Abstract

To monitor and report road quality, a server device is configured to receive, from a plurality of vehicles, respective reports, each of the reports indicating a geographic road location of a vehicle and a road quality indication for the geographic location; update, using the reports, a table correlating geographic road locations and road quality indications; determine average road quality indicia for a geographic road location, based on the road quality indications in the table; and in response to a query from a communication device, provide the communication device with an information update based on at least the average road quality indicia.

Claims (36)

1. A method for monitoring and reporting road quality by a server device comprising an electronic circuit, the method comprising the steps of:

receiving, from a plurality of vehicles, respective reports, each of the reports indicating a geographic road location of a vehicle and a road quality indication for the geographic location;

updating, using the reports, a table correlating geographic road locations and road quality indications;

determining average road quality indicia for a geographic road location, based on the road quality indications in the table; and

in response to a query from a communication device, providing the communication device with an information update based on at least the average road quality indicia.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the information update includes an updated navigation route.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the information update includes an updated map.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the information update includes an updated road quality indication algorithm.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the information update includes the average road quality indicia.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein each of the reports further indicates a route the corresponding vehicle is currently traveling.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein each of the reports further includes raw sensor data.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein each of the reports further indicates a make and a model of the corresponding vehicle.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein each of the reports further indicates a date corresponding to the road quality indication.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the query requests the information update based on at least one of:

the road quality indication,

a calibration factor for the vehicle, or

a calibration factor for the geographic location.

11. A server device comprising:

an electronic circuit, and

a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing thereon a computer program for analyzing road quality information, the computer program configured to cause the computer to perform the steps of:

receiving, from a plurality of vehicles, respective reports, each of the reports indicating a geographic road location of a vehicle and a road quality indication for the geographic location,

updating, using the reports, a table correlating geographic road locations and road quality indications,

determining average road quality indicia for a geographic road location, based on the road quality indications in the table, and

in response to a query from a communication device, providing the communication device with an information update based on at least the average road quality indicia.

12. The server device of claim 11 , wherein the information update includes an updated navigation route.

13. The server device of claim 11 , wherein the information update includes an updated map.

14. The server device of claim 11 , wherein the information update includes an updated road quality indication algorithm.

15. The server device of claim 11 , wherein the information update includes the average road quality indicia.

16. The server device of claim 11 , wherein each of the reports further indicates a route the corresponding vehicle is currently traveling.

17. The server device of claim 11 , wherein each of the reports further includes raw sensor data.

18. The server device of claim 11 , wherein each of the reports further indicates a make and a model of the corresponding vehicle.

19. The server device of claim 11 , wherein each of the reports further indicates a date corresponding to the road quality indication.

20. The server device of claim 11 , wherein the query requests the information update based on at least one of:

the road quality indication,

a calibration factor for the vehicle, or

a calibration factor for the geographic location.
