ROLLOVER-SAFE ELECTROLYSIS UNIT FOR VEHICLES
Safety of vehicles employing an electrolysis generator is improved by a rollover abatement system.
1 . A method comprising:
generating, by an HHO generator that includes a first chamber and a second chamber, HHO gas by performing, using an electrolysis cell, electrolysis of an aqueous electrolyte solution in the first chamber that is configured to maintain an immersion of the electrolysis cell within the aqueous electrolyte solution throughout any orientation of the HHO generator;
storing, by the HHO generator, the HHO gas in the second chamber; and
providing, by the HHO generator, the HHO gas to a diesel particulate filter (DPF) regenerator system or an internal combustion engine.
2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the internal combustion engine is on a vehicle and the electrolysis is performed on the vehicle.
3 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the internal combustion engine is a generator set engine and the DPF regenerator system is adapted for use with the generator set engine.
4 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the fuel economy of the internal combustion engine is increased by at least 5% relative to the fuel economy while combusting without HHO gas present.
5 . The method of claim 1 , wherein engine-out emissions of the internal combustion engine are reduced by at least 10% relative to engine-out emissions while combusting without HHO gas present.
6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the electrolysis comprises electrolyzing the aqueous electrolyte solution at a current draw in the range of 5-15 amps.
7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the aqueous electrolyte solution comprises less than 3 wt. % of any salt.
8 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the electrolyzing has an electrical resistance of less than 3 ohm.
9 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the electrolyzing comprises electrolysis in the range of 4-10 ounces of the aqueous electrolyte solution per liter displacement of the internal combustion engine per 10,000 miles traveling distance of a vehicle that includes the internal combustion engine.
10 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the internal combustion engine is a gasoline engine.
11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the internal combustion engine is a diesel engine.
12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the internal combustion engine has a displacement in the range of 11-16 liters.
13 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the internal combustion engine is sized to produce in the range of 200-250 horsepower.
14 . An HHO generator comprising:
a first chamber;
an electrolysis cell that is located in the first chamber and that is configured to generate HHO gas by performing electrolysis of an aqueous electrolyte solution; and
a second chamber that is configured to store the HHO gas and that is configured to provide the HHO gas to a diesel particulate filter (DPF) regenerator system or an internal combustion engine,
wherein the first chamber is configured to maintain an immersion of the electrolysis cell within the aqueous electrolyte solution throughout any orientation of the HHO generator.
15 . The HHO generator of claim 14 , wherein the internal combustion engine is on a vehicle and the electrolysis is performed on the vehicle.
16 . The HHO generator of claim 14 , wherein the internal combustion engine is a generator set engine and the DPF regenerator system is adapted for use with the generator set engine.
17 . The HHO generator of claim 14 , wherein the fuel economy of the internal combustion engine is increased by at least 5% relative to the fuel economy while combusting without HHO gas present.
18 . The HHO generator of claim 14 , wherein engine-out emissions of the internal combustion engine are reduced by at least 10% relative to engine-out emissions while combusting without HHO gas present.
19 . The HHO generator of claim 14 , wherein the electrolysis comprises electrolyzing the aqueous electrolyte solution at a current draw in the range of 5-15 amps.
20 . The HHO generator of claim 14 , wherein the aqueous electrolyte solution comprises less than 3 wt. % of any salt.
