Abstract

The present disclosure relates to cantilevered imaging modality wearable optical systems that provide for optimal ergonomics coupled with vision enhancement and vision magnification. Methods of use, devices, and kits are also contemplated.

Claims (23)

1 . A wearable optical system, comprising:

a user wearable frame adapted to be worn on a head of a user, wherein the user wearable frame comprises a spectacle frame;

a support attached to the user wearable frame;

a display attached to the user wearable frame positioned viewable by the user via a horizontal optical path extending away from the user when the user wearable frame is worn by the user; and

an imaging modality in optical communication with the display, the imaging modality attached to the user wearable frame, independently from the display and separately rotatable with respect to the support and separate from the display, by the support defining a work area optical path and positioned on the support a distance from a portion of the user wearable frame, wherein the work area optical path is provided at a working area angle toward a work area within a predetermined range of angles comprising an angular adjustment of up to 360 degrees perpendicular to a plane of the working area angle, and wherein the work area optical path defines a path between the imaging modality and the work area, wherein the imaging modality is weighted near a lens of the imaging modality to provide plumb-bob-like vertical orientation of the imaging modality in a given vertical angle relative to the horizontal optical path during movement of the user wearable frame in different orientations; and

wherein the display is configured to render images captured by the imaging modality.

2 . The wearable optical system of claim 1 , further comprising a power source secured with a backside of the user wearable frame, wherein the power source supplies power to the imaging modality and the display.

3 . The wearable optical system of claim 2 , wherein the power source is positioned to balance a weight of the imaging modality.

4 . A wearable optical system, comprising:

a user wearable frame adapted to be worn on a head of a user, wherein the user wearable frame comprises a spectacle frame;

a support attached to the user wearable frame;

a display attached to the user wearable frame positioned viewable by the user via a horizontal optical path extending away from the user when the user wearable frame is worn by the user; and

an imaging modality attached to the user wearable frame, independently from the display and separately rotatable with respect to the support and separate from the display, by the support defining a work area optical path in optical communication with the display and positioned on the support a distance from a portion of the user wearable frame, wherein the distance being measured from where a front of a forehead of the user would be when the system is donned to the distance measured horizontally between about 2 inches and 20 inches in front of the user, wherein the imaging modality is weighted near a lens of the imaging modality to provide plumb-bob-like vertical orientation of the imaging modality in a given vertical angle relative to the horizontal optical path during movement of the user wearable frame in different orientations;

wherein the work area optical path is provided at a working area angle of between 46° and 120° generally toward a work area and away from the horizontal optical path, wherein the work area optical path is adjustable within a predetermined range of angles, and wherein the work area optical path defines a path between the imaging modality and the work area, the path being between 12 to 60 inches in distance, and

wherein an image captured by the imaging modality is provided for viewing on the display.

5 . The wearable optical system of claim 1 , wherein the imaging modality is configured to provide 1.0× to 8.0× of magnification.

6 . The wearable optical system of claim 1 , wherein the imaging modality comprises a high-definition optical device configured to provide 10× to 400× of magnification.

7 . The wearable optical system of claim 1 , wherein the display is configured to be see-through during at least one of when displaying or not displaying the images captured by the imaging modality.

8 . The wearable optical system of claim 1 , wherein one or more functions of the system are controlled by a movement of an eye, an eyelid, or a part of an eye of the user.

9 . The wearable optical system of claim 4 , wherein the imaging modality is configured to provide 1.0× to 8.0× of magnification.

10 . The wearable optical system of claim 4 , wherein the imaging modality comprises a high-definition optical device configured to provide 10× to 400× of magnification.

11 . The wearable optical system of claim 4 , wherein the display is configured to be see-through during at least one of when displaying or not displaying images captured by the imaging modality.

12 . The wearable optical system of claim 4 , wherein one or more functions of the system are controlled by a movement of an eye, an eyelid, or a part of an eye of the user.
