Abstract

A stabilization system for a building includes a stabilization assembly configured to couple to a floor structure of a building. The stabilization assembly includes a track defining a track path, a weight slidably coupled to the track, and an actuator configured to move the weight along the track path.

Claims (52)

1. A stabilization system for a building, the stabilization system comprising:

a stabilization assembly configured to couple to a floor structure of a building, the stabilization assembly including:

a rotatable platform;

a track coupled to the rotatable platform, the track defining a track path;

a weight slidably coupled to the track; a tensile member engaging a drive wheel coupled to the weight;

at least tow actuators configured to

rotate the rotatable platform in a first direction and a second direction, and

move the weight along the track path in a third direction and a fourth direction;

at least one sensor configured to acquire measurement data relating to a seismic event; and

a controller configured to:

determine a target response of the stabilization assembly that mitigates an effect of the seismic event on the building based on the measurement data, and

control the at least two actuators to

rotate the rotatable platform in at least one of the first direction or the second direction, and

move the weight along the track path in at least one of the third direction or the fourth direction

 according to the target response.

2. The stabilization system of claim 1 , wherein the first direction is clockwise and the second direction is counterclockwise.

3. The stabilization system of claim 2 , wherein the third direction is opposite to the fourth direction.

4. The stabilization system of claim 1 , wherein the third direction is opposite to the fourth direction.

5. The stabilization system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sensor comprises a plurality of sensors.

6. The stabilization system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sensor comprises a plurality of sensors.

7. The stabilization system of claim 1 , wherein the at least two actuators comprise a first actuator configured to rotate the rotatable platform in the first direction and the second direction.

8. The stabilization system of claim 7 , wherein the at least two actuators comprise a second actuator configured to move the weight in the third direction and the fourth direction.

9. The stabilization system of claim 1 , wherein the at least two actuators comprise at least one motor.

10. The stabilization system of claim 1 , wherein the at least two actuators comprise a first plurality of actuators configured to rotate the rotatable platform in the first direction and the second direction.

11. The stabilization system of claim 10 , wherein the at least two actuators comprise a second plurality actuators configured to move the weight in the third direction and the fourth direction.

12. The stabilization system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sensor comprises at least one weight sensor.

13. The stabilization system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sensor is configured to acquire measurement data relating to movement of the weight.

14. The stabilization system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sensor comprises at least a first sensor and a second sensor,

wherein the first sensor is configured to be positioned at a first angular position relative to the building, and

wherein the second sensor is configured to be positioned at a second angular position relative to the building that is different from the first angular position.

15. The stabilization system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sensor is configured to acquire measurement data relating to acceleration.

16. The stabilization system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sensor is configured to acquire measurement data relating to acceleration of the weight.

17. A building, comprising:

a floor structure; and

a stabilization assembly configured coupled to the floor structure, the stabilization assembly including:

a rotatable platform;

a track coupled to the rotatable platform, the track defining a track path;

a weight slidably coupled to the track; a tensile member engaging a drive wheel coupled to the weight;

at least two actuators configured to

rotate the rotatable platform in a first direction and a second direction, and

move the weight along the track path in a third direction and a fourth direction;

at least one sensor configured to acquire measurement data relating to a seismic event; and

a controller configured to:

determine a target response of the stabilization assembly that mitigates an effect of the seismic event on the building based on the measurement data, and

control the at least two actuators to

rotate the rotatable platform in at least one of the first direction or the second direction, and

move the weight along the track path in at least one of the third direction or the fourth direction

 according to the target response.

18. The building of claim 17 , wherein the first direction is clockwise and the second direction is counterclockwise, and

wherein the third direction is opposite to the fourth direction.

19. The building of claim 17 , wherein the at least two actuators comprise at least a first actuator configured to rotate the rotatable platform in the first direction and the second direction.

20. The building of claim 19 , wherein the at least two actuators comprise at least a second actuator configured to move the weight in the third direction and the fourth direction.
