Abstract

Methods are described for the commissioning of optically switchable window networks. During commissioning, network addresses are paired with the locations of installed devices for components on a window network. Commissioning may also involve steps of testing and validating the network devices. By correctly pairing the location of a device with its network address, a window network is configured to function such that controls sent over the network reach their targeted device(s) which in turn respond accordingly. The methods described herein may reduce frustrations that result from mispairing and installation issues that are common to conventional commissioning practices. Commissioning may involve recording a response to a manually or automatically initiated trigger. Commissioning methods described herein may rely on user input, or be automatic, not requiring user input.

Claims (48)

1 . A method for mapping one or more panes on a structure, the method comprising:

receiving a first indication from a first pane, wherein the first indication is associated with a first identification (ID) unique to the first pane, wherein the first ID is pre-assigned to the first pane;

receiving a second indication from a second pane, wherein the second indication is associated with a second ID unique to the second pane, wherein the second ID is pre-assigned to the second pane;

2 . A method for mapping one or more panes on a structure, the method comprising:

receiving a first indication from a first pane, wherein the first indication is associated with a first identification (ID) unique to the first pane;

receiving a second indication from a second pane, wherein the second indication is associated with a second ID unique to the second pane;

determining a position of the first pane and the second pane based on receiving the first indication and the second indication by pairing the first ID with a physical location of the first pane and pairing the second ID with a physical location of the second pane, wherein the first indication and the second indication are received using a wireless communication protocol,

wherein determining the position of the first pane and the second pane includes pairing the first ID with a hierarchical position of the first pane within a network and pairing the second ID with a hierarchical position of the second pane within the network.

3 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving a third indication from a third pane, wherein:

the third indication is associated with a third ID unique to the third pane;

determining the position of the first pane and the second pane comprises determining a relative position of the first pane, the second pane, the third pane based on receiving the first indication, the second indication, and the third indication; and

pairing the first ID with a physical location of the first pane and pairing the second ID with a physical location of the second pane comprises mapping the relative position of the first pane to the first ID, the relative position of the second pane to the second ID, and the relative position of the third pane to the third ID.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein:

the first indication comprises a first signal that includes the first ID;

the second indication comprises a second signal;

the third indication comprises a third signal; and

the first signal, the second signal, and the third signal respectively comprise different signals.

5 . The method of claim 4 , wherein the relative position of the first pane is based on a received signal strength of the first signal and a received signal strength of the second signal.

6 . The method of claim 4 , wherein determining the relative position of the first pane is based on a received direction of the first signal including the first indication, a received direction of the second signal including the second indication, and a received direction of the third signal including the third indication.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein determining the positions of the first pane and the second pane is based on a first set of global position system (GPS) coordinates indicating a position of the first pane and a second set of GPS coordinates indicating a position of the second pane.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein:

receiving the first indication from the first pane comprises recording an image of the first pane providing the first indication as a first visible display; and

receiving the second indication from the second pane comprises recording an image of the second pane providing the second indication as a second visible display.

9 . A system for mapping a plurality of panes on a structure, the system comprising: the plurality of panes located at different respective positions on the structure; and at least one processor configured to:

receive a first signal from a first pane of the plurality of panes, wherein the first signal is associated with a first identification (ID) unique to the first pane, wherein the first ID is pre-assigned to the first pane,

receive a second signal from a second pane of the plurality of panes, wherein the second signal is associated with a second ID unique to the second pane, wherein the second ID is pre-assigned to the second pane,

determine a position of the first pane and a position of the second pane based on receiving the first signal and the second signal, by pairing the first ID with a physical location of the first pane and pairing the second ID with a physical location of the second pane, wherein the first signal and the second signal are received using a wireless signal.

10 . The system of claim 9 , wherein least one processor configured to determine the position of the first pane and the second pane by pairing the first ID with a hierarchical position of the first pane within a network and pairing the second ID with a hierarchical position of the second pane within the network.

11 . The system of claim 9 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to:

receive a third signal from a third pane, wherein:

the third signal is associated with a third ID unique to the third pane,

determining the position of the first pane and the second pane comprises determining a relative position of the first pane, the second pane, the third pane based on receiving the first ID, the second ID, and the third ID, and

pairing the first ID with a physical location of the first pane and pairing the second ID with a physical location of the second pane comprises mapping the relative position of the first pane to the first ID, the relative position of the second pane to the second ID, and the relative position of the third pane to the third ID.

12 . The system of claim 11 , wherein:

the first signal includes the first ID, the second signal includes the second ID, the third signal includes the third ID, and

the first signal, the second signal, and the third signal respectively comprise different signals.

13 . A system for mapping a plurality of panes on a structure, the system comprising: the plurality of panes located at different respective positions on the structure; and at least one processor configured to:

receive a single message from a first pane of the plurality of panes, wherein the single message comprises a first indication from the first pane and a second indication based on a signal received by the first pane and from a second pane of the plurality of panes, wherein the first indication is associated with a first identification (ID) unique to the first pane and the second indication is associated with a second ID unique to the second pane, wherein the first ID is pre-assigned to the first pane and the second ID is pre-assigned to the second pane,

pair the first ID with a physical location of the first pane and pair the second ID with a physical location of the second pane, wherein the signal is received using a wireless signal,

determine a position of the first pane relative to a position of the second pane based on: at least one of a received signal strength or a received signal direction of the signal received by the first pane and from the second pane, at least one of a received signal strength or a received signal direction of the signal received by first pane and from a third pane, and at least one of a received signal strength or a received signal direction of the single message received from the first pane, and map the relative position of the first pane to the first ID, and the relative position of the second pane to the second ID.

14 . A system for mapping one or more panes on a structure, the system comprising:
