an ultraviolet (UV) light source in the chamber and comprising a plurality of UV light emitting diodes (LEDs) disposed within about 2 inches of the surface of the item and to shine UV light onto the surface of the item.

. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the contaminants include contagion.

. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the contagion includes saliva, bacteria, and/or viruses.

. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the contaminants include dirt.

. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the contaminants include oil.

. The apparatus of claim 5 , wherein the oil includes oil from skin.

. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the item is an electronic device.

. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising means for circulating air within the chamber.

. The apparatus of claim 1 further comprising a ventilation fan in operative communication with the UV light source and configured to cool down heat emitted by the UV LEDs.

. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the UV LEDs emit UV-C type light.

. An apparatus for removing contaminants from a surface of an item, the apparatus comprising:

a support component configured to support the item; and

a plurality of UV light emitting diodes (LEDs) disposed within about 2 inches of a surface of the item and configured to shine UV light onto the surface of the item.

. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the contaminants include contagion.

. The apparatus of claim 12 , wherein the contagion includes saliva, bacteria, and/or viruses.

. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the contaminants include dirt.

. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the contaminants include oil.

. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the oil includes oil from skin.

. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the item is an electronic device.

. The apparatus of claim 11 further comprising means for circulating air within the apparatus.

. The apparatus of claim 11 further comprising a ventilation fan in operative communication with the plurality of UV LEDs and configured to cool down heat emitted by the UV LEDs.

. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the UV LEDs emit UV-C type light.
