Abstract

Disclosed systems may include: a processor; and non-transitory, tangible memory storing instructions thereon. The processor may be configured to execute the instructions to: generate a baggage information message including an International Air Transport Association (IATA) bag tag data that includes an IATA license plate number uniquely identifying a checked luggage item and a pseudo-ID that identifies a checked luggage item of a passenger to be screened by a security screening imaging machine. The processor may be configured to execute the at least one instruction to: match the IATA license plate number in the baggage information message to an IATA license plate number in a manifest to extract the pseudo-ID from the baggage information message; retrieve a security screening image using at least one of the extracted pseudo ID or the IATA license plate number; and provide the security screening image to a security screening workstation.

Claims (42)

1 . A method comprising:

scanning a checked luggage item by an X-ray or computed tomography imaging system to capture a security screening image of the checked luggage item, wherein the scanning is performed at a first location and according to a first security screening regulation;

generating, by a baggage handling system infrastructure, a baggage information message including an International Air Transport Association (IATA) bag tag data that includes an IATA license plate number uniquely identifying the checked luggage item and a pseudo ID, wherein the pseudo ID identifies the checked luggage item of a passenger screened by the X-ray or computed tomography imaging system and links the checked luggage item to the captured security screening image of the scanned checked luggage item;

communicating, by the baggage handling system infrastructure, the baggage information message to a network;

programming a computing device to access the network and process data associated with the a plurality of baggage information messages, the computing device being separate from the baggage handling system infrastructure;

authorizing the computing device to access the network;

receiving, by the computing device authorized to access the network, a plurality of baggage information messages, including the baggage information message from the network;

sorting the plurality of baggage information messages for subsequent security screening purposes at a second location based on a flight manifest;

matching, by the computing device, a first data field including the IATA license plate number in the received baggage information message to a second data field including an IATA license plate number in a baggage manifest to extract the pseudo ID from the received baggage information message that corresponds to the checked luggage item;

retrieving, by the computing device, the security screening image stored in a storage cloud system and created by the X-ray or computed tomography imaging system using at least one of: (a) the extracted pseudo ID or (b) the matched IATA license plate number; and

providing, by the computing device and after the security screening image is retrieved, information associated with the security screening image to a security screening workstation;

determining whether to clear the checked luggage item at the second location on the basis of the retrieved security screening image, the second location having a second security screening regulation;

approving the checked luggage item based on determining to clear the checked luggage item at the second location;

based on approving the checked luggage item, bypassing or expediting a subsequent security screening evaluation at a-the second location without requiring rescanning of the checked luggage item by another X-ray or computed tomography imaging system associated with the second location,

wherein requirements of the second security screening regulation are the same as, different, or lower than requirements of the first security screening regulation, and

wherein the checked luggage item remains within trusted custody at all times between the first location and the second location.

2 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising: retrieving a passenger name record (PNR) number from the baggage information message or a tracking device associated with the checked luggage item; and extracting a personal identifiable information of the passenger from a PNR database associated with a computing device of an airline carrier using the retrieved PNR number.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the personal identifiable information comprises at least one of: a birth date, a social security number, a driver's license number, a passport identifier, or a government-issued identification number of the passenger.

4 . A system comprising: a plurality of processors associated with at least one of: an airport computing infrastructure, airline computing infrastructure, or a baggage handling system infrastructure; and at least one non-transitory, tangible memory communicatively coupled to each processor of the plurality of processors, the at least one non-transitory, tangible memory storing at least one instruction, wherein the plurality of processors are configured to execute the respective at least one instruction to:

scan a checked luggage item by an X-ray or computed tomography imaging system to capture a security screening image of the checked luggage item, wherein the scanning is performed at a first location and according to a first security screening regulation;

generate, by a baggage handling system infrastructure, a baggage information message including an International Air Transport Association (IATA) bag tag data that includes an IATA license plate number uniquely identifying the checked luggage item and a pseudo ID, wherein the pseudo ID identifies the checked luggage item of a passenger screened by the X-ray or computed tomography imaging system and links the checked luggage item to the captured security screening image of the scanned checked luggage item;

communicate, by at least one processor of the plurality of processors, the baggage information message to a network;

a pre-programmed computing device comprising at least one processor and at least one on-transitory, tangible memory communicatively coupled to the at least one processor, the at least one memory storing at least one instruction configured to:

receive a plurality of baggage information messages, including the baggage information message, from the network;

sort the plurality of baggage information messages, for subsequent security screening purposes at a second location based on a flight manifest;

match a first data field including the IATA license plate number in the received baggage information message to a second data field including an IATA license plate number in a manifest to extract the pseudo-ID from the received baggage information message that corresponds to the checked luggage item;

retrieve the security screening image from the network, the security screening image being previously created by the X-ray or computed tomography imaging system using at least one of: (a) the extracted pseudo-ID or (b) the matched IATA license plate number; and

provide information associated with the security screening image to a security screening workstation for bypassing or expediting a subsequent security screening evaluation at a second location according to a second security screening regulation and on the basis of the security screening image created at the first location;

determine whether to clear the checked luggage item at a second location on the basis of the retrieved security screening image, the second location having a second security screening regulation,

approve the checked luggage item based on determining to clear the checked luggage item at the second location:

based on approving the checked luggage item, bypass or expedite a subsequent security screening evaluation at the second location without requiring rescanning of the checked luggage item by another X-ray or computed tomography imaging system associated with the second location,

wherein the pre-programmed computing device is separate of the airport computing infrastructure, the airline computing infrastructure, and the baggage handling system infrastructure and is pre-authorized to access the network; wherein the pre-programmed computing device is configured to access the network and process data associated with the baggage information message;

wherein requirements of the second security screening regulation are the same as, different, or lower than requirements of the first security screening regulation; and wherein the checked luggage item remains with trusted custody at all times between the first location and the second location.

5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the pre-programmed computing device is further configured to: retrieve a passenger name record (PNR) number from the message or a tracking device associated with the checked luggage item; and extract a personal identifiable information of the passenger from a PNR database associated with a computing device of an airline carrier using the retrieved PNR number.

6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the personal identifiable information comprises at least one of: a birth date, a social security number, a driver's license number, a passport identifier, or a government-issued identification number of the passenger.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second location is associated with a border crossing security screening check point.

8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the second location is associated with a different mode of travel than the first location.

9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first location and second location are different.

10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first security screening requirement regulation comprises at least one screening requirement utilizing an explosive detection system (EDS).

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the baggage information message is an expanded baggage processed message (BPM), or a baggage manifest message (BMM) or one of: a terminating or transfer baggage source message (BSM).

12 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the generated message is an expanded baggage processed message (BPM), or a baggage manifest message (BMM) or one of: a terminating or transfer baggage source message (BSM).

13 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the second location is associated with a border crossing security screening check point.
