Abstract

A graphics verification system that handles content of a channel in a broadcast chain, partitions an on-screen view of the channel into a plurality of sections based on an overlay of a plurality of graphics on the on-screen view of the channel. The content may comprise media content and may include video, audio and/or ancillary data that is associated with any portion of a particular content. A placement of each of the overlaid plurality of graphics in the plurality of sections is determined with respect to associated content on the on-screen view of the channel. The placement is determined based on a concurrent look-up of the overlaid plurality of graphics in the plurality of sections and the associated content. The concurrent look-up is based on fingerprints or watermarks of the plurality of graphics and the associated content. One or more error parameters are detected based on the determined placement. The on-screen view of the channel is calibrated prior to multicasting of the channel, based on the one or more detected error parameters.

Claims (38)

1 . A system comprising memory and one or more processors communicatively coupled to the memory, the one or more processors configured to:

receive a detected graphics fingerprint for an overlaid graphic on an on-screen view of a channel, wherein the detected graphics fingerprint is indicative of a placement of the overlaid graphic with respect to associated content on the on-screen view of the channel;

identify, using the detected graphics fingerprint, a graphics identifier corresponding to the overlaid graphic, wherein the graphics identifier is associated with a time-based parameter or a region-based parameter corresponding to a programming schedule;

detect an error parameter for the overlaid graphic based on a comparison between (i) the placement of the overlaid graphic with respect to the associated content on the on-screen view of the channel and (ii) the time-based parameter or the region-based parameter corresponding to a programming schedule, wherein the error parameter is detected based on a mismatch in the detected graphics fingerprint and a raster fingerprint associated with the on-screen view; and

replace the overlaid graphic with a correct graphic based on the error parameter and the programming schedule.

2 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the on-screen view of the channel is partitioned into a plurality of sections based on a plurality of graphic overlays and the detected graphics fingerprint corresponds to a section of the plurality of sections.

3 . The system of claim 2 , wherein the time-based parameter or the region-based parameter corresponds to the section.

4 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the detected graphics fingerprint is received from an inline-monitoring device comprises positioned before a trigger insertion system of a broadcast chain system.

5 . The system of claim 4 , wherein the one or more processors are further configured to:

receive, from a subsequent inline-monitoring device, a subsequent detected graphics fingerprint; and

verify the correct graphic of the on-screen view of the channel with the subsequent detected graphics fingerprint.

6 . The system of claim 5 , wherein the subsequent inline-monitoring device is positioned after the trigger insertion system of the broadcast chain system.

7 . The system of claim 1 , wherein the error parameter is indicative of a mismatch in (i) the placement of the overlaid graphic with respect to associated content on the on-screen view of the channel and (ii) a position indicated by the time-based parameter or the region-based parameter corresponding to the programming schedule.

8 . The system of claim 7 , wherein replacing the overlaid graphic with the correct graphic based on the error parameter and the programming schedule comprises:

repositioning the overlaid graphic at the position indicated by the time-based parameter or the region-based parameter corresponding to the programming schedule.

9 . The system of claim 1 , the overlaid graphic comprises a channel logo, a sign, a symbol, a text placeholder, full screen graphics, partial screen graphics, a rating key, or a ticker.

10 . A computer-implemented method, comprising:

receiving a detected graphics fingerprint for an overlaid graphic on an on-screen view of a channel, wherein the detected graphics fingerprint is indicative of a placement of the overlaid graphic with respect to associated content on the on-screen view of the channel;

identifying, using the detected graphics fingerprint, a graphics identifier corresponding to the overlaid graphic, wherein the graphics identifier is associated with a time-based parameter or a region-based parameter corresponding to a programming schedule;

detecting an error parameter for the overlaid graphic based on a comparison between (i) the placement of the overlaid graphic with respect to associated content on the on-screen view of the channel and (ii) the time-based parameter or the region-based parameter corresponding to a programming schedule, wherein the error parameter is detected based on a mismatch in the detected graphics fingerprint and a raster fingerprint associated with the on-screen view; and

replacing the overlaid graphic with a correct graphic based on the error parameter and the programming schedule.

11 . The computer-implemented method of claim 10 , wherein the on-screen view of the channel is partitioned into a plurality of sections based on a plurality of graphic overlays and the detected graphics fingerprint corresponds to a section of the plurality of sections.

12 . The computer-implemented method of claim 11 , wherein the time-based parameter or the region-based parameter corresponds to the section.

13 . The computer-implemented method of claim 10 , wherein the detected graphics fingerprint is received from an inline-monitoring device comprises positioned before a trigger insertion system of a broadcast chain system.

14 . The computer-implemented method of claim 13 , further comprising:

receiving, from a subsequent inline-monitoring device, a subsequent detected graphics fingerprint; and

verifying the correct graphic of the on-screen view of the channel with the subsequent detected graphics fingerprint.

15 . The computer-implemented method of claim 14 , wherein the subsequent inline-monitoring device is positioned after the trigger insertion system of the broadcast chain system.

16 . The computer-implemented method of claim 10 , wherein the error parameter is indicative of a mismatch in (i) the placement of the overlaid graphic with respect to associated content on the on-screen view of the channel and (ii) a position indicated by the time-based parameter or the region-based parameter corresponding to the programming schedule.

17 . The computer-implemented method of claim 16 , wherein replacing the overlaid graphic with the correct graphic based on the error parameter and the programming schedule comprises:

repositioning the overlaid graphic at the position indicated by the time-based parameter or the region-based parameter corresponding to the programming schedule.

18 . The computer-implemented method of claim 10 , the overlaid graphic comprises a channel logo, a sign, a symbol, a text placeholder, full screen graphics, partial screen graphics, a rating key, or a ticker.

19 . A computer program product including one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media including instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to:
