Abstract

A passive cooling system includes a fan configured to generate an air flow path for a radiator, the air flow path extending from the fan to the radiator and a cooling pipe extended between a turbocharger and an intake manifold, the cooling path positioned in the air flow path between the fan and the radiator.

Claims (32)

1. An engine, comprising:

a turbocharger;

a radiator;

an intake manifold; and

a passive cooling system, comprising:

a fan configured to generate an air flow path through the radiator, the fan rotating about an axis; and

a cooling pipe positioned within the air flow path and coupled to the turbocharger and the intake manifold, the cooling pipe extending below the axis of the fan, wherein the fan moves within a range including a first lateral side and a second lateral side, wherein the cooling pipe comprises an inlet positioned laterally outwardly with respect to the first lateral side, an outlet positioned laterally outwardly with respect to the second lateral side, and a conduit extending laterally from the first lateral side toward the second lateral side without extending back toward the first lateral side.

2. The engine of claim 1 , wherein the cooling pipe comprises an arcuate portion extending below the axis of the fan.

3. The engine of claim 1 , wherein the cooling pipe has a substantially constant diameter.

4. The engine of claim 1 , further comprising:

a controller configured to receive data indicative of an operation of the engine and compare the data indicative of the operation of the engine to a threshold.

5. The engine of claim 4 , wherein the controller is configured to generate a valve command in response to the comparison.

6. The engine of claim 1 , wherein the cooling pipe is free of branches or tees.

7. The engine of claim 1 , wherein the cooling pipe is a predetermined color.

8. An engine, comprising:

a turbocharger;

a radiator;

an intake manifold; and

a passive cooling system, comprising:

a fan configured to generate an air flow path through the radiator, the fan rotating about an axis of rotation; and

a cooling pipe positioned within the air flow path and coupled to the turbocharger and the intake manifold, the cooling pipe having an arcuate portion located within the air flow path, wherein the fan moves within a range including a first lateral side and a second lateral side, wherein the cooling pipe comprises an inlet positioned laterally outwardly with respect to the first lateral side, an outlet positioned laterally outwardly with respect to the second lateral side, and a conduit extending laterally from the first lateral side toward the second lateral side without extending back toward the first lateral side.

9. The engine of claim 8 , wherein the arcuate portion of the cooling pipe extends vertically below the axis of rotation of the fan.

10. The engine of claim 8 , wherein the arcuate portion of the cooling pipe extends circumferentially around the axis of rotation of the fan.

11. An engine, comprising:

an air charger;

a radiator;

an intake manifold; and

a passive cooling system, comprising:

a fan configured to generate an air flow path through the radiator; and

a cooling pipe in communication with the air charger and the intake manifold, wherein the cooling pipe comprises a curved portion located within the air flow path, wherein the fan moves within a path including a first lateral edge and a second lateral edge, wherein the cooling pipe comprises an inlet positioned laterally outwardly with respect to the first lateral edge, an outlet positioned laterally with respect to the inlet, and a conduit intermediate the inlet and the outlet extending laterally relative to the first lateral edge toward the second lateral edge without extending back toward the first lateral edge.

12. The engine of claim 11 , wherein the conduit extends vertically below an axis of rotation of the fan.

13. The engine of claim 11 , wherein the conduit extends circumferentially around an axis of rotation of the fan.
