Abstract

An example method for managing wake schedules of client devices is presented. A wireless networking device determines a value of a data traffic characteristic of a client device based on monitoring of data traffic associated with the client device. If it is determined that the client device is capable of implementing the TWT mechanism, the wireless networking device may set a wake schedule for the client device based on the value of the data traffic characteristic. Once the wake schedule is set, the wireless networking device communicates with the client device as per the wake schedule. In some examples, the wireless networking device may set custom wake schedules for different client devices when the client devices have different behaviors for the same data traffic characteristic. Further, in certain examples, the wireless networking device may even set custom wake schedules for different activity periods for the same client device.

The method of claim 3 , wherein the first TWT session negotiated as per a restricted TWT (R-TWT) technique specified in the IEEE 802.11be Specification responsive to determining that the first client device supports the R-TWT technique, and the second TWT session negotiated as per the R-TWT technique responsive to determining that the second client device supports the R-TWT technique.

10 . A method comprising:

determining, by a wireless networking device, a first value of a data traffic characteristic corresponding to a client device;

setting, for the client device by the wireless networking device, a first wake schedule for the first-period based on the first value;

communicating, by the wireless networking device, with the client device per the first wake schedule during the first-period;

determining, by the wireless networking device, a second value of the data traffic characteristic corresponding to the client device, wherein the second value is different than the first value;

determining, for a second-period and based on the second value, whether the client device is capable of implementing the TWT mechanism;

setting, for the client device by the wireless networking device, a second wake schedule for the second-period based on the second value, wherein the second wake schedule is different than the first wake schedule; and
