Abstract

Apparatus and associated methods relate to a water-resistant capture device for enclosing wired electro-magnetic components, the capture device having a base module and a connecting cap module, wherein when the base module and cap module enclose an electro-magnetic component and the base module is connected to the cap module, one or more electric wires are compressed within deformable wire apertures formed by the combined base module and cap module. In some embodiments, the base module is deformable and deforms when affixed to the cap module so as to form a compressive water-resistant seal to an interior of the capture device. In an exemplary embodiment, an LED may be captured within the capture device. The cap module may provide a compressing aperture to provide a water resistant seal around the lens of a LED projecting therethrough.

Claims (40)

1. A water-resistant LED device comprising:

a light-emitting device;

at least two insulated conductors coupled to the light-emitting device to supply electrical energy to the light-emitting device;

a base module; and,

a cap module configured to assemble to the base module, wherein an internal cavity is formed between the cap module and the base module when the cap module is assembled to and protrudes into the base module; and,

a sealant disposed within the internal cavity in a fluid form,

wherein:

the internal cavity is configured to receive the light-emitting device therein, the cap module providing an optical path from the received light-emitting device to an outside of the internal cavity,

the light-emitting device receives electrical energy, via the at least two insulated conductors, from the outside through two lumens extending along longitudinal axes of the base module, and

when the base module is assembled to the cap module, the base module separates the at least two insulated conductors such that at least the base module, the cap module, and the sealant cooperate to form at least one continuous water-resistant seal such that at least a portion of the sealant is disposed between and around electrical connections of the at least two insulated conductors within the internal cavity.

2. The water-resistant LED device of claim 1 , wherein the base module comprises a plug configured to be assembled into the cap module.

3. The water-resistant LED device of claim 2 , wherein assembly of the plug into the cap module results in compression that contains the sealant within the internal cavity.

4. The water-resistant LED device of claim 2 , wherein assembly of the plug into the cap module contains the sealant within the internal cavity.

5. The water-resistant LED device of claim 1 , wherein the cap module comprises a lampholder.

6. The water-resistant LED device of claim 5 , comprising a lens coupled to the lampholder, wherein the lens is configured to at least partially provide the optical path from the received light-emitting device to the outside of the internal cavity.

7. The water-resistant LED device of claim 1 , wherein the base module comprises threads and the cap module comprises complementary threads configured to mate with the threads of the base module.

8. The water-resistant LED device of claim 2 , wherein the cap module comprises a husk.

9. The water-resistant LED device of claim 1 , wherein assembling the base module to the cap module results in compression that provides a first water-resistant seal of the at least one continuous water-resistant seal.

10. The water-resistant LED device of claim 1 , wherein the two lumens each extend longitudinally through at least a portion of the base module, each of the two lumens being configured to provide a pathway for an insulated conductor from the outside of the water-resistant LED device to the internal cavity to supply the electrical energy to the light-emitting device therein.

11. The water-resistant LED device of claim 1 , wherein assembling the cap module to the base module introduces a radial compression that forms water-resistant seals, of the at least one continuous water-resistant seal, circumscribing each of the at least two insulated conductors in the two lumens such that the at least one continuous water-resistant seal substantially seals the internal cavity.

12. The water-resistant LED device of claim 1 , wherein the base module further comprises an annular ring projecting from a surface of the base module.

13. The water-resistant LED device of claim 1 , wherein the base module is configured to split at least partially along a plane that is substantially coplanar with an axis of each of the two lumens.

14. The water-resistant LED device of claim 1 , wherein the base module comprises two substantially equally sized halves configured to split along a plane that is substantially coplanar with axes of each of the two lumens.

15. The water-resistant LED device of claim 1 , wherein the base module comprises a deformable sealing member at least partially defining the two lumens.

16. A lighting apparatus comprising:

an LED module coupled to at least two insulated conductors;

a light enclosure comprising a base module protruded into and coupled to a cap module such that an internal cavity is formed between the cap module and the base module, and two lumens extending longitudinally into the light enclosure, wherein the light enclosure is configured to receive the LED module therein, the cap module providing an optical path from the received LED module to an outside of the light enclosure, and the base module separates the at least two insulated conductors within the internal cavity of the light enclosure; and,

a sealant disposed within the internal cavity in a fluid form such that at least one continuous water-resistant seal is formed surrounding at least a portion of the base module, the LED module, and the at least two insulated conductors, wherein the sealant surrounds electrical connections of the at least two insulated conductors to the LED module.

17. The lighting apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the cap module comprises a lampholder.

18. The lighting apparatus of claim 17 , wherein the cap module comprises a lens coupled to the lampholder.

19. The lighting apparatus of claim 16 , wherein the two lumens each extend longitudinally through at least a portion of the base module, such that each of the two lumens are configured to provide a pathway for an insulated conductor from the outside of the light enclosure to the internal cavity to supply electrical energy to the LED module therein.

20. The lighting apparatus of claim 16 , wherein assembling the cap module to the base module introduces a radial compression that forms a seal, of the at least one continuous water-resistant seal, circumscribing each of the at least two insulated conductors in the two lumens such that the at least one continuous water-resistant seal substantially seals the internal cavity.
