Abstract

Example methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture to implement an addressable measurement framework are disclosed. Example apparatus disclosed herein perform a common homes analysis of provider data and panel data to determine a coverage footprint associated with the provider data, the provider data including at least one of return path data reported by a plurality of set-top boxes or automatic content recognition data reported by a plurality of smart media devices, and the panel data reported by media device meters. Disclosed example apparatus also weight a portion of the provider data based on the common homes analysis, weight a portion of the panel data based on the common homes analysis, and calculate an addressable advertisement rating based on the weighted portion of the provider data and the weighted portion of the panel data.

Claims (65)

1. A system comprising:

a processor; and

a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium, having stored thereon program instructions that, upon execution by the processor, cause performance of operations comprising:

performing a comparison of provider data and panel data to determine a coverage footprint associated with the provider data, the provider data including at least one of return path data or automatic content recognition data reported by media devices, the panel data reported by media device meters;

weighting a portion of the provider data to determine a weighted portion of the provider data to represent a first portion of the coverage footprint;

weighting a portion of the panel data to determine a weighted portion of the panel data to represent a second portion of the coverage footprint; and

outputting an advertisement rating based on the weighted portion of the provider data and the weighted portion of the panel data.

2. The system of claim 1 , the operations further comprising:

performing de-duplication to remove duplicate records among the panel data and the provider data.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the duplicate records comprise one or more of:

first records associated with households for which one or more media devices are represented in both the provider data and the panel data,

second records associated with households for which two or more media devices are connected to each other and represented in the provider data, or

third records associated with households for which two or more media devices having the same type and different manufacturers are represented in the provider data.

4. The system of claim 1 , the operations further comprising:

controlling at least one of selection or delivery of advertisements to one or more target devices based on the advertisement rating.

5. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a network interface,

wherein outputting the advertisement rating comprises transmitting, via the network interface and to one or more recipient computing devices, a report comprising the advertisement rating.

6. The system of claim 1 , further comprising:

a network interface,

wherein the operations further comprise:

accessing, via the network interface, the provider data from one or more data provider computing systems to which the media devices report the at least one of the return path data or the automatic content recognition data; and

accessing, via the network interface, the panel data from the media device meters, the media device meters configured to monitor media presented at panelist households.

7. The system of claim 1 , the operations further comprising:

identifying advertisement impressions represented in the provider data; and

calculating, based on the weighted portion of the provider data and the weighted portion of the panel data, the advertisement rating to represent audience exposure to the advertisement impressions.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein:

the first portion of the coverage footprint is associated with first ones of the media devices that include functionality for reporting return path data, and

the second portion of the coverage footprint is associated with second ones of the media devices that do not include functionality for reporting return path data.

9. The system of claim 1 , wherein:

the first portion of the coverage footprint is associated with first ones of the media devices that are at least one of: connected to a network, opted in to have automatic content recognition data collected and reported to media device manufacturers of the first ones of the media devices, or not associated with a media device manufacturer that does not collect or share automatic content recognition data for media presented using a particular one or more native streaming media applications installed on the first ones of the media devices, and

the second portion of the coverage footprint is associated with second ones of the media devices that are at least one of: not connected to a network, not opted in to have automatic content recognition data collected and reported to media device manufacturers of the second ones of the media devices, or associated with a media device manufacturer that does not collect or share automatic content recognition data for media presented using a particular one or more native streaming media applications installed on the second ones of the media devices.

10. The system of claim 1 , the operations further comprising:

evaluating the provider data to identify a subset of the media devices associated with media device manufacturers that do not collect or share automatic content recognition data for media presented using a particular one or more native streaming media applications installed on the subset of the media devices; and

before weighting the provider data, removing a portion of the provider data corresponding to the subset of the media devices.

11. A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium, having stored thereon program instructions that, upon execution by a processor, cause performance of operations comprising:

performing a comparison of provider data and panel data to determine a coverage footprint associated with the provider data, the provider data including at least one of return path data or automatic content recognition data reported by media devices, the panel data reported by media device meters;

weighting a portion of the provider data to determine a weighted portion of the provider data to represent a first portion of the coverage footprint;

weighting a portion of the panel data to determine a weighted portion of the panel data to represent a second portion of the coverage footprint; and

outputting an advertisement rating based on the weighted portion of the provider data and the weighted portion of the panel data.

12. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , the operations further comprising:

performing de-duplication to remove duplicate records among the panel data and the provider data.

13. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , the operations further comprising:

controlling at least one of selection or delivery of advertisements to one or more target devices based on the advertisement rating.

14. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein outputting the advertisement rating comprises transmitting, via a network interface and to one or more recipient computing devices, a report comprising the advertisement rating.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , the operations further comprising:

accessing, via a network interface, the provider data from one or more data provider computing systems to which the media devices report the at least one of the return path data or the automatic content recognition data; and

accessing, via the network interface, the panel data from the media device meters, the media device meters configured to monitor media presented at panelist households.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , the operations further comprising:

identifying advertisement impressions represented in the provider data; and

calculating, based on the weighted portion of the provider data and the weighted portion of the panel data, the advertisement rating to represent audience exposure to the advertisement impressions.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , the operations further comprising:

evaluating the provider data to identify a subset of the media devices associated with media device manufacturers that do not collect or share automatic content recognition data for media presented using a particular one or more native streaming media applications installed on the subset of the media devices; and

before weighting the provider data, removing a portion of the provider data corresponding to the subset of the media devices.

18. A method performed by a computing system comprising a processor, the method comprising:

performing a comparison of provider data and panel data to determine a coverage footprint associated with the provider data, the provider data including at least one of return path data or automatic content recognition data reported by media devices, the panel data reported by media device meters;
