Abstract

Methods and systems are provided to display a real world event on a client device with avatars. Appropriate parameters for the real world event are provided and participants in the real world event are associated to avatars. As the real world event begins, a server is configured to provide information on the real world event to the client device, and the client device displays a representation of a virtual event using the avatars and the information received from the server.

Claims (70)

1. A virtual event broadcasting system comprising:

at least one non-transitory computer readable memory storing software instructions; and

at least one processor coupled with the at least one memory and, upon execution of the software instructions, performs the following operations:

generating an event identifier representing a real-world event having a plurality of real-world participants;

storing, in a client device memory, one avatar of a virtual environment presentation associated with the event identifier for at least one of the real-world participants;

generating a participant identifier for each of the at least one of the real-world participants;

mapping each participant identifier to a corresponding avatar;

transmitting, to the client device, an event update message related to a change in the real-world event and including at least some of the participant identifiers with movement information for the corresponding real-world participants in the real-world event; and

causing the client device to update the virtual environment presentation related to the real-world event by updating a movement of the corresponding avatar for each of the at least some of the participant identifiers according to their respective movement information.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of real-world participants includes at least one Artificial Intelligence (AI) participant.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the virtual environment presentation comprises an altered time perspective relative to the real-world event.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the altered time perspective comprises at least one of the following: a time expansion, a time shift, a time contraction, a rearranged time, and a dramatic effect.

5. The system of claim 1 , where each participant identifier is mapped to their corresponding avatar via at least one of the following: a pointer, a look up table, a hash table, and a database.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the movement of the corresponding avatar in the virtual environment is proportional to a position of the corresponding real-world participant in the real-world event.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the movement of the corresponding avatar in the virtual environment is proportional to a distance traveled in the real-world event by the corresponding real-world participant.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the event update message further includes an environmental condition for the real-world event.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the virtual environment presentation is updated based on the environmental condition.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the environmental condition comprises a weather condition.

11. The system of claim 1 , wherein the event message update comprises at least one packet sent over a network.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the at least one packet comprises at least one of the following types of data: binary encoded data, JSON encoded data, XML encoded data, and encrypted data.

13. The system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further include synchronizing the virtual environment presentation among multiple client devices including the at least one client device.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the operations further include delaying transmission of the event update message to the at least one client device.

15. The system of claim 13 , wherein the operations further include minimizing latency between the real-world event and the virtual environment presentation.

16. The system of claim 1 , wherein the event update message comprises a real-time message.

17. The system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further include transmitting a session identifier representing a session to the at least one client device.

18. The system of claim 17 , wherein the event identifier represents an event within the session.

19. The system of claim 17 , wherein the event identifier is unique within the session.

20. The system of claim 1 , wherein the event identifier comprises a globally unique identifier.

21. The system of claim 1 , wherein the operations further include restricting access to the real-world event based on a location of the at least one client device.

22. A non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon executable code for execution by a processor of a computing device, the executable code comprising instructions for:

generating an event identifier representing a real-world event having a plurality of real-world participants;

storing, in a client device memory, one avatar of a virtual environment presentation associated with the event identifier for at least one of the real-world participants;

generating a participant identifier for each of the at least one of the real-world participants;

mapping each participant identifier to a corresponding avatar;

transmitting, to the client device, an event update message related to a change in the real-world event and including at least some of the participant identifiers with movement information for the corresponding real-world participants in the real-world event; and

causing the client device to update the virtual environment presentation related to the real-world event by updating a movement of the corresponding avatar for each of the at least some of the participant identifiers according to their respective movement information.

23. A method for broadcasting a virtual event, comprising:

generating an event identifier representing a real-world event having a plurality of real-world participants;

storing, in a client device memory, one avatar of a virtual environment presentation associated with the event identifier for at least one of the real-world participants;

generating a participant identifier for each of the at least one of the real-world participants;

mapping each participant identifier to a corresponding avatar;

transmitting, to the client device, an event update message related to a change in the real-world event and including at least some of the participant identifiers with movement information for the corresponding real-world participants in the real-world event; and

causing the client device to update the virtual environment presentation related to the real-world event by updating a movement of the corresponding avatar for each of the at least some of the participant identifiers according to their respective movement information.

24. A virtual event broadcasting system comprising:

at least one non-transitory computer readable memory storing software instructions; and

at least one processor coupled with the at least one memory and, upon execution of the software instructions, performs the following operations:

receiving a message from a server, the message comprising an event identifier representing a real-world event having a plurality of real-world participants, and information on the plurality of real-world participants;

storing, in the memory, one avatar of a virtual environment presentation associated with the event identifier for at least one of the real-world participants;

receiving a participant identifier for each of the plurality of real-world participants;

mapping each participant identifier to a corresponding avatar;

receiving, from the server, an event update message related to a change in the real-world event and including at least some of the participant identifiers with movement information for the corresponding real-world participants in the real-world event; and

updating the virtual environment presentation related to the real-world event by updating a movement of the corresponding avatar for each of the at least some of the participant identifiers according to their respective movement information.

25. A virtual event broadcasting system comprising:

at least one non-transitory computer readable memory storing software instructions; and

at least one processor coupled with the at least one memory and, upon execution of the software instructions, performs the following operations:

generating an event identifier representing a real-world event having a plurality of real-world participants;

generating a participant identifier for each of the at least one of the real-world participants; and

transmitting, to a client device, an event update message related to a change in the real-world event and including at least some of the participant identifiers with movement information for the corresponding real-world participants in the real-world event;

wherein the event updated message causes the client device to update a virtual environment presentation related to the real-world event by updating a movement of a plurality of avatars corresponding to each of the at least some of the participant identifiers according to their respective movement information.

26. A virtual event broadcasting system comprising:

a server device; and

a client device;

wherein the server device is configured to:

generate an event identifier representing a real-world event having a plurality of real-world participants;

generate a participant identifier for each of the real-world participants; and

transmit, to the client device, an event update message related to a change in the real-world event and including at least some of the participant identifiers with movement information for the corresponding real-world participants in the real-world event; and

wherein the client device is configured to:

store, in the client device memory, an avatar of a virtual environment presentation associated with the event identifier for at least one of the real-world participants;

map each participant identifier to a corresponding avatar;

upon receiving the event update message, update the virtual environment presentation related to the real-world event by updating a movement of the corresponding avatar for each of the at least some of the participant identifiers according to their respective movement information.
