Abstract

A method for preventing digital content misuse can include detecting, by a client-side computing device, that the client-side computing device is paired to a viewing device such that, after being paired, the client-side computing device can cause digital content received from a remote server to be presented on a display of the viewing device; after detecting that the client-side computing device is paired to the viewing device, detecting, by the client-side computing device, that the client-side computing device has been unpaired from the viewing device; and in response to detecting that the client-side computing device has been unpaired from the viewing device, executing a remedial action.

Claims (28)

1 . A system for controlling access to digital credentials, the system comprising:

a server configured to: receive a request for a digital credential assigned to a user account, the digital credential providing access to digital content;

determine whether one or more access conditions are satisfied, the one or more access conditions comprising a user proximity to an authorized location for the digital content; and transmit the digital credential in response to determining the one or more access conditions are satisfied; and

a monitoring module configured to: detect attempts to reuse transmitted digital credentials; and initiate a remedial action in response to detecting an attempt to reuse a transmitted digital credential.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more access conditions further comprise the request originating from an authorized client device associated with the user account.

3 . The system of claim 1 , wherein determining whether the user proximity access condition is satisfied comprises determining a geographic distance between a source location of the request and the authorized location.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the remedial action comprises disabling access to digital credentials for a user account associated with a detected attempt to reuse a transmitted digital credential.

5 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the transmitted digital credential comprises an animated graphic to prevent static screenshots of the digital credential from granting access rights.

6 . A method for controlling access to digital credentials, the method comprising:

receiving, at a server, a request for a digital credential assigned to a user account, the digital credential providing access to digital content;

determining whether one or more access conditions are satisfied, the one or more access conditions comprising a user proximity to an authorized location for the digital content;

transmitting the digital credential in response to determining the one or more access conditions are satisfied;

detecting attempts to reuse transmitted digital credentials; and

initiating a remedial action in response to detecting an attempt to reuse a transmitted digital credential.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the one or more access conditions further comprise the request originating from an authorized client device associated with the user account.

8 . The method of claim 6 , wherein determining whether the user proximity access condition is satisfied comprises determining a geographic distance between a source location of the request and the authorized location.

9 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the remedial action comprises disabling access to digital credentials for a user account associated with a detected attempt to reuse a transmitted digital credential.

10 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the transmitted digital credential comprises an animated graphic to prevent static screenshots of the digital credential from granting access rights.

11 . A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium, the computer-readable storage medium including instructions that when executed by a computer, cause the computer to:

receive, at a server, a request for a digital credential assigned to a user account, the digital credential providing access to digital content;

determine whether one or more access conditions are satisfied, the one or more access conditions comprising a user proximity to an authorized location for the digital content;

transmit the digital credential in response to determining the one or more access conditions are satisfied;

detect attempts to reuse transmitted digital credentials; and

initiate a remedial action in response to detecting an attempt to reuse a transmitted digital credential.

12 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the one or more access conditions further comprise the request originate from an authorized client device associated with the user account.

13 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein determine whether the user proximity access condition is satisfied comprises determining a geographic distance between a source location of the request and the authorized location.

14 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the remedial action comprises disable access to digital credentials for a user account associated with a detected attempt to reuse a transmitted digital credential.

15 . The computer-readable storage medium of claim 11 , wherein the transmitted digital credential comprises an animated graphic to prevent static screenshots of the digital credential from granting access rights.
