4-star base for a chair

The example base for the chair includes a central support coupled to a seat of the chair, a first pair of legs extending radially from the central support, and a second pair of legs extending radially from the central support. The first pair of legs extend in a direction opposite the second pair of legs. A first angle between the first pair of legs is larger than a second angle between the second pair of legs. Respective legs of each of the first pair of legs and the second pair of legs are rotationally fixed relative to the seat of the chair.
1. A base for a chair comprising:
a non-rotating support to be coupled to a seat of the chair;
a leg assembly comprising:
a first pair of legs extending from the support, the first pair of legs defining an area under a front of the chair in which a user may position their feet; and
a second pair of legs extending from the support in a direction opposite the first pair of legs, wherein a first angle between the first pair of legs is larger than a second angle between the second pair of legs; and
a locking feature provided on the support to rotationally fix the leg assembly to the support.
2. The base for a chair as defined in claim 1 , wherein the first angle is equal to or greater than 90 degrees.
3. The base for a chair as defined in claim 1 , wherein the second angle is equal to or less than 90 degrees.
4. The base for a chair as defined in claim 1 , wherein the first pair of legs has a first length and the second pair of legs has a second length, wherein the first length is longer than the second length.
5. The base for a chair as defined in claim 1 , further comprising casters coupled to ends of each of the legs.
6. The base for a chair as defined in claim 1 , wherein respective legs of each of the first pair of legs and the second pair of legs are rotationally fixed relative to the seat of the chair.
7. A base comprising:
a central support;
a leg assembly comprising:
a first pair of legs extending from the central support, each respective leg of the first pair of legs extending substantially toward a respective front corner of a seat; and
a second pair of legs extending from the central support, each respective leg of the second pair of legs extending substantially toward a respective rear corner of the seat, wherein the first pair of legs defines a first angle, the second pair of legs defines a second angle, and the first angle is greater than the second angle;
a locking feature provided on the central support to rotationally fix the leg assembly to the central support; and
casters coupled to ends of each of the respective legs.
8. The base as defined in claim 7 , wherein the locking feature includes:
a key provided on the central support; and
a recess to receive the key and configured to prevent rotation of the first pair of legs and the second pair of legs relative to the central support.
9. The base as defined in claim 7 , wherein respective legs of each of the first pair of legs and the second pair of legs are rotationally fixed relative to the central support.
10. The base as defined in claim 9 , wherein the central support is rotationally fixed relative to the seat.
11. The base as defined in claim 7 , wherein the first angle is obtuse.
12. The base as defined in claim 11 , wherein the first angle is preferably between 100 and 115 degrees.
13. The base as defined in claim 7 , wherein the second angle is acute.
14. The base as defined in claim 13 , wherein the second angle is preferably between 75 and 85 degrees.
15. The base as defined in claim 7 , wherein the first pair of legs are a first length and the second pair of legs are a second length, wherein the first length is longer than the second length.
16. A seating device comprising:
a non-rotating support to be coupled to a seat; and
a leg assembly coupled to the non-rotating support, the leg assembly including a pair of legs defining an area under a front of the seating device, wherein an angle between the pair of the legs is at least 90 degrees, and the leg assembly is rotationally fixed relative to the non-rotating support by way of a positive locking feature.
17. The seating device as defined in claim 16 , wherein the pair of the legs is a first pair of legs, wherein the leg assembly further includes a second pair of legs extending in a direction opposite the first pair of legs, wherein a second angle between the second pair of legs is acute.
18. The seating device as defined in claim 17 , wherein the second angle is preferably between 75 and 85 degrees.
19. The seating device as defined in claim 17 , wherein the first pair of legs has a first length, the second pair of legs has a second length, and the first length is longer than the second length.
20. The seating device as defined in claim 16 , wherein the positive locking feature includes:
a key provided on the non-rotating support; and
a recess to receive the key and being provided on the leg assembly.
21. The seating device as defined in claim 16 , further comprising casters coupled to ends of each of the legs.
22. The seating device as defined in claim 16 , wherein the angle between the pair of legs is preferably between 100 and 115 degrees.
23. The base for a chair as defined in claim 1 , wherein the locking feature includes:
a key provided on the support; and
a recess to receive the key and configured to prevent rotation of the first pair of legs and the second pair of legs relative to the support.
