COMPOSITIONS AND METHODS FOR THE TREATMENT OF PRESBYOPIA
The invention provides compositions and methods for the treatment of presbyopia. The compositions preferably comprise aceclidine. The compositions optionally contain a surfactant and a viscosity agent.
1 . A method of inhibiting or reducing ciliary spasm or pain in a subject, said method comprising administering a polyol to said subject in combination with aceclidine, wherein said subject experiences greater ciliary spasm or pain when otherwise similarly administered aceclidine in an absence of said polyol.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said method does not comprise administering a physiologically significant amount of tropicamide.
3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising administering less than about 0.02% tropicamide in combination with said aceclidine and said polyol.
4 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising administering a non-ionic surfactant in combination with said aceclidine and said polyol.
5 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising administering a viscosity agent in combination with said aceclidine and said polyol.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said polyol and said aceclidine are administered together in a combined composition.
7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein, prior to administering to said subject, said combined composition is lyophilized.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said subject is being treated for presbyopia.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said method improves vision of said subject by at least 1.5 lines of visual acuity.
10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said method improves vision of said subject by at least 5% compared to similarly administered aceclidine in the absence of said polyol.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said method improves vision of said subject for at least 4 hours.
12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said method improves vision of said subject by at least 5% and reduces ciliary spasm by at least 5% compared to similarly administered aceclidine in the absence of said polyol.
13 . The method of claim 12 , wherein said method improves vision of said subject by at least 1.5 lines of visual acuity for at least 4 hours.
14 . The method of claim 1 , wherein said aceclidine is administered in a composition where an amount of said aceclidine is not greater than about 2% w/v.
