Abstract

Systems, including remote station systems, and methods for remotely controlling a vehicle are provided. The remote station system may comprise a transmitter configured to receive one or more data points generated by one or more sensors coupled to a vehicle and, from the vehicle, a trajectory of the vehicle. The remote station system may comprise a display configured to display the one or more data points generated by the one or more sensors and display the trajectory of the vehicle. The remote station system may comprise one or more remote actuation controls configured generate one or more driving actions. The one or more driving actions may correlate to one or more actuator commands configured to cause the vehicle to perform the one or more driving actions. The transmitter may be configured to transmit the one or more driving actions to the vehicle.

Claims (66)

1 . A remote station system for remotely controlling a vehicle, comprising:

a transmitter configured to receive:

one or more data points generated by one or more sensors coupled to a vehicle; and

from the vehicle, a trajectory of the vehicle;

a display configured to:

display the one or more data points generated by the one or more sensors;

display the trajectory of the vehicle; and

one or more remote actuation controls configured generate one or more driving actions,

wherein the one or more driving actions correlate to one or more actuator commands configured to cause the vehicle to perform the one or more driving actions; and

wherein the transmitter is configured to transmit the one or more driving actions to the vehicle.

2 . The remote station system of claim 1 , wherein the transmitter is configured to receive label data from the vehicle.

3 . The remote station system of claim 2 , wherein the label data comprises changes in one or more of the following: a speed of the vehicle; and an acceleration of the vehicle.

4 . The remote station system of claim 2 , wherein the display is configured to display the label data as one or more visual cues.

5 . The remote station system of claim 4 , wherein the one or more visual cues comprise one or more of the following: one or more color indicators; blinking text; and one or more flashes.

6 . The remote station system of claim 1 , further comprising a processor configured to perform remote station system control,

wherein the performing the remote station system control comprises:

receiving, via the control module, the one or more driving actions; and

causing the vehicle, via the one or more actuation controls, to perform the one or more driving actions.

7 . The remote station system of claim 1 , wherein:

the one or more sensors comprise:

a Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) sensor; and

a camera, and

the one or more data points comprise:

a LiDAR point cloud generated by the LiDAR sensor; and

an image captured by the camera.

8 . The remote station system of claim 1 , wherein:

the one or more sensors comprise one or more cameras configured to generate one or more images of the environment of the vehicle, and

the display is configured to display the one or more images of the environment of the vehicle.

9 . The remote station system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more actuation controls comprise one or more of:

a brake pedal;

an acceleration pedal;

a gear shift control; and

a steering wheel.

10 . A method for remotely controlling a vehicle, comprising:

using a remote station system:

receiving:

one or more data points generated by one or more sensors coupled to a vehicle; and

from the vehicle, a trajectory of the vehicle;

displaying, using a display:

the one or more data points generated by the one or more sensors;

the trajectory of the vehicle; and

one or more remote actuation controls configured generate one or more driving actions,

wherein the one or more driving actions correlate to one or more actuator commands configured to cause the vehicle to perform the one or more driving actions; and

transmitting the one or more driving actions to the vehicle.

11 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising receiving label data from the vehicle.

12 . The method of claim 11 , wherein the label data comprises changes in one or more of the following: a speed of the vehicle; and an acceleration of the vehicle.

13 . The method of claim 11 , further comprising displaying, using the display, the label data as one or more visual cues.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the one or more visual cues comprise one or more of the following: one or more color indicators; blinking text; and one or more flashes.

15 . The method of claim 10 , further comprising, using a processor, performing remote station system control,

wherein the performing the remote station system control comprises:

receiving, via the control module, the one or more driving actions; and

causing the vehicle, via the one or more actuation controls, to perform the one or more driving actions.

16 . The method of claim 10 , wherein:

the one or more sensors comprise:

a Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) sensor; and

a camera, and

the one or more data points comprise:

a LiDAR point cloud generated by the LiDAR sensor, and

an image captured by the camera.

17 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the one or more sensors comprise one or more cameras configured to generate one or more images of the environment of the vehicle, and further comprising:

displaying, using the display, the one or more images of the environment of the vehicle.

18 . The method of claim 10 , wherein the one or more actuation controls comprise one or more of:

a brake pedal;

an acceleration pedal;

a gear shift control; and

a steering wheel.
