Abstract

Systems/methods are disclosed wherein an auxiliary device is attached to a person and is configured to function in cooperation with a smartphone that is used by the person. According to some embodiments, the auxiliary device is configured to perform monitoring or measurements and to convey information to the smartphone comprising results of the monitoring or measurements responsive to a proximity condition between the auxiliary device and the smartphone being satisfied, responsive to having received a signal at the auxiliary device from the smartphone and/or responsive to an identity of the smartphone having been recognized by the auxiliary device. The auxiliary device is further configured to cause the smartphone to augment/append the information that is conveyed thereto with additional data, in accordance with a predetermined arrangement, and to cause said information and said additional data to appear in a predetermined order.

8. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the auxiliary device is further configured to wirelessly convey the information to the smartphone using an unlicensed band of frequencies and/or a Bluetooth technology responsive to a proximity condition of less than 10 feet between the auxiliary device and the smartphone being satisfied, responsive to having received a signal at the auxiliary device from the smartphone and responsive to an identity of the smartphone having been recognized by the auxiliary device.

9. The system according to claim 1 ,

wherein the auxiliary device comprises a first auxiliary device that is configured to wirelessly communicate with the smartphone using a first technology; and

wherein the auxiliary device further comprises a second auxiliary device, that is different from the first auxiliary device, and is configured to wirelessly communicate with the smartphone using a second technology;

wherein said wireless communicate comprises wirelessly transmit and/or wirelessly receive.

10. The system according to claim 9 ,

wherein each one of said first technology and second technology is configured to wirelessly communicate with the smartphone using an unlicensed band of frequencies and/or a Bluetooth technology.

11. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the auxiliary device is further configured to perform operations comprising:

establishing a wireless link with the smartphone and then transmitting data to the smartphone using an unlicensed band of frequencies and/or a Bluetooth technology responsive to a proximity condition of less than 10 feet between the auxiliary device and the smartphone being satisfied, responsive to receiving a signal at the auxiliary device from the smartphone and responsive to an identity of the smartphone being recognized by the auxiliary device;

wherein the wireless link that is established is based on an unlicensed band of frequencies and/or a Bluetooth technology.

12. The system according to claim 1 , wherein the auxiliary device comprises processing circuitry, memory, communications circuitry and an antenna.

13. The system according to claim 1 , further comprising the smartphone.

14. The system according to claim 13 , wherein the auxiliary device is integrated with the smartphone.

15. The system according to claim 14 , wherein said integrated comprises wirelessly connected.

16. The system according to claim 13 , wherein the smartphone comprises processing circuitry, memory, communications circuitry, and an antenna.

17. The system according to claim 16 , wherein the smartphone further comprises a multiline display, Internet/Intranet access, Web browser and a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver.

18. The system according to claim 13 ,

wherein the smartphone is configured to wirelessly communicate with a first auxiliary device using a first technology; and

wherein the smartphone is further configured to wirelessly communicate with a second auxiliary device, that differs from the first auxiliary device, using a second technology;

wherein said wirelessly communicate comprises wirelessly transmit and/or wirelessly receive.

19. The system according to claim 18 ,

wherein the smartphone is configured to wirelessly communicate with the first auxiliary device and, concurrently in time with the smartphone wirelessly communicating with the first auxiliary device, the smartphone is further configured to wirelessly communicate with the second auxiliary device.

20. The system according to claim 18 ,

wherein, over a first interval of time, the smartphone is configured to wirelessly communicate with the first auxiliary device; and

wherein, over a second interval of time that differs from the first interval of time, the smartphone is further configured to wirelessly communicate with the second auxiliary device.

21. The system according to claim 20 ,

wherein, over the first interval of time, the smartphone is configured to wirelessly communicate with the first auxiliary device using an unlicensed band of frequencies and/or a Bluetooth technology; and

wherein, over the second interval of time that differs from the first interval of time, the smartphone is further configured to wirelessly communicate with the second auxiliary device using an unlicensed band of frequencies and/or a Bluetooth technology.

22. A method of using an auxiliary device that is attached to a person in cooperation with a smartphone that is used by the person; the method comprising:

performing monitoring or measurements by the auxiliary device;

conveying information to the smartphone by the auxiliary device comprising results of the monitoring or measurements; and

causing the smartphone to augment/append the information that is conveyed thereto by the auxiliary device with additional data, in accordance with a predetermined arrangement, and causing said information and said additional data to appear in a predetermined order.

23. The method according to claim 22 , wherein said predetermined order comprises providing at least some of said additional data at an end of said information, beyond the end of said information and/or prior to the end of said information.
