Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a communication method and system for converging a 5 th Generation (5G) communication system for supporting higher data rates beyond a 4 th -Generation (4G) system with a technology for Internet of Things (IoT). The present disclosure may be applied to intelligent services based on the 5G communication technology and the IoT-related technology, such as smart home, smart building, smart city, smart car, connected car, health care, digital education, smart retail, security and safety services. The present disclosure discloses a method and apparatus for coverage enhancement for physical downlink control channel in a wireless communication system.

Claims (55)

1. A method performed by a terminal in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

receiving, from a base station, configuration information on a control resource set (CORESET) via a radio resource control (RRC) signaling, the configuration information including a plurality of transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states for the CORESET;

receiving, from the base station, an activation command for activating two TCI states for the CORESET among the plurality of TCI states via a medium access control-control element (MAC CE) signaling; and

receiving, from the base station, two physical downlink control channels (PDCCHs) in the CORESET,

wherein demodulation reference signal (DMRS) ports of the two PDCCHs in the CORESET is quasi co-located with reference signals of the two TCI states for the CORESET, and

wherein the method further comprises:

identifying an identifier for configuring PDCCH repetitions to a first search space set and a second search space set; and

receiving same downlink control information (DCI) based on a first PDCCH monitoring occasion corresponding to the first search space set and a second PDCCH monitoring occasion corresponding to the second search space set, as a response to an index of the first PDCCH monitoring occasion being identical to an index of the second PDCCH monitoring occasion.

2. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the activation command includes an identifier of the CORESET and identifiers of the two TCI states.

3. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein the CORESET is associated with a plurality of PDCCH monitoring occasions, and

wherein each of the plurality of PDCCH monitoring occasions corresponds to a different beam identified based on each of the two TCI states.

4. A terminal in a wireless communication system, the terminal comprising:

a transceiver; and

a controller coupled with the transceiver and configured to:

receive, from a base station, configuration information on a control resource set (CORESET) via a radio resource control (RRC) signaling, the configuration information including a plurality of transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states for the CORESET,

receive, from the base station, an activation command for activating two TCI states for the CORESET among the plurality of TCI states via a medium access control-control element (MAC CE) signaling, and

receive, from the base station, two physical downlink control channels (PDCCHs) in the CORESET,

wherein demodulation reference signal (DMRS) ports of the two PDCCHs in the CORESET is quasi co-located with reference signals of the two TCI states for the CORESET, and

wherein the controller is further configured to:

identify an identifier for configuring PDCCH repetitions to a first search space set and a second search space set, and

receive same downlink control information (DCI) based on a first PDCCH monitoring occasion corresponding to the first search space set and a second PDCCH monitoring occasion corresponding to the second search space set, as a response to an index of the first PDCCH monitoring occasion being identical to an index of the second PDCCH monitoring occasion.

5. The terminal of claim 4 , wherein the activation command includes an identifier of the CORESET and identifiers of the two TCI states.

6. The terminal of claim 4 ,

wherein the CORESET is associated with a plurality of PDCCH monitoring occasions, and

wherein each of the plurality of PDCCH monitoring occasions corresponds to a different beam identified based on each of the two TCI states.

7. A method performed by a base station in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

transmitting, to a terminal, configuration information on a control resource set (CORESET) via a radio resource control (RRC) signaling, the configuration information including a plurality of transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states for the CORESET;

transmitting, to the terminal, an activation command for activating two TCI states for the CORESET among the plurality of TCI states via a medium access control-control element (MAC CE) signaling; and

transmitting, to the terminal, two physical downlink control channels (PDCCHs) in the CORESET,

wherein demodulation reference signal (DMRS) ports of the two PDCCHs in the CORESET is quasi co-located with reference signals of the two TCI states for the CORESET, and

wherein the method further comprises:

transmitting, to the terminal, information on an identifier for configuring PDCCH repetitions to a first search space set and a second search space set; and

transmitting, to the terminal, same downlink control information (DCI) based on a first PDCCH monitoring occasion corresponding to the first search space set and a second PDCCH monitoring occasion corresponding to the second search space set, as a response to an index of the first PDCCH monitoring occasion being identical to an index of the second PDCCH monitoring occasion.
