SPRINKLER HEAD ADAPTER
A two member plastic pipe fitting adapter for installing a threaded sprinkler head. The members are coupled together to form a chamber for housing an annular gasket. The gasket chamber includes an expansion void and bearing surfaces for the gasket. The adapter includes a receptacle with an internal thread for engagement with a sprinkler head to load the gasket and form a fluid tight seal. The engagement between the sprinkler and the adapter is formed by dissimilar threads to minimize the outward radial forces on the adapter.

57 . A sprinkler adapter, comprising:
an inlet;
an outlet; and
an internal passageway extending between the inlet and the outlet, the internal passageway comprising a gasket chamber, the gasket chamber comprising a first gasket bearing surface extending from the internal passageway, a second gasket bearing surface spaced from the first gasket bearing surface, and a wall extending between the first gasket bearing surface and the second gasket bearing surface, the first gasket bearing surface comprising a skewed portion extending radially outward from the internal passageway towards the inlet, the first gasket bearing surface comprising a curved or radiused portion extending from the skewed portion to the wall.
58 . The sprinkler adapter of claim 57 , comprising:
a first member comprising the inlet; an
a second member comprising the outlet.
59 . The sprinkler adapter of claim 57 , comprising:
the skewed portion extends along a direction at an angle to an axis through the internal passageway.
60 . The sprinkler adapter of claim 57 , comprising:
a first member comprising the inlet and the first gasket bearing surface; and
a second member comprising the outlet and the second gasket bearing surface.
61 . The sprinkler adapter of claim 57 , comprising:
a gasket sized to be spaced from the first gasket bearing surface in a first state and to expand towards the first gasket bearing surface in a second state of fluid flow through the internal passageway.
62 . The sprinkler adapter of claim 57 , comprising:
an internal straight thread formed between the second gasket bearing surface and the outlet.
63 . The sprinkler adapter of claim 57 , comprising:
a gasket sized to be received between the first gasket surface and the second gasket surface, the gasket comprising an inner diameter less than an inner diameter of the internal passageway.
64 . A sprinkler adapter, comprising:
a first end;
a second end; and
an internal passageway extending between the first end and the second end, the internal passageway comprising a gasket chamber, the gasket chamber comprising a first gasket bearing surface extending from the internal passageway, a second gasket bearing surface spaced from the first gasket bearing surface, and a wall extending between the first gasket bearing surface and the second gasket bearing surface, the first gasket bearing surface comprising a first portion extending radially outward from the internal passageway towards the first end, the first gasket bearing surface comprising a second, curved or radiused portion extending from the first portion to the wall.
65 . The sprinkler adapter of claim 64 , comprising:
a first member comprising the first end; an
a second member coupled with the first member, the second member comprising the second end.
66 . The sprinkler adapter of claim 64 , comprising:
the second portion extends along a direction at a skewed angle to an axis through the internal passageway.
67 . The sprinkler adapter of claim 64 , comprising:
a first member comprising the first end and the first gasket bearing surface; and
a second member comprising the second end and the second gasket bearing surface.
68 . The sprinkler adapter of claim 64 , comprising:
a gasket sized to be spaced from the first gasket bearing surface in a first state and to expand towards the first gasket bearing surface in a second state of fluid flow through the internal passageway.
69 . The sprinkler adapter of claim 64 , comprising:
an internal straight thread formed between the second gasket bearing surface and the second end.
70 . The sprinkler adapter of claim 64 , comprising:
a gasket sized to be received between the first gasket surface and the second gasket surface, the gasket comprising an inner diameter less than an inner diameter of the internal passageway.
71 . A sprinkler adapter, comprising:
an inlet;
an outlet; and
an internal passageway extending between the inlet and the outlet, the internal passageway comprising a gasket chamber, the gasket chamber comprising a first gasket bearing surface extending from the internal passageway, a second gasket bearing surface spaced from the first gasket bearing surface, and a wall extending between the first gasket bearing surface and the second gasket bearing surface, the first gasket bearing surface comprising a first portion extending radially outward at a skewed angle from an axis through the internal passageway, the first gasket bearing surface comprising a second, curved or radiused portion extending from the first portion to the wall.
72 . The sprinkler adapter of claim 71 , comprising:
a first member comprising the inlet; an
a second member coupled with the first member, the second member comprising the outlet.
73 . The sprinkler adapter of claim 71 , comprising:
a first member comprising the inlet and the first gasket bearing surface; and
a second member comprising the outlet and the second gasket bearing surface.
74 . The sprinkler adapter of claim 71 , comprising:
a gasket sized to be spaced from the first gasket bearing surface in a first state and to expand towards the first gasket bearing surface in a second state of fluid flow through the internal passageway.
75 . The sprinkler adapter of claim 71 , comprising:
an internal straight thread formed between the second gasket bearing surface and the second end.
76 . The sprinkler adapter of claim 71 , comprising:
a gasket sized to be received between the first gasket surface and the second gasket surface, the gasket comprising an inner diameter less than an inner diameter of the internal passageway.
