Abstract

A prosthetic heart valve can include a frame defining a central longitudinal axis and a plurality of leaflets. Each leaflet can include: a leaflet free edge, a first leaflet side forming a first leaflet side line of attachment along the frame, a second leaflet side forming a second leaflet side line of attachment along the frame, and a leaflet base forming a leaflet base line of attachment along the frame from an end of the first leaflet side line of attachment to an end of the second leaflet side line of attachment. The first leaflet side line of attachment can form a continuous attachment of the first leaflet side to the frame along an entire extent of the first leaflet side. The second leaflet side line of attachment can form a continuous attachment of the second leaflet side to the frame along an entire extent of the second leaflet side.

5 . The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the frame comprises a plurality of commissure posts.

6 . The prosthetic heart valve of claim 5 , wherein each one of the plurality of commissure posts is coupled to two adjacent ones of the plurality of leaflets.

7 . The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the frame has a tubular shape.

8 . A prosthetic heart valve comprising:

a frame being radially collapsible and expandable between a collapsed configuration and an expanded configuration, wherein the frame includes:

an inflow end;

an outflow end;

a central longitudinal axis; and

a plurality of struts disposed between the inflow end and the outflow end of the frame, wherein the plurality of struts includes first and second angled struts that are angled relative to the central longitudinal axis, and wherein the plurality of struts define an inner circumferential surface of the frame; and

a plurality of leaflets coupled to the frame, wherein each one of the plurality of leaflets includes:

a leaflet free edge configured to abut an adjacent leaflet free edge when the plurality of leaflets transition from an open position to a closed position to stop fluid flow through the prosthetic heart valve;

a first leaflet side forming a first leaflet side line of attachment, wherein the first leaflet side line of attachment is attached to the first angled strut of the plurality of struts, and wherein the first leaflet side line of attachment is configured to remain stationary along the inner circumferential surface of the frame as the plurality of leaflets transition from the open position to the closed position under the influence of a changing pressure differential across the prosthetic heart valve when the prosthetic heart valve is in an implanted state;

a second leaflet side forming a second leaflet side line of attachment, wherein the second leaflet side line of attachment is attached to the second angled strut of the plurality of struts, and wherein the second leaflet side line of attachment is configured to remain stationary along the inner circumferential surface of the frame as the plurality of leaflets transition from the open position to the closed position under the influence of the changing pressure differential across the prosthetic heart valve when the prosthetic heart valve is in the implanted state; and

a leaflet base forming a leaflet base line of attachment that extends along the frame from an end of the first leaflet side line of attachment to an end of the second leaflet side line of attachment, wherein:

the leaflet base line of attachment is coupled to the frame;

the leaflet base line of attachment lies in a plane that is transverse to the central longitudinal axis of the frame,
