Abstract

A system and method provides for the use of a proprietary platform to predict impressions and to predict and design ad campaigns. Specifically, a proprietary programmatic advertisement platform correlates television programming asset sources with actual viewing behavior of broadcasts associated with the television programming assets and ad content associated with the ad campaign. The correlation produces a predicted performance value used to generate an ad campaign. For instance, the invention enables television programming asset sources and viewership information providers to communicate with the programmatic advertisement platform in a way that adds value to or otherwise facilitates the valuation of the television programming asset sources in context of the particular ad. Thus, the programmatic advertisement platform delivers improved performance and lower effective cost of television ad campaigns by using automation for simplification and advanced targeting algorithms to reach desired audiences more efficiently.

Claims (40)

1. A method, comprising:

receiving, by one or more processors of a programmatic advertising server, from a client device, a request comprising selection criteria, an advertisement, and a policy that specifies a restriction and an impression guarantee, the selection criteria specified in a graphical user interface generated at the client device;

in response to the request, determining a predicted performance value for placement of the advertisement in at least one slot of a media asset from amongst a plurality of media assets provided by an asset source using a data set created by correlating the plurality of media assets with viewership information and consumer data from a plurality of set-top boxes;

distributing the advertisement to the asset source for placement in the media asset based on an advertising campaign generated using the predicted performance value, the selection criteria, and the restriction;

correlating the consumer data with the plurality of media assets to determine viewing behavior tied to consumer data segments, wherein the consumer data is received from a consumer data provider service and comprises gender, age, location, and income;

in response to determining that additional viewership information from the plurality of set-top boxes fails to satisfy the impression guarantee, generating a recommendation for a modified advertising campaign based on a subject matter of the advertising campaign, the selection criteria, the viewing behavior, and the additional viewership information, the modified advertising campaign placing the advertisement in a different at least one slot associated with a different asset from amongst the plurality of media assets; and

generating report information associated with the recommendation for the modified advertising campaign, wherein the report information, when received and processed by the client device, causes the client device to display a report of the modified advertising campaign comprising campaign information and an analytical factor, wherein the analytical factor comprises a plan impression score, an impression heat map, an impression distribution, or an impression delivery schedule.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the viewership information is received from a viewership information provider that aggregates data from the plurality of set-top boxes.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the predicted performance value indicates a success metric for placement of the advertisement in the media asset.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the selection criteria comprises campaign dates, a target audience that specifies an age range, and a budget.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

generating a graph that indicates impression data by day of week using the additional viewership information; and

causing the client device to display the graph in the graphical user interface.

6. A system, comprising:

a memory; and

a processor coupled to the memory and configured to:

receive, from a client device, a request comprising selection criteria, an advertisement, and a policy that specifies a restriction and an impression guarantee, the selection criteria specified in a graphical user interface generated at the client device;

in response to the request, determine a predicted performance value for placement of the advertisement in at least one slot of a media asset from amongst a plurality of media assets provided by an asset source using a data set created by correlating the plurality of media assets with viewership information and consumer data from a plurality of set-top boxes;

distribute the advertisement to the asset source for placement in the media asset based on an advertising campaign generated using the predicted performance value, the selection criteria, and the restriction;

correlate the consumer data with the plurality of media assets to determine viewing behavior tied to consumer data segments, wherein the consumer data is received from a consumer data provider service and comprises gender, age, location, and income;

in response to determining that additional viewership information from the plurality of set-top boxes fails to satisfy the impression guarantee, generate a recommendation for a modified advertising campaign based on a subject matter of the advertising campaign, the selection criteria, the viewing behavior, and the additional viewership information, the modified advertising campaign placing the advertisement in a different at least one slot associated with a different asset from amongst the plurality of media assets, and

generate report information associated with the recommendation for the modified advertising campaign, wherein the report information, when received and processed by the client device, causes the client device to display a report of the modified advertising campaign comprising campaign information and an analytical factor, wherein the analytical factor comprises a plan impression score, an impression heat map, an impression distribution, or an impression delivery schedule.

7. The system of claim 6 , wherein the viewership information is received from a viewership information provider that aggregates data from the plurality of set-top boxes.

8. The system of claim 6 , wherein the predicted performance value indicates a success metric for placement of the advertisement in the media asset.

9. The system of claim 6 , wherein the selection criteria comprises campaign dates, a target audience, and a budget, and wherein the target audience comprises an age range.

10. The system of claim 6 , the processor further configured to:

generate a graph that indicates impression data by day of week using the additional viewership information; and

cause the client device to display the graph in the graphical user interface.

11. A non-transitory computer-readable device having instructions stored thereon that, when executed by a computing device, cause the computing device to perform operations comprising:

receiving, from a client device, a request comprising selection criteria, an advertisement, and a policy that specifies a restriction and an impression guarantee, the selection criteria specified in a graphical user interface generated at the client device;

in response to the request, determining a predicted performance value for placement of the advertisement in at least one slot of a media asset from amongst a plurality of media assets provided by an asset source using a data set created by correlating the plurality of media assets with viewership information and consumer data from a plurality of set-top boxes;

distributing the advertisement to the asset source for placement in the media asset based on an advertising campaign generated using the predicted performance value, the selection criteria, and the restriction;

correlating the consumer data with the plurality of media assets to determine viewing behavior tied to consumer data segments, wherein the consumer data is received from a consumer data provider service and comprises gender, age, location, and income;

in response to determining that additional viewership information from the plurality of set-top boxes fails to satisfy the impression guarantee, generating a recommendation for a modified advertising campaign based on a subject matter of the advertising campaign, the selection criteria, the viewing behavior, and the additional viewership information, the modified advertising campaign placing the advertisement in a different at least one slot associated with a different asset from amongst the plurality of media assets; and

generating report information associated with the recommendation for the modified advertising campaign, wherein the report information, when received and processed by the client device, causes the client device to display a report of the modified advertising campaign comprising campaign information and an analytical factor, wherein the analytical factor comprises a plan impression score, an impression heat map, an impression distribution, or an impression delivery schedule.

12. The non-transitory computer-readable device of claim 11 , wherein the viewership information is received from a viewership information provider that aggregates data from the plurality of set-top boxes.

13. The non-transitory computer-readable device of claim 11 , wherein the predicted performance value indicates a success metric for placement of the advertisement in the media asset.

14. The non-transitory computer-readable device of claim 11 , the operations further comprising:

generating a graph that indicates impression data by day using the additional viewership information; and

causing the client device to display the graph in the graphical user interface.
