Abstract

A first device includes a processor and instructions. The instructions, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to configure the first device to receive network credentials; accept a connection request from a second device to connect to the first device; obtain the network credentials from the second device; configure the first device to connect to a third device subsequent to obtaining the network credentials; and transmit a request to connect to the third device, where request includes the network credentials.

Claims (46)

1. A first device including a processor and instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:

configure the first device according to a first configuration or a second configuration, wherein the first configuration configures the first device to be in a station mode when a second device is in an access point mode, and wherein the second configuration configures the first device to be in the access point mode when the second device is in the station mode;

accept a connection request from the second device to connect to the first device;

obtain the network credentials transmitted by the second device;

subsequent to obtaining the network credentials, configure the first device to connect to a third device;

transmit a request to the third device to connect to the third device, wherein the request comprises the network credentials; and

receive, via the third device, a command to control the first device.

2. The first device of claim 1 , wherein the first device is a camera and the second device is a smart device.

3. The first device of claim 1 , wherein the first device is a smart device and the second device is a camera.

4. The first device of claim 1 , wherein to configure the first device to receive the network credentials comprises to:

configure the first device to operate in a communication mode.

5. The first device of claim 4 , wherein the communication mode is such that the first device transmits a beacon signal indicating that the first device accepts requests for connection to the first device.

6. The first device of claim 1 , wherein to configure the first device to receive the network credentials comprises to:

configure the first device to use a Bluetooth wireless connection.

7. The first device of claim 1 , wherein to configure the first device to connect to the third device comprises to:

configure the first device to be in the station mode.

8. The first device of claim 1 , wherein the instructions further comprise instructions, that, when executed by the processor, cause the processor to:

configure power consumption of the first device based on whether the first device is connected to other devices.

9. A method, comprising:

initiating, at a first device, a first mode for receiving network credentials, wherein the first mode is a station mode when a second device is in an access point mode, and wherein the first mode is the access point mode when the second device is in the station mode;

connecting the first device to the second device;

receiving the network credentials from the second device;

shifting, after receiving the network credentials, the first device to a second mode that enables a connection with a third device; and

connecting to the third device via a request to connect to the third device, wherein the request includes the network credentials.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the first device is a component of a camera system.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein a connection between the first device and the second device is established over a secure wireless communication protocol.

12. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

transmitting multimedia content from the first device to the third device upon successful connection establishment between the first device and the third device.

13. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

configuring power consumption of the first device based on whether the first device is connecting to other devices.

14. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

storing the network credentials within the first device for use in subsequent connections with the third device.

15. A non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions operable to cause one or more processors to:

configure a first device according to a configuration selected from a set of configurations consisting of a first configuration and a second configuration, wherein the first configuration configures the first device to be in a station mode when a second device is in an access point mode, and wherein the second configuration configures the first device to be in the access point mode when the second device is in the station mode;

receive, at the first device, network credentials from the second device;

subsequent to receipt of the network credentials, configure the first device to connect to a third device; and

transmit a request to the third device to connect to the third device, wherein the request includes the network credentials.

16. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions are further operable to cause the one or more processors to:

transmit multimedia content from the first device to the third device.

17. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions are further operable to cause the one or more processors to:

configure the first device to operate in a communication mode such that the first device is capable of receiving the network credentials while in the communication mode.

18. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the communication mode is such that the first device transmits a beacon signal indicating that the first device accepts requests for connection to the first device.

19. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions are further operable to cause the one or more processors to:

configure power consumption of the first device based on whether the first device is connected to other devices.

20. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the instructions are further operable to cause the one or more processors to:

store the network credentials within the first device for use in subsequent connections with the third device.
