Decentralized identity methods and systems
The present techniques relate to, inter alia, cryptographically-verifiable insurance credentials and cryptographically-verifiable property transfer. The novel methods and systems of decentralized identity discussed herein improve user experience (whether individual or organizational) by moving control over identity from the hands of centralized entities, back to where it belongs—i.e., to the hands of individual organizations and users. In one aspect, a method includes obtaining a scanned image; processing the scanned image; transmitting a claim request; and receiving and storing an attestation response, and a computing system includes a processor; and a memory having stored thereon computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the computing system to: receive a claim request; cryptographically verify the claim; and transmit an attestation response.
1 . A computer-implemented method for performing cryptographically-verifiable property transfer, the method comprising:
obtaining, from a camera device of a user device, an image of an item of property of a testator-user;
obtaining, by an application running on the user device, a unique identifier corresponding to the item of property of the testator-user by processing the image of the item of property using a trained machine learning model to determine the unique identifier;
receiving, by a graphical user interface (GUI) of the application running on the user device, an assignment of the item of property to at least one beneficiary;
in response to receiving the assignment via the GUI:
creating, by the application running on the user device, a property record including the unique identifier and an indication of the at least one beneficiary;
generating, by the application running on the user device, a cryptographic signature corresponding to the property record using a private key of the user associated with a public key of the user with the cryptographic signature;
encrypting, by the application running on the user device, the property record with the generated signature; and
storing, by the application running on the user device, the property record and the corresponding cryptographic signature in an electronic database.
2 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 ,
wherein the item of property is personal property.
3 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the unique identifier is a serial number.
4 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising:
causing, in response to a user selection of a beneficiary, a beneficiary notification to be transmitted to the at least one beneficiary.
5 . The computer-implemented method of claim 4 , wherein the beneficiary notification is an email.
6 . The computer-implemented method of claim 4 , wherein transmitting the beneficiary notification is performed via a smart contract in response to a detected condition.
7 . The computer-implemented method of claim 1 ,
wherein the item of property of the testator-user is real property, and
wherein obtaining the unique identifier corresponding to the item of property includes querying a government real property database.
8 . A computing system for performing cryptographically-verifiable property transfer:
one or more processors; and
one or more memories having stored thereon computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the computing system to run an application configured to:
obtain, from a camera of a user device, an image of an item of property of a testator-user;
obtain a unique identifier corresponding to the item of property of the testator-user by processing the image of the item of property using a trained machine learning model to determine the unique identifier;
receive, via a graphical user interface (GUI) of the application, an assignment of the item of property to at least one beneficiary;
in response to receiving the assignment via the GUI:
create a property record including the unique identifier and an indication of the at least one beneficiary;
determine that a property database has received a forwarded property record;
generate a cryptographic signature corresponding to the property record using a private key of the user associated with a public key of the user;
encrypt the property record with the generated signature; and
store the property record and the corresponding cryptographic signature in an electronic database.

12 . The computing system of claim 8 , the memories having stored thereon further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the computing system to:
transmit an email beneficiary notification to the at least one beneficiary.
13 . The computing system of claim 8 , the memories having stored thereon further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the computing system to:
determine a condition in a smart contract.
14 . The computing system of claim 8 , the memories having stored thereon further instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the computing system to:
query a government real property database to determine the unique identifier.
15 . A non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon computer-executable instructions, that when executed, cause a computer to run an application configured to:
obtain, from a camera of a user device, an image of an item of property of a testator-user;
obtain a unique identifier corresponding to the item of property of the testator-user by processing the image of the item of property using a trained machine learning model to determine the unique identifier;
receive, via a graphical user interface (GUI) of the application, an assignment of the item of property to at least one beneficiary;
in response to receiving the assignment via the GUI:
create a property record including the unique identifier and an indication of the at least one beneficiary;
generate a cryptographic signature corresponding to the property record using a private key of the user associated with a public key of the user;
