Abstract

The present application discloses an improved transportation matching system, and corresponding methods and computer-readable media. According to the disclosed embodiments, the transportation matching system utilizes an image-based transportation request interface and environmental digital image stream to efficiently generate transportation requests with accurate pickup locations. For instance, the disclosed system can utilize one or more environmental digital images provided from a requestor computing device (e.g., a mobile device or an augmented reality wearable device) to determine information such as the location of the requestor computing device and a transportation pickup location within the environmental digital images. Furthermore, the disclosed system can provide, for display on the requestor computing device, one or more augmented reality elements at the transportation pickup location within an environmental scene that includes the transportation pickup location.

Claims (44)

1. A computer-implemented method comprising:

capturing an environmental digital image stream utilizing a camera of a requestor computing device;

providing, for display via the requestor computing device, a first augmented reality element, overlayed within the environmental digital image stream, in relation to the first transportation pickup location and a second augmented reality element, overlayed within the environmental digital image stream, in relation to the second transportation pickup location; and

in response to detecting a user action via the requestor computing device, selecting the first transportation pickup location for the requestor computing device and a matched provider computing device.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising determining the first transportation pickup location and the second transportation pickup location for the requestor computing device based on a transportation request transmitted by the requestor computing device.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein providing the first augmented reality element comprises providing, for display via the requestor computing device, a first estimated time of arrival or a first transportation value corresponding to the first transportation pickup location in relation to the first augmented reality element.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 3 , wherein providing the second augmented reality element comprises providing, for display via the requestor computing device, a second estimated time of arrival or a second transportation value corresponding to the second transportation pickup location in relation to the second augmented reality element.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein providing the first augmented reality element comprises:

determining a comparison metric between the first transportation pickup location and the second transportation pickup location; and

providing, for display via the requestor computing device, the comparison metric in relation to the first augmented reality element.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising selecting the first transportation pickup location by analyzing environmental digital images from the environmental digital image stream.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising detecting the user action by detecting a gesture within the environmental digital image stream indicating the first transportation pickup location.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , further comprising detecting the user action by detecting movement of the requestor computing device along a path corresponding to the first transportation pickup location.

9. A system comprising:

at least one processor; and

at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to:

capture an environmental digital image stream utilizing a camera of a requestor computing device;

determine, utilizing the environmental digital image stream and a location of the requestor computing device, a first transportation pickup location and a second transportation pickup location for the requestor computing device;

provide, for display via the requestor computing device, a first augmented reality element, overlayed within the environmental digital image stream, in relation to the first transportation pickup location and a second augmented reality element, overlayed within the environmental digital image stream, in relation to the second transportation pickup location; and

in response to detecting a user action via the requestor computing device, select the first transportation pickup location for the requestor computing device and a matched provider computing device.

10. The system of claim 9 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to determine the first transportation pickup location and the second transportation pickup location for the requestor computing device based on a transportation request transmitted by the requestor computing device.

11. The system of claim 9 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to provide the first augmented reality element by providing, for display via the requestor computing device, a first estimated time of arrival or a first transportation value corresponding to the first transportation pickup location in relation to the first augmented reality element.

12. The system of claim 11 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to provide the second augmented reality element by providing, for display via the requestor computing device, a second estimated time of arrival or a second transportation value corresponding to the second transportation pickup location in relation to the second augmented reality element.

13. The system of claim 9 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to provide the first augmented reality element by:

determining a comparison metric between the first transportation pickup location and the second transportation pickup location; and

providing, for display via the requestor computing device, the comparison metric in relation to the first augmented reality element.

14. The system of claim 9 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the system to detect the user action by performing at least one of:

detecting a gesture within the environmental digital image stream indicating the first transportation pickup location; or

detecting movement of the requestor computing device along a path corresponding to the first transportation pickup location.

15. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by at least one processor, cause a computer system to:

capture an environmental digital image stream utilizing a camera of a requestor computing device;

determine, utilizing the environmental digital image stream and a location of the requestor computing device, a first transportation pickup location and a second transportation pickup location for the requestor computing device;

provide, for display via the requestor computing device, a first augmented reality element, overlayed within the environmental digital image stream, in relation to the first transportation pickup location and a second augmented reality element, overlayed within the environmental digital image stream, in relation to the second transportation pickup location; and

in response to detecting a user action via the requestor computing device, select the first transportation pickup location for the requestor computing device and a matched provider computing device.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 15 , further comprising instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the computer system to determine the first transportation pickup location and the second transportation pickup location for the requestor computing device based on a transportation request transmitted by the requestor computing device.
