Abstract

An example method for outputting a PID filter list (PFL) includes: receiving RO data from one or more ROs that indicate particular vehicle identifying information (PVII), at least one symptom identifier, and a particular vehicle component; determining, symptom-to-parameter-identifier (PID) mapping data (MD) based on the received RO data and component-to-PID MD; determining, based on the set of available PIDs for the SOV and the symptom-to-PID MD, a PFL, wherein the PFL is associated with the PVII and the at least one symptom identifier, and wherein the PFL indicates a symptom-based subset of PIDs from the set of available PIDs for the SOV; receiving, a request sent over a communication network from a display device, wherein the request comprises the PVII and the at least one symptom identifier; and transmitting, over the communication network to the display device, a response to the request, the response comprising the PFL.

receiving, at the computing system, a request sent over a communication network from a display device, wherein the request comprises the vehicle identifying information;

retrieving, by the computing system based on the vehicle identifying information, the diagnostic filter list; and

transmitting, by the computing system over the communication network to the display device, a response to the request, wherein the response to the request comprises the diagnostic filter list.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the tests include component tests and/or functional tests.

3. The method according to claim 1 ,

wherein the component hierarchy data indicates a system within the vehicle and a component within the system, and

wherein the component hierarchy data includes metadata that indicates which parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures are associated with the component.

4. The method according to claim 3 ,

wherein the component hierarchy data indicates a sub-system within the system, and

wherein the component hierarchy indicates the component is within the sub-system.

5. The method according to claim 3 , wherein the system within the vehicle includes an engine system, an electrical system, an exhaust system, a fuel system, or an intake system.

6. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the subset of parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures includes one or more parameter identifiers and one or more tests from the set of available parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures for the vehicle.

7. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the subset of parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures includes one or more parameter identifiers and one or more reset-procedures from the set of available parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures for the vehicle.

8. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the subset of parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures includes one or more tests and one or more reset-procedures from the set of available parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures for the vehicle.

9. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the subset of parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures includes one or more parameter identifiers, one or more tests, and one or more reset-procedures from the set of available parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures for the vehicle.

10. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the vehicle identifying information comprises a vehicle manufacturer identifier, and (i) at least one vehicle model year identifier and at least one vehicle model identifier, or (ii) at least one vehicle model year identifier, at least one vehicle model identifier, and at least one engine identifier.

11. A computing system comprising:

a network communication interface for communicating with a display device over a communication network; and

a processor coupled to the network communication interface and programmed to:

receive component hierarchy data corresponding to a vehicle associated with vehicle identifying information, and data indicating a set of available parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures for the vehicle;

determine, based on the component hierarchy data and the set of available parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures for the vehicle, a diagnostic filter list, wherein the diagnostic filter list indicates a subset of parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures from the set of available parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures for the vehicle, and wherein the diagnostic filter list is associated with the vehicle identifying information;

receive a request sent over a communication network from a display device, wherein the request comprises the vehicle identifying information;

retrieve, based on the vehicle identifying information, the diagnostic filter list; and

transmit, by the computing system over the communication network to the display device, a response to the request, wherein the response to the request comprises the diagnostic filter list.

12. The computing system according to claim 11 , wherein the tests include component tests and/or functional tests.

13. The computing system according to claim 11 ,

wherein the component hierarchy data indicates a system within the vehicle and a component within the system, and

wherein the component hierarchy data includes metadata that indicates which parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures are associated with the component.

14. The computing system according to claim 13 ,

wherein the component hierarchy data indicates a sub-system within the system, and

wherein the component hierarchy indicates the component is within the sub-system.

15. The computing system according to claim 13 , wherein the system within the vehicle includes an engine system, an electrical system, an exhaust system, a fuel system, or an intake system.

16. The computing system according to claim 11 , wherein the subset of parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures includes one or more parameter identifiers and one or more tests from the set of available parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures for the vehicle.

17. The computing system according to claim 11 , wherein the subset of parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures includes one or more parameter identifiers and one or more reset-procedures from the set of available parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures for the vehicle.

18. The computing system according to claim 11 , wherein the subset of parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures includes one or more tests and one or more reset-procedures from the set of available parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures for the vehicle.

19. The computing system according to claim 11 , wherein the subset of parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures includes one or more parameter identifiers, one or more tests, and one or more reset-procedures from the set of available parameter identifiers, tests, or reset-procedures for the vehicle.
