Abstract

Gaming systems that provide an award in association with a play of a card game wherein a playing card is determined via a first determination of a suit of that playing card and a separate second determination of a rank of that playing card.

Claims (33)

1. A method of operating a gaming system, the method comprising:

responsive to an occurrence of a triggering event:

determining, by a processor, a playing card by:

determining a playing card rank, and

independent of the determination of the playing card rank, determining a playing card suit, and

displaying, by a display device, the determined playing card.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the determined playing card comprises a replacement playing card for a hand of playing cards.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the determination of the playing card rank comprises a random determination of the playing card rank.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein a plurality of playing card ranks are associated with a play of a game and the determination of the playing card rank comprises a determination of the playing card rank from a subset of less than each of the plurality of playing card ranks.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the determination of the playing card suit comprises a random determination of the playing card suit.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein a plurality of playing card suits are associated with a play of a game and the determination of the playing card suit comprises a determination of the playing card suit from a subset of less than each of the plurality of playing card suits.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the triggering event comprises a determination that a formed hand of playing cards is associated with a near miss outcome.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the determination of the playing card rank comprises an activation of a playing card rank generator.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the determination of the playing card suit comprises an activation of a playing card suit generator.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein at least one of the playing card rank generator and the playing card suit generator is static over a plurality of plays of a game.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the playing card rank generator and the playing card suit generator comprise concentric wheels.

12. A method of operating a gaming system, the method comprising:

responsive to an occurrence of a triggering event:

determining, by a processor, a playing card by:

determining, in association with a play of a first game, a first characteristic of the playing card, and

determining, in association a separate play of a second game, a second, different characteristic of the playing card, and

displaying, by a display device, the determined playing card.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the first game is different from the second game.

14. The method of claim 12 , wherein the first characteristic of the playing card comprises a playing card rank.

15. The method of claim 14 , wherein the second, different characteristic of the playing card comprises a playing card suit.

16. The method of claim 12 , wherein the determined playing card comprises a replacement playing card for a hand of playing cards.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the hand of playing cards is part of a multi hand poker game.

18. The method of claim 12 , wherein at least one of the play of the first game and the separate play of the second game comprises a receipt, via an input device, of an input, to determine at least one of the first characteristic of the playing card, and the second, different characteristic of the playing card.

19. A method of operating a gaming system, the method comprising:

for a play of a card game:

determining, by a processor, a plurality of playing cards, wherein a playing card of the plurality of playing cards is determined by determining a first characteristic of the playing card, and, independent of the determination of the first characteristic of the playing card, determining a second, different characteristic of the playing card, and

displaying, by a display device, the plurality of playing cards.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein at least two playing cards of the plurality of playing cards are each determined by determining a first characteristic of that playing card, and, independently determining a second, different characteristic of that playing card.
