Abstract

A system is provided for client-side dynamic presentation of programming content in indexed disparate live media output stream. In response to a client request, an updated playback position is presented in at least one of an altered first disparate live media output stream or a generated second disparate live media output stream at a client interface based on an insertion of manifest data and indexed metadata associated with a program identifier. The program identifier is associated with a programming content and is referenced in a published first programming schedule with respect to a playback position in the published first programming schedule. The published first programming schedule comprises a functionality enabled via constraints and rights associated with an indexed first disparate live media output stream.

Claims (40)

1 . A system comprising memory and one or more processors communicatively coupled to the memory, the one or more processors configured to cause the system to:

receive, during playback of a first media output stream via a first client device associated with a user identifier, a playback position indication for restarting programming content, dynamically generated based on a user input, wherein the first media output stream is associated with a programming schedule;

determine, based at least in part on constraints and rights in the programming schedule, that a functionality associated with the first media output stream and for restarting programming content is enabled;

based at least in part on the playback position indication and the determination that the functionality is enabled, capture a stream identifier of the first media output stream and a timing metadata associated with the playback position indication, wherein the stream identifier is associated with the programming schedule; and

insert, based on the stream identifier, the timing metadata associated with the playback position indication into a manifest associated with the first media output stream, wherein the manifest is accessible via at least one of the first client device or a second client device associated with the user identifier and enables restarting programming content based on a second user input and the timing metadata associated with the playback position indication.

2 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the first media output stream comprises one or more of programming content, targeted non-programming content, an encoded live input stream, or a pre-encoded media asset.

3 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to cause the system to:

enable a seeking option within at least one of the programming schedule that comprises at least one of a forward seeking option or a backwards seeking option.

4 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to cause the system to:

enable a time-shift option within at least one of the programming schedule.

5 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to cause the system to:

validate against the programming schedule to determine whether the first media output stream is eligible for playback at a requested time restart.

6 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the first media output stream comprising the timing metadata associated with the playback position indication is further accessible via the second client device associated with the user identifier.

7 . A computer-implemented method comprising:

receiving, during playback of a first media output stream via a first client device associated with a user identifier, a playback position indication for restarting programming content dynamically generated based on a user input, wherein the first media output stream is associated with a programming schedule;

determine, based at least in part on constraints and rights in the programming schedule, that a functionality associated with the first media output stream and for restarting programming content is enabled;

based at least in part on the playback position indication and the determination that the functionality is enabled, capturing a stream identifier of the first media output stream and a timing metadata associated with the playback position indication, wherein the stream identifier is associated with the programming schedule; and

insert, based on the stream identifier, the timing metadata associated with the playback position indication into a manifest associated with the first media output stream, wherein the manifest is accessible via at least one of the first client device or a second client device associated with the user identifier and enables restarting programming content based on a second user input and the timing metadata associated with the playback position indication.

8 . The computer-implemented method according to claim 7 , further comprising:

determining, based at least in part on constraints and rights associated with the first media output stream, whether the first media output stream is alterable.

9 . The computer-implemented method according to claim 8 , wherein the programming schedule comprises a first functionality enabled via access constraints and rights, wherein the first functionality comprises restarting programming content.

10 . The computer-implemented method according to claim 7 , wherein the first media output stream comprises one or more of programming content, targeted non-programming content, an encoded live input stream, or a pre-encoded media asset.

11 . The computer-implemented method according to claim 7 , further comprising:

enabling a seeking option within the programming schedule, wherein the seeking option comprises at least one of a forward seeking option or a backwards seeking option.

12 . The computer-implemented method according to claim 7 , further comprising:

enabling a time-shift option within the programming schedule.

13 . The computer-implemented method according to claim 7 , further comprising:

validating against the programming schedule to determine whether the first media output stream is eligible for playback at a requested time restart.

14 . The computer-implemented method according to claim 7 , wherein the first media output stream comprising the timing metadata associated with the playback position indication is further accessible via the second client device associated with the user identifier.

15 . A computer program product comprising at least one non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having computer-executable program code instructions stored therein, the computer-executable program code instructions comprising program code instructions to:

receive, during playback of a first media output stream via a first client device associated with a user identifier, a playback position indication for restarting programming content, dynamically generated based on a user input, wherein the first media output stream is associated with a programming schedule;

determine, based at least in part on constraints and rights in the programming schedule, that a functionality associated with the first media output stream and for restarting programming content is enabled;

based at least in part on the playback position indication and the determination that the functionality is enabled, capture a stream identifier of the first media output stream and a timing metadata associated with the playback position indication, wherein the stream identifier is associated with the programming schedule; and

insert, based on the stream identifier, the timing metadata associated with the playback position indication into a manifest associated with the first media output stream, wherein the manifest is accessible via at least one of the first client device or a second client device associated with the user identifier and enables restarting programming content based on a second user input and the timing metadata associated with the playback position indication.

16 . The computer program product according to claim 15 , wherein the computer-executable program code instructions further comprise program code instructions to:

determine, based at least in part on constraints and rights associated with the first media output stream, whether the first media output stream is alterable.

17 . The computer program product according to claim 16 , wherein the programming schedule comprises a first functionality enabled via access constraints and rights, wherein the first functionality comprises restarting programming content.

18 . The computer program product according to claim 15 , wherein the first media output stream comprises one or more of programming content, targeted non-programming content, an encoded live input stream, or a pre-encoded media asset.

19 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the programming schedule indicates a first time-range, during which the user input is received, and wherein the second user input is received during a different time-range than the first time-range.

20 . The system according to claim 1 , wherein the playback position indication indicates a position at which to restart programming content in the future.
