Abstract

Systems and methods for user identification (ID) document verification are provided. An exemplary method includes receiving, by a client device, an image of an ID document. Based on the image of the ID document, a determination is made whether the ID document includes a near-field communications (NFC) chip that stores an ID photo associated with the ID document. Based on this determination of whether the ID document includes an NFC chip, the ID document is verified by selectively using at least one of NFC chip authentication and optical authentication, to obtain a verification result.

Claims (37)

1. A computer-implemented method for user identification (ID) verification, the method comprising:

receiving, by a computing device, an image of an ID document;

based on the image of the ID document received, determining whether the ID document includes a near-field communications (NFC) chip that stores an ID photo associated with the ID document; and

based on the determination of whether the ID document includes the NFC chip, verifying the ID document by selectively using at least one of NFC chip authentication and optical authentication, to obtain a verification result.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the step of determining of whether the ID document includes the NFC chip is performed using at least one of the computing device, a service provider, a cloud network and any combination thereof.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the ID document comprises one of a government issued ID, a permanent residency ID card, a student ID, an employment ID, a driver's license, a passport, and a travel document.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the received image of the ID document is a picture or a scan.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the image is captured by a standalone camera or a camera of a user device.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the ID photo includes a digital passphoto of an owner of the ID document.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the ID document includes a machine readable zone (MRZ).

8. The method of claim 7 , further comprising:

reading the MRZ of the ID document; and

based on the reading of the MRZ of the ID document, determining a date of birth of an owner of the ID document and a date of expiry for the ID document.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein upon verifying the ID document by using at least one of NFC chip authentication and optical authentication, the ID document is logically associated to the computing device.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein, based on a determination that the ID document includes the NFC chip, selecting NFC chip authentication for verification of the ID document.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein, based on a determination that the ID document does not include the NFC chip, selecting optical authentication for verification of the ID document.

12. A system for user identification (ID) document verification, the system comprising:

a client device for capturing an image of an ID document;

at least one processor associated with the client device; and

a memory communicatively coupled with the at least one processor, the memory storing instructions, which when executed by the at least one processor performs a method comprising:

receiving, by a computing device, an image of an ID document;

based on the image of the ID document received, determining whether the ID document includes a near-field communications (NFC) chip that stores an ID photo associated with the ID document; and

based on the determination of whether the ID document includes the NFC chip, verifying the ID document by selectively using at least one of NFC chip authentication and optical authentication, to obtain a verification result.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the step of determining of whether the ID document includes the NFC chip is performed using at least one of the computing device, a service provider, a cloud network and any combination thereof.

14. The system of claim 12 , wherein the ID document comprises one of a government issued ID, a permanent residency ID card, a student ID, an employment ID, a driver's license, a passport, and a travel document.

15. The system of claim 12 , wherein the received image of the ID document is a picture or a scan.

16. The system of claim 12 , wherein the image is captured by a standalone camera or a camera of a user device.

17. The system of claim 12 , wherein the ID photo includes a digital passphoto of an owner of the ID document.

18. The system of claim 12 , wherein the ID document includes a machine readable zone (MRZ).

19. The system of claim 18 , the method further comprising:

reading the MRZ of the ID document; and

based on the reading of the MRZ of the ID document, determining a date of birth of an owner of the ID document and a date of expiry for the ID document.

20. The system of claim 12 , wherein upon verifying the ID document by using at least one of NFC chip authentication and optical authentication, the ID document is logically associated to the computing device.

21. The system of claim 12 , the method further comprising:

based on a determination that the ID document includes the NFC chip, selecting NFC chip authentication for verification of the ID document.

22. The system of claim 12 , the method further comprising:

based on a determination that the ID document does not include the NFC chip, selecting optical authentication for verification of the ID document.
