Abstract

An electronic furniture assembly of the present invention comprises: (i) a furniture assembly comprising: (A) a base (e.g., a seat portion), (B) at least one transverse member (e.g., a side, armrest or backrest), and (C) a coupler for selectively coupling the base to the transverse member; (ii) an electrical hub for providing electrical power to the speakers, the hub configured to selectively reside within the furniture assembly; and (iii) a speaker system mounted within one or more portions of the furniture assembly. The speaker system comprises one or more speakers mounted within the base and transverse member, hiding the speakers therein, and saving space within a home or office, using the same footprint for both furniture and speakers, providing a high fidelity surround sound system.

Claims (66)

1 . An audio-enhanced furniture system, comprising:

an assemble-able modular furniture assembly having a base, the base comprising:

a frame, wherein the frame of the base has an enclosure that is at least partially covered by upholstery fabric; and

a plurality of foot members configured to support the base above a support surface; and

a speaker system positioned within a footprint of the assemble-able modular furniture assembly, the speaker system comprising a speaker embedded and concealed within the enclosure of the frame of the base underneath the upholstery fabric, so that the speaker system is hidden from view, and so that sound of the speaker resonates within the enclosure to improve sound quality of the speaker;

wherein the speaker is embedded and concealed within the enclosure of the frame of the base;

further comprising a transverse member and a coupler for selectively coupling the base to the transverse member;

wherein:

the transverse member has a second enclosure;

the speaker system further comprises a second speaker embedded and entirely concealed within the second enclosure of the transverse member, so that sound of the second speaker resonates within the second enclosure; and

the base and the transverse member can be selectively positioned in different locations with respect to each other, thereby selectively positioning the speaker system.

2 . The audio-enhanced furniture system of claim 1 , wherein the speaker embedded and concealed within the transverse member includes an upward facing speaker.

3 . The audio-enhanced furniture system of claim 1 , wherein the speaker embedded and concealed within the transverse member includes a front facing speaker.

4 . The audio-enhanced furniture system of claim 1 , wherein the speaker embedded and concealed within the transverse member includes a side facing speaker.

5 . The audio-enhanced furniture system of claim 1 , further comprising one or more lights on a bottom surface of the base.

6 . The audio-enhanced furniture system of claim 1 , further comprising an electrical hub.

7 . The audio-enhanced furniture system of claim 6 , wherein the electrical hub is configured to be selectively mounted within the furniture system.

8 . The audio-enhanced furniture system of claim 1 , wherein at least a portion of the speaker is positioned immediately underneath at least a portion of the upholstery fabric, so that the upholstery fabric extends over a driver of the speaker.

9 . The audio-enhanced furniture system of claim 1 , wherein the base provides a seating surface.

10 . An audio-enhanced furniture system, comprising:

(i) an assemble-able modular furniture assembly comprising:

(A) a base, the base comprising a box and a plurality of foot members configured to support the base above a support surface, the box including a frame, wherein the frame has a first enclosure that is at least partially covered by upholstery fabric;

(B) a cushion positioned on top of the base; and

(C) a transverse member selectively coupled to an outside surface of the base; and

(ii) a speaker system positioned within a footprint of the assemble-able modular furniture assembly, the speaker system comprising a first speaker embedded and concealed within the first enclosure of the frame of the base, beneath the upholstery fabric, so that the speaker system is hidden from view, and so that sound of the first speaker resonates within the first enclosure to improve sound quality of the first speaker;

wherein the first speaker is embedded and concealed within the first enclosure of the frame of the base;

further comprising a coupler for selectively coupling the base to the transverse member;

wherein:

the transverse member has a second enclosure;

the speaker system further comprises a second speaker embedded and entirely concealed within the second enclosure of the transverse member, so that sound of the second speaker resonates within the second enclosure; and

the base and the transverse member can be selectively positioned in different locations with respect to each other, thereby selectively positioning the speaker system.

11 . The audio-enhanced furniture system of claim 10 , the speaker system further comprising a third speaker embedded and concealed within the transverse member, wherein the second speaker and the third speaker are embedded and concealed within the second enclosure of the transverse member face different directions, each of the second speaker and the third speaker being one of an upward facing, a front facing, or a side facing direction.

12 . The audio-enhanced furniture system of claim 10 , wherein the first speaker embedded and concealed within the base is a subwoofer.

13 . The audio-enhanced furniture system of claim 12 , wherein the speaker system further comprises an amplifier mounted within the base.

14 . The audio-enhanced furniture system of claim 13 , wherein the speaker system further comprises a receiver.

15 . The audio-enhanced furniture system of claim 10 , wherein the base provides a seating surface.

16 . An audio-enhanced furniture assembly, comprising:

a base comprising a box and a plurality of foot members configured to support the base above a support surface, wherein the box includes a first frame, wherein the first frame has a first enclosure that is at least partially covered by a fabric cover;

a transverse member having a second frame, wherein the second frame of the transverse member has a second enclosure that is at least partially covered by a fabric cover, wherein the transverse member is positioned in an upright position relative to the base, so as to have a height that is greater than that provided by the base;

a cushion positioned on top of the base;

a coupler that selectively couples the transverse member to an outside surface of the base; and

a speaker system positioned within a footprint of the furniture assembly, the speaker system comprising:

a subwoofer embedded and concealed within the first enclosure of the first frame of the base, beneath the fabric cover of the base, so that sound of the subwoofer resonates within the first enclosure of the first frame of the box to improve sound quality of the subwoofer; and

a front facing speaker or a side facing speaker embedded and concealed within the second enclosure of the second frame of the transverse member, beneath the fabric cover of the transverse member, so that sound of the front facing speaker or the side facing speaker resonates within the second enclosure of the second frame of the transverse member to improve the sound quality of the front facing speaker or the side facing speaker, wherein the base and the transverse member can be selectively positioned in different locations with respect to each other, thereby selectively positioning the speaker system,

wherein the subwoofer is embedded and concealed within the first enclosure of the first frame of the box;

wherein the speaker system is hidden from view.

17 . The audio-enhanced furniture assembly of claim 16 , wherein the base provides a seating surface.

18 . An audio-enhanced furniture assembly, comprising:

a base comprising a box, the box having a first frame, the base being generally horizontal;

a transverse member having a second frame, wherein the second frame of the transverse member has an enclosure that is at least partially covered by a fabric cover, the transverse member being oriented transverse to the base, so as to be generally vertically upright;

a plurality of foot members configured to support the furniture assembly above a support surface;

a cushion positioned on top of the base;

a coupler that selectively couples the transverse member to an outside surface of the base; and

a speaker system positioned within a footprint of the furniture assembly, the speaker system comprising a subwoofer embedded and concealed within an enclosure of the first frame of the box, and a speaker embedded and concealed entirely within the enclosure of the second frame of the transverse member, beneath the fabric cover of the transverse member, so that sound of the speaker resonates within the enclosure of the second frame of the transverse member to improve a sound quality of the speaker,

wherein the subwoofer is embedded and concealed within the enclosure of the first frame of the box;

wherein the base and the transverse member can be selectively positioned in different locations with respect to each other, and wherein the speaker system is hidden from view.

19 . The audio-enhanced furniture assembly of claim 18 , wherein the base provides a seating surface.
