Quat Silane and a fungicide, wherein the ratio of the Quat Silane to the fungicide in the formulation is in a range of about 10:1 to about 1:10, preferably in a range of about 5:1 to about 1:5.

Claims (27)

1. A method of preparing a material comprising:

adding an additive formulation comprising a Quat Silane configured to cure on and/or within the material, a defoamer, and a fungicide to the material; wherein the material is in a wet-state selected from the group consisting of an uncured concrete, an uncured cementitious material, and a combination thereof; and wherein the addition results in a reduction or an elimination of microbially induced corrosion, wherein the defoamer is present in the additive formulation from about 2 weight % to about 25 weight %.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the Quat Silane is in a ratio of the Quat Silane to the fungicide in a range of about 10:1 to about 1:10.

3. The method according to claim 2 , wherein the Quat Silane is in a ratio of the Quat Silane to the fungicide in a range of about 5:1 to about 1:5.

4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the defoamer is selected from the group consisting of polyether amine, ethoxylated alcohol, silicone-based defoamer, tributyl phosphate, and a combination thereof.

5. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the fungicide is selected from the group consisting of Sodium OrthophenylPhenol, Imazalil Sulphate, diiodomethyl-p-tolylsulfone, carbamate, isothiazolinone, azole, chlorothalonil, zinc pyrithione, copper pyrithione, sodium pyrithione, tebuconazole and propiconazole; chlorothalonil, diiodomethyl-p-tolylsulfone, zinc pyrithione, copper pyrithione, sodium pyrithione, and a combination thereof.

6. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the carbamate is selected from the group consisting of iodopropynyl butylcarbamate (IPBC), carbendazim, and a combination thereof.

7. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the isothiazolinone is selected from the group consisting of OIT (2-Octyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one), DCOIT (4,5-Dichloro-2-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one), BBIT (N-butyl-1, 2-benzisothiazolin-3-one), and a combination thereof.

8. The method according to claim 5 , wherein the azole is selected from the group consisting of tebuconazole and propiconazole, and a combination thereof.

9. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the Quat Silane is added at an effective amount to reduce bacteria and fungus and/or prevent bacterial and fungal growth in the material.

10. An article comprising:

a material, in a wet-state, selected from the group consisting of an uncured concrete, an uncured cementitious material, and a combination thereof having an additive formulation cured therein, wherein the additive formulation comprises a Quat Silane, a fungicide, and a defoamer from about 2 weight % to about 25 weight % of the amount of the Quat Silane.

11. The article according to claim 10 , wherein the ratio of the Quat Silane to the fungicide in the formulation is in a range of about 10:1 to about 1:10.

12. The article according to claim 10 wherein the ratio of the Quat Silane to the fungicide in the formulation is in a range of about 5:1 to about 1:5.

13. The article according to claim 10 , wherein the defoamer is selected from the group consisting of polyether amine, ethoxylated alcohol, silicone-based defoamer, tributyl phosphate, and a combination thereof.

14. The article according to claim 10 , wherein the fungicide is selected from the group consisting of Sodium OrthophenylPhenol, Imazalil Sulphate, diiodomethyl-p-tolylsulfone, carbamate, isothiazolinone, azole, chlorothalonil, zinc pyrithione, copper pyrithione, sodium pyrithione, and a combination thereof.

15. The article according to claim 14 , wherein the carbamate is selected from the group consisting of iodopropynyl butylcarbamate (IPBC), carbendazim, and a combination thereof.

16. The article according to claim 14 , wherein the isothiazolinone is selected from the group consisting of OIT (2-Octyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one), DCOIT (4,5-Dichloro-2-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one), BBIT (N-butyl-1, 2-benzisothiazolin-3-one), and a combination thereof.

17. The article according to claim 14 , wherein the azole is selected from the group consisting of tebuconazole and propiconazole, and a combination thereof.

18. An article comprising cured concrete or cured cement having an additive formulation cured therein, wherein the additive formulation comprises a Quat Silane, a fungicide, and a defoamer from about 2 weight % to about 25 weight % of the amount of the Quat Silane.

19. The article according to claim 18 , wherein the ratio of the Quat Silane to the fungicide in the formulation is in a range of about 10:1 to about 1:10.

20. The article according to claim 19 , wherein the ratio of the Quat Silane to the fungicide in the formulation is in a range of about 5:1 to about 1:5.

21. The article according to claim 18 , wherein the defoamer is selected from the group consisting of polyether amine, ethoxylated alcohol, silicone-based defoamer, tributyl phosphate, and a combination thereof.
